RAYMOND H. FANNING
DETOUR - Raymond Herbert Fanning, 68, of 7571 Middleburg Road, Detour, died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at his residence.
Born April 19, 1930, in LuBec, Maine, he was a son of the late Louis Balch and Velda Lee (Reynolds) Fanning.
Mr. Fanning owned and operated Ray's Auto Parts in Detour. He was a member of AMVETS Post 7, Thurmont, and was Inspector General; life member of Blue Ridge Sportsmen's Association, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.; member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 271, Cumberland, Fraternal Order of Eagles 2226, Littlestown, Pa., B.P.O. Elks U.S.A., and the V.F.W. He was a stock car driver and an avid Nascar fan. He served in the U.S. Army from April 5, 1956, to Aug. 23, 1956, as a private.
He is survived by two daughters, Velda Sturdibant of Salem, Ala., and Carol Ann Hogan of Portland, Maine; two sons, Larry Ray Reed and Ridge Andrew Fanning, both of Taneytown; eight grandchildren; and many close friends.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Dottie Hamer.
Mr. Fanning is at the Thurmont Funeral Home of Robert E. Dailey and Son, 615 E. Main St., where friends may call on Sunday, March 14, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will begin at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Hammond officiating.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Fanning's name to the American Cancer Society, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
JESSIE M. FULK
FREDERICK - Jessie M. Fulk, 95, of Cambridge Drive, Frederick, formerly of Oakland, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, at the Citizen's Nursing Home, Frederick.
Born on Dec. 19, 1903 in Oakland, she was the daughter of the late W. George and Virginia E. (Buncutter) Sanders. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence W. "Bum" Fulk in 1961; two sons, William K. Fulk, and Thomas G. Fulk; four sisters, one brother and three grandchildren.
She was a member of the Oakland Church of Christ.
She is survived by one daughter, Nellie L. Graham and husband Howard, Frederick; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and one great great grandson.
Services will be held at the Gortner Union Church on Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. George G. Earle, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Gortner Cemetery.
The Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
LORRAINE DOLORES FARNSWORTH
CUMBERLAND - Lorraine Dolores Farnsworth, 78, of Broadway Street, Cumberland, formerly of Woodbine and Baltimore, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at the Cumberland Nursing Home, Cumberland.
Born May 8, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., she was a daughter of the late John and Margaret Eleanor (Kledzik) Farnsworth.
Miss Farnsworth is survived by a half-sister, Arden Switzer, Boulder, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Viona J. Farnsworth, Williamsburg, Va.; a brother-in-law, Royal E. Goodman, Baltimore; three nieces; and two nephews.
The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by a beloved brother, Glenn Jerome Farnsworth; and a dear sister, Shirley L. Goodman.
Before relocating to Cumberland, Miss Farnsworth was a longtime resident of Baltimore, where she was employed by TWA until 1972. As a young woman, she was an operatic soprano who began her career with the Baltimore Opera Company, and toured as a member of the chorus. She earned an M.S. degree from Loyola College in 1975, and shortly afterward began a career in social services at Shepherd Pratt Hospital.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, Pa., on Saturday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. with the Rev. Ruth Kershner officiating. Interment will be in the Hyndman Cemetery, Hyndman.
LOUIS FAZENBAKER
BARTON - Louis Fazenbaker, 64, of 18703 Lower Georges Creek Road, Barton, died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Nov. 19, 1935, in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late Delbert Fazenbaker and Delphi Elizabeth (Miller) Fazenbaker.
Mr. Fazenbaker was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force in the Korean Conflict. He was of the Methodist faith, a life member of the Lonaconing Trap Club, National Amateur Bowling Association, and was a great fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman. He was a premier pitcher for the Barton Braves Baseball Team of the Twilight League for 16 years, and he won the first ever televised Allegany County Bowling Tournament. He also was a member of the Allegany County Bowling Association and White Oaks Bowling.
Surviving are one daughter, Lori Ann Fazenbaker, Piedmont; two sons, Anthony Louis Fazenbaker and wife Jenean, Lonaconing, and Timothy Jay Fazenbaker, Big Poole; three sisters, Delberta Schramm and husband Harold, Barton, Elsie Creegan and husband Bill, LaVale, and Ruth Llewellyn and husband Everett, Lonaconing; three brothers, Ellis Fazenbaker and wife Cora Lee, Barton, Grover Fazenbaker and wife Joan, Lonaconing, and Lee Fazenbaker and wife Colleen, Lonaconing; three grandchildren, Josh Fazenbaker, Nick Fazenbaker, and Jurnee Price; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home, Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George Loar officiating.
Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lonaconing. Graveside military rites will be accorded by Farrady Post #24, Frostburg.
Nephews will be pallbearers.
CARL E. GROWDEN
CUMBERLAND - Carl Elliott Growden, 72, of Mullen Street, Cumberland, died Saturday, May 8, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Nov. 23, 1926, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Charles and Margaret (Eichner) Growden. He also was preceded in death by one son, John Frederick Growden; and one sister, Doris Belle Kuehl.
Mr. Growden was retired from the Bell Atlantic Telephone Co. and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Telephone Pioneers of America, Cumberland Moose Lodge 271., Cumberland Outdoor Club, Cumberland Goodfellowship Club, Cumberland VFW, and the Cumberland Eagles.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Jo Growden; one son, Thomas Michael Growden and fiancee Nora Johnson, Bunker Hill, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Stephanie Ann Growden and Matthew Thomas Growden, both of Cumberland; two sisters, Leona Lee Walters and husband James, and Thelma Elizabeth Moyer and husband William Frank, all of Ocala, Fla.; one brother, William Derward Growden, Baltimore; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark C. Dill officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
MARVIN R. GOFF
ELKTON - Marvin R. Goff, 79, of Elkton, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, of heart failure in Union Hospital, Elkton.
He was born May 21, 1919, in Cumberland, a son of the late Porter Goff and Cora Ryan Goff; and one sister.
He is survived by his wife, Orpha Faye Goff; a brother, Glenn L. Goff; and three sisters, Greta J. Feltner, Pensacola, Fla., Lena Dickerhoof and June Lowery, both of Cumberland.
Services were held in the Gee Funeral Home, Elkton, on Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999.
Burial was in the Gilpin Manor Memorial Park.
VIRGINIA W. GODWIN
CUMBERLAND - Virginia White Godwin, 86, of Cumberland, died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at her son's residence in Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Dec. 4, 1912, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late William McCullough and Estella May (White) McCullough. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl J. Godwin; one son, William E. Godwin; one daughter, Sandra Godwin Hanekamp; one brother, William E. McCullough; and one sister, Mary Elizabeth McCullough.
Mrs. Godwin was retired from the Allegany County Board of Education, where she had been a cook. She belonged to the First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Mizpah Bible Class. She was also a member of the AARP.
Survivors include her son, Robert Godwin and wife, Linda, Morgantown; one brother, John Calvin McCullough and wife, Ella, Flintstone; a daughter-in-law, Rose Godwin, Springfield, Ill; a son-in-law, William Hanekamp and wife, Linda, Conley, GA; a sister-in-law, Jean Godwin Fetters and husband, Kenneth, Bedford, Pa.; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday at noon, with the Rev. Stanley Weese, officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Terry Godwin, Todd Godwin, Larry McCullough, and John Charles McCullough.
RAYMOND B. GOAD
CUMBERLAND - Raymond Bennett Goad, 62, of 703 Gephart Drive, Cumberland, died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at his home.
Born April 2, 1936, in Everett, Pa., he was the son of the late Earl Bennett Goad and the late Helen Mary (Wakefoose) Goad. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Ann E. (Small) Goad, on Oct. 26, 1990.
Mr. Goad was a retired U.S. Postal Carrier. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he was a member of Fort Cumberland Post 13 American Legion.
Surviving are a son, Allegany County Sheriff David A. Goad and wife Mary, Cumberland; a brother, Charles C. Goad and wife Daisy, Mount Airy; a sister, Rosalie Dunn and husband James, Cumberland; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 10 a.m. with Father Milton A. Hipsley officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Combined Veteran Honor Guard.
ROBERT L. GLOTFELTY
GRANTSVILLE - Robert Lee "Buzz" Glotfelty, 81, of 15966 Bittinger Road, Grantsville, died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Oct. 19, 1917, in McHenry, he was a son of the late Ira and Florence (Niner) Glotfelty.
Mr. Glotfelty was a retired construction worker for Local 616.
Surviving are his wife, Beula (Durst) Glotfelty; one daughter, Marlene L. Beachy, and two sons, Marvin Lee Glotfelty and Clark David Glotfelty, all of Grantsville; a brother, William Glotfelty, McHenry; a sister, Lillian Thomas, Ohio; five grandchildren, Schrilla Eaby, Michael, Amy and Lori Glotfelty, and Priscilla Beachy; and one great-granddaughter, Rachael Eaby.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Brenda Shreve officiating.
Interment will be in the Bittinger Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Jennings United Methodist Church.
