JAMES L. LAGRATTA JR.
CUMBERLAND - James Lee LaGratta Jr., 33, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord Friday, April 23, 1999, at his home.
Born May 25, 1965, in Missouri, he was the son of James L. Lagratta Sr. and Telva (Gentry) LaGratta Courtney, both of Cumberland. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers and his loving grandmothers, Mary Gentry and Rosaline Castle, whom he adored.
Mr. LaGratta was a graduate of Fort Hill High School. He was a coach for the American Trust Recreation League Baseball Team and for the Mini All Star Baseball League.
Mr. LaGratta was loved and will always be remembered by his loving wife, Deborah Anne (Puffenbarger) LaGratta; two daughters, Megan N. LaGratta and Taylor L. LaGratta, and two sons, Christian W. Harman and Nicholas J. LaGratta, all of Cumberland; stepfather, M. William Courtney, and stepmother, Ina M. (Mongold) Lagratta, both of Cumberland; three sisters, Donna L. Spence and husband David, Mount Savage, Patty M. Craft and husband Jay, South Shore, Ky., and Tracy Dicus, Frostburg; two brothers, Glenn A. LaGratta and wife Tammy, and James A. Lagratta and wife Sherri, all of Cumberland; mother-in-law, Dora Arnold, and sister-in-law, Kellie Morgan, both of Cumberland; two brothers-in-law, Roger Morgan, Cumberland, and Michael Morgan and wife Jenifer, Ridgeley, W.Va.; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many good friends.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at noon with Pastor Gregory Georg officiating. Interment will be in the Davis Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Morgan, James Lagratta, David Iliff, Roger Morgan, David Spence and Glenn LaGratta. Honorary pallbearers will be his sons, Christian and Nicholas.
JOHN D. LAING
SYCAMORE, Ill. - John D. Laing, 77, of Sycamore, formerly of Cumberland, Md., died suddenly on Feb. 3, 1999.
He was born on July 26, 1921, and was a son of the late Charles William and Myrtle (Johnson) Laing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Bahen) Laing; two brothers, William and Charles Laing; and a sister, Rose Marie "Tiny" Drake.
Mr. Laing was a veteran of World War II.
He is survived by two sons, John Laing Jr., Gardena, Calif., Charles Laing, Sycamore; two daughters, Patricia Bahen, Sycamore, and Margie Domski, Hebron; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Eddie J. Laing, Clewiston, Fla., and Eugene Laing, Genoa; and a sister, Dolly McDade, Cumberland.
Services were held in Sycamore with the Rev. Moody presiding.
HOWARD E. HUTCHINSON
WESTERNPORT - Howard E. Hutchinson, 96, of 107 Howard St., Westernport, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1999, at the Goodwill Nursing Home, Grantsville.
Born June 20, 1903, in Piedmont, W.Va., he was the son of the late James L. Hutchinson and Florence Vanosdale. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Helen E. Hutchinson, who died Aug. 28, 1997.
Mr. Hutchinson was a member of the Piedmont Presbyterian Church. He was retired from Westvaco Corporation. He was a 50-year member of Davis Lodge #51 A.F. & A.M., Keyser, W.Va.
Surviving are one daughter, Janice Moran and husband James (Sid); two grandchildren, Megan and Matthew Moran, Columbia; one great-grandson, Dominic Moran, Columbia; and two sisters, Ms. Edith Hutchinson, Odenton, and Virginia Wallen, Odenton.
Friends will be received at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, W.Va., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted there on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Meredith Ball and the Rev. Harry Coleman officiating.
Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
Memorials contributions may be made to the Tri-Towns Rescue Squad.
HARRY W. LARRICK
CUMBERLAND - Harry W. Larrick, 74, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born December 21, 1924, in Romney, W.Va., he was the son of the late Harry L. and Geraldine (Twigg) Larrick. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Linda Householder.
Mr. Larrick was retired from C&P; Telephone Company as a construction manager. He was a sales representative for Churchill Distributors and a general manager for Mattingly and Stotler Beverage Distributors. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, a 1943 graduate of Fort Hill High School, a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Ridgeley, W.Va., and a former member of the LaVale Lions Club.
Surviving are his wife, Marie A. (Cifala) Larrick; three sons, David W. Larrick and wife Vicki, Cumberland, Gary L. Larrick and wife Tina, Fort Ashby, W.Va.; and Bruce C. Smith and wife Tina, Cumberland; one brother, Robert Larrick and wife Betty, Gore, Va.; one sister, Norma Davis, Yellow Springs, W.Va.; and six grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Rosary will be recited Friday at 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Fr. James Chetock as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Cumberland.
The family requests contributions be made to St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
Pallbearers will be Michael L. Monahan, Richard L. Monahan, W. Franklin Wolfe, Frederick Wolfe, and Tom O'Rourke.
LEWIS A. LOHR
SWANTON - Lewis A. Lohr, 92, of Beckman-Lohr Road, Swanton, died Saturday, May 15, 1999, at the Ortiz Personal Care Home, Oakland.
Born on May 30, 1906, in Swanton, he was the son of the late Alfred and Susan (O'Brien) Lohr. He was also preceded in death by seven brothers, Grover Lohr, Boyd Lohr, Byard ``Jack'' Lohr, Clark Lohr, Dewey Lohr, Fred Lohr and Earl Lohr; and one sister, Myrtle Lohr.
Mr. Lohr was a retired farmer. He was Protestant by faith and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by a niece, Ethel F. Hines, Swanton; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 18, 1999, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Yoder and the Rev. Gail Hixon officiating.
Interment will be in the Alexander Lohr Cemetery, Swanton.
Pallbearers will be Marlo Ortiz, Melvin Beckman, Fred E. Lohr, Carl Lohr, Eugene Shreve and Jimmy Shreve.
MILLIE L. JEWELL
CRESAPTOWN - Millie Louise Jewell, 79, of Cresaptown, died Thursday, July 1, 1999, at Devlin Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland.
Born May 7, 1920, in Kitzmiller, she was the daughter of the late James and Nellie (Lombard) Pratt. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Jewell.
Mrs. Jewell was a retired manager at Woolworth Restaurant, LaVale. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Cresaptown, and the Cresaptown Eagles Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are five sons, James T. Jewell, Williamsport, George W. Jewell, Cresaptown, Robert Jewell and wife, Debbie, Gore, Va., David Jewell and wife, Katherine, Cresaptown, and Michael E. Jewell and wife, Sandy, Cresaptown; one brother, Thomas Pratt, Kitzmiller; one sister, Helen Brown and husband, Charles, Bunker Hill, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Fr. Martin Feild officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Cumberland.
