HOWARD A. 'CHICK' GRIMM
CUMBERLAND - Howard A. 'Chick' Grimm, 86, of First Street, Cumberland, died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 23, 1913, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Howard A. and Elizabeth (Reed) Grimm. He also was preceded in death by one son, Floyd A. Grimm; one granddaughter, Brenda Lee Grimm Anthony; and three sisters.
Mr. Grimm was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, and he was retired from the Celanese Corporation, Cumberland. He was a member of the Potomac Lodge #100 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Bodies, Ali Ghan Shrine Temple, Cumberland, and a life member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Lee Harper Grimm; one daughter, Donna Rae Grimm Crosten and husband, Leonard, Cumberland; one son, James R. Grimm and wife, Rebecca, Cumberland; a daughter-in-law, Donna L. Grimm, Cumberland; three sisters, Mary House and husband, Willard, Mabel Bowman, Dorothy Singleton and husband, Benjamin, all of Cumberland; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a Masonic Service conducted Thursday at 7:30 p.m. by the Potomac Lodge at the funeral home.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Jewell officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Cumberland Crippled Children's League or to the American Cancer Society.
MARY M. GROWDEN
CUMBERLAND - Mary Myrtle Growden, 86, of Cumberland Nursing Home, formerly of Booth Towers and Centerville, Pa., died Thursday, Sept. 9, 1999, at the nursing home.
Born June 11, 1913, in Davis, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William S. and Gertrude E. (Weimer) Cooper. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, Melvin W. Growden; her second husband, Edgar C. Nazelrod; one sister, Nellie M. Alt; and three brothers, Oscar W. Cooper, Sr., Earl R. Cooper, and Chester C. Cooper.
Mrs. Growden was retired from Watson Insurance and Real Estate Office, Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, and she had previously been employed in the reservation office in Bedford Springs Hotel. She was a greeter for "Meals on Wheels" and a volunteer at Memorial Hospital. She was a graduate of Aurora High School, Aurora, W.Va., and Zeths Business School, Altoona, Pa. She was a member of the Livingstone Church of the Brethren, Cumberland, having served on the Commissions and Board, the Cradle Roll and the women's fellowship. She also served on the Social Committee of the Tenants Association at Booth Towers.
Surviving are four nieces, Helen Lepard, Painsville, Ohio, Patricia Gopshe, Novelty, Ohio, Dr. Corliss Mick, Ph.D., Warren, Minn., and Peggy Castle, Friendswood, Texas; two nephews, Rev. Dr. William Cooper, Jr., Loveland, Colo., and Dr. Terrance Cooper, Ph.D.., Memphis, Tenn.; nine great-nephews; and eight great-nieces.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Livingstone Church of the Brethren, Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Timothy L. Monn officiating. Friends will also be received at the church one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in Fellowship Cemetery, Centerville, Pa.
SUSANNAH P. DUNCAN
LONACONING - Susannah Pauline (Frye) Duncan, 80, of 7177 Balboa Drive, Orlando, Fla., formerly of Lonaconing, died Jan. 31, 1999, at Health Central, Ocoee, Fla.
Born March 5, 1918, in Lonaconing, she was a daughter of the late Elias Frye and Priscilla (Knippenberg) Frye. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey Frye and William Frye.
Mrs. Duncan was Lutheran by faith, and was a member of Jephthah #106, Order of the Eastern Star, Baltimore, and Adhelia Temple, Daughters of the Nile, Orlando.
Surviving are her husband, Freeman Duncan; two daughters, Dianne Klingensmith, Apache Junction, Ariz., and Carolyn O'Leary, Midland, Ga.; and one sister, Jennie Lee Thomas and husband, Ken, Orlando; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at Frostburg Memorial Park, Frostburg, on Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Mortimore officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in her memory be made to Camel Herders of the Bahia Shrine, c/o Bahia Shrine Temple, 2300 Pembrook Drive, Orlando, FL 32810-2649.

ALBERT L. FISHER
CUMBERLAND - Albert L. Fisher, 80, of Cumberland, died Monday, May 31, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born June 16, 1918, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Arthur and Lela (Twigg) Fisher. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Maryland (Mellon) Fisher; and two brothers, Charles and Arthur Fisher.
