MARION H. KALBAUGH
WESTERNPORT - Marion H. Kalbaugh, 80, of 309 Maryland Ave., Westernport, died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, at her home.
Born on Oct. 27, 1918, in Bonne Teer, Mo., and raised in Luke, she was the daughter of the late Peter Vivod and Mary (Nagy) Vivod.
She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Kalbaugh, Westernport; two sons, Robert "Bob" Kalbaugh Jr. and wife, Pat, Metairie, La., and Michael Kalbaugh and wife, Carol, Middletown, Pa.; three daughters, Nancy Samchuck and husband, Dan, Baltimore, Mary Ellen Mahoney and husband, Jim, Plymouth-Meeting, Pa., and Jeanne Shearer and husband, Gordon, Lansdale, Pa.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Kalbaugh was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Vivod and Alex Vivod.
She graduated in 1936 from Bruce High School and from the University of Maryland School of Nursing in 1940. She was employed at the Keyser Hospital as a nurse during World War II, and then retired from the Department of Social Services in 1980. Mrs. Kalbaugh was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church, the Westernport Senior Citizens, and the Maryland Alumni School of Nursing.
Friends will be received at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peters Catholic Church on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Father Jim Hannon officiating.
Interment will be in St. Peters Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that any donations be made to St. Peters School.
RITA L. LANDIS
CUMBERLAND - Rita L. Landis, 62, of Cumberland, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at the Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit, Cumberland.
Born March 2, 1937, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Robert C. "Shorty" and E. Pearl (Smith) Marker.
Mrs. Landis was a registered nurse. She had been employed at Memorial Hospital School of Nursing as a clinical instructor. She was a nursing instructor in Winston-Salem, N.C. While in Winston-Salem, she was instrumental in beginning the nursing program at the local community college. After returning to Cumberland, she was a surgical assistant and office manager for the late Dr. Frederick W. Miltenberger. Mrs. Landis was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, Class of 1955. She received her Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of Miami. She as a Methodist by faith, and she was a member of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, where she volunteered in the Rainbow Gift Shop.
Surviving are two sons, Gerald W. Landis Jr. and wife Jenni K., Greenville, N.C., and R. Michael Landis Sr. and wife Pam, Winston-Salem; two sisters, Dorothy M. Screen and husband Ronald, and Carol J. Lockard and husband Chris, all of Cumberland; one brother, Robert J. Marker and wife Barbara, Cumberland; two grandsons, J. David Landis and Robert M. Landis Jr.; one granddaughter, Jessica Karsin Landis; and several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Jewell officiating.
Interment will be in the Fort Ashby Cemetery.
The family requests that contributions be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
HARRY L. HABERLEIN
ECKHART - Harry Lewis Haberlein, 90, of 17205 Old National Pike, S.W., died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at the Frostburg Village Adult Care Center.
Born May 12, 1909, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Conrad and Edith (Jenkins) Haberlein. He also was preceded in death by his wife Clara V. (Broadwater) Haberlein on May 10, 1999.
Mr. Haberlein was retired from the Kelly Springfield Tire Company.
Surviving are one son, Paul Haberlein and wife Judy, Eckart; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George Harpold officiating.
Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Park.
CHARLES H. HACKER JR.
LONACONING - Charles Henry Hacker Jr., 76, of 11 Watercliffe St., Lonaconing, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at home.
Born June 15, 1922, in Lonaconing, he was a son of the late Charles Henry Hacker Sr., and Clara (Beeman) Hacker. Also preceding him in death was his wife, Betty L. Hacker, on Sept. 27, 1994.
Mr. Hacker was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and retired from Celanese Fibers Corporation as a Machinist with 24 years' service. He was Protestant by faith and a member of Alvin C. Neat Post #5280 V.F.W., Lonaconing, the Rod & Gun Club of Laurel Run, the Ship Program of Georges Creek, and the American Legion Post #189, Barton.
Surviving are a son, Charles William Hacker, Westminster; a daughter, Stella Donaldson, Lonaconing; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Beulah Jacobs, Lonaconing; and a brother, James Hacker, Florida. Also surviving are 10 nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Donald Webb officiating.
Interment will be in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Cumberland. Military rites will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard at Rocky Gap Cemetery.
The Alvin C. Neat Post #5280 V.F.W. will hold a memorial service on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m., and American Legion Post #189, Barton, will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.
Grandsons will be pallbearers.
RONNIE C. HUFF
CUMBERLAND - Ronnie C. Huff, 43, of Glen Oaks, Cumberland, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at his residence.
Born June 16, 1955, in Cumberland, he was the son of Kenneth E. Huff, of Cumberland, and the late Dorothy Louise (Redhead) Huff.
Mr. Huff was a tractor-trailer driver for Klavuhn Moving & Storage Mayflower Agency. He was a member of Bethel Church of the Nazarene, Valley Road.
Surviving in addition to his father are his wife, H. Louise Huff; two daughters, Tranea Huff and Ronee Huff, and one son, Calvin J. Huff, all at home; one sister, Julie Huff, Cumberland; six brothers, Kenny Huff, Cumberland, Walker Huff and wife Carol, Cresaptown, Dave Huff and wife Judy, and Steve Huff, all of Cumberland, James Huff, Glen Oaks, Cumberland, and Francis Huff and wife Virginia, Cresaptown; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Bethel Church of the Nazarene, Valley Road, Cumberland, on Friday at 1 p.m. with Rev. David F. Dayhoff officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Davis Memorial Cemetery.
EDWARD M. HADLEY
CUMBERLAND - Edward M. Hadley, 74, of Devlin Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Bedford Street, Cumberland, and Finksburg, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 27, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born on Jan. 28, 1925, in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late George Edward and Mary (Holmes) Hadley. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nellie F. Hadley; two brothers, Earl and Jack Hadley; and two sisters, Helena Bloom and Eleanor Starkey.
Mr. Hadley was retired from Rosewood State Hospital, Owings Mills, where he had been a delivery man and cafeteria employee. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was Catholic by faith and a member of the Cumberland VFW, Henry Hart Post No. 1411, and the Cumberland Stroke Club.
Surviving are one son, Patrick Hadley and wife, Lisa, Manchester; one stepson, Tommy Miller, Hagerstown; three brothers, George Hadley, Salisbury, N.C., Douglas Hadley, Boise, Idaho, and Carl "Burt" Hadley, Cumberland; one sister, Hilda Logan, Bonifay, Fla.; one grandson, Christopher Hadley; and one granddaughter, Jordan Hadley.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake will be conducted Wednesday at 8:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Thursday at 10 a.m. with Fr. Jerome Dunn, O.F.M., Cap. as celebrant.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