Mr. Fisher was a brakeman for the CSX Transportation Corp. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, B.P.O. Elks Lodge #63 where he served as a Past Exalted Ruler and received Elk of the Year, and the Cumberland Auxiliary Police Force. He also was an avid golfer.
Surviving are a very special friend, Frances J. "Sis"(Cunningham) Swartley; three daughters, Bonnie L. Smith and husband Rodney, Cayce, S.C., Catherine "Kitty"McKenzie and husband Ronald, Cumberland, and Delana "Pudge"Hampson and Arthur Witt, Cresaptown; five grandchildren, Ronald E. McKenzie Jr. and wife Tina, Martinsburg, W.Va., Brent A. Hampson, Cumberland, Rhonda L. Smith, Cayce, S.C., Tina M. Brazell and husband Dan, Cayce, S.C., and Maryland V. Butler and husband Jerry, Cayce, S.C.; seven great-grandchildren, Tarynee A. McKenzie, Brianne McKenzie, Allison Brower, Derrick Brower, Victoria Brazell, Brandon Brazell and Jonathan Brazell; two brothers, Donald F. Fisher and wife JoAnn, Cumberland, and Howard W. Fisher and wife Virginia, Cumberland; and one sister, Rayetta Coleman and husband Ronald, Hagerstown.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a Christian Wake service conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., and the B.P.O. Elks will conduct a service on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Mary's Catholic Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Father Thomas R. Bevan as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
VIRGINIA L. DUNCAN
CUMBERLAND - Funeral services for Virginia Lee Duncan will be conducted at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Saturday at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Lance Corporal Benjamin Duncan and Andrew Duncan, and nephews, Dan Webster, Danny Webster, Jim Kreiger and Fred Kreiger.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the American Heart Association.
VIRGINIA L. DUNCAN
CUMBERLAND - Virginia Lee Duncan, 78, formerly of Lexington Avenue, Cumberland, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Sept. 16, 1920, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late William and Cecelia (Davis) Kreiger. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Roy M. Duncan, in 1981; and one brother, Robert N. Kreiger.
Mrs. Duncan was a retired co-owner of Duncan Cycle Shop. She was a very active member of the Cumberland Senior Citizen Association and served as its treasurer and member of the board of directors for many years.
Surviving are two sons, William M. Duncan and wife Carolyn, Coffman Cove, Alaska, and David R. Duncan and wife Sandy, with whom she resided in Cresaptown; one sister, Betty J. Webster and husband Francis "Webby," Cumberland; one brother, Frederick D. Kreiger and wife Oleta, Cresaptown; one sister-in-law, Clara B. Kreiger, Cumberland; two grandsons, Lance Corporal Benjamin W. Duncan, USMC, Cherry Point, N.C., and Andrew R. Duncan, Richmond, Va.; and a special daughter, Norma June Free, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark C. Dill officiating.

ELSIE VIRGINIA DURST
FROSTBURG - Elsie Virginia Durst, 92, of 100 Honeysuckle Lane, Frostburg, died Tuesday, June 22, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Aug. 2, 1906, in Humbert, Pa., she was a daughter of the late James and Lillie (Hinebaugh) Boyer. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Russell Durst, Jan. 3, 1972, and Sherman Durst, July 3, 1992; also a son, C. Frank Durst; a step-son, Floyd Durst; two sisters, Pearl Reeves and Nell Shelley; and two brothers, Robert and Oliver Boyer.
Mrs. Durst was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fort Hill, Pa. She also attended Midland Methodist Church and was a member of the WSCS. She was a member of Myrtle Temple #3, Pythian Sisters, Midland, for over 50 years, and held numerous offices in the temple. She was also a member of Midland Homemakers Club.
She is survived by two sons, James Durst, Seminole, Fla., Jack Durst, Mentor, Ohio; a step-son, Roy Durst, Midland; two daughters, Beulah Kaucic, Euclid, Ohio, Charlotte Cornelius, Chardon, Ohio; a step-daughter, Margaret Fisher, Midland; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Myrtle Temple #3, Pythian Sisters will hold a memorial service Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Durst Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Triebe officiating.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.
