BRENDA S. LIGHT
CUMBERLAND - Brenda Sue Light, 46, of 124 Bedford St., Cumberland, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at her home.
Born Sept. 16, 1952, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of Larry Byrne of West Alexandria, Ohio, and the late Evelyn Mona (Hillebrecht) Beaver.
Mrs. Light was a member of St. Mark's United Church of Christ and the Women of the Moose Chapter 914.
Surviving is a son, Brenton Renner, at home. Among her many aunts, uncles and cousins, was a special aunt, Edith Currence, who helped rear her and a cousin, Mona Currence McKenzie, who was like a sister to Brenda.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Friday at 11a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Harold T. Shaffer officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
SISTER MADELEINE LINDNER, D.C.
EMMITSBURG - Sister Madeleine (Anna Margaret) Lindner, D.C., 85, a resident of Villa Saint Michael, Emmitsburg, died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at the Villa.
Born March 6, 1914, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Theresa (Lehman) Lindner. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernadette Lindner and Marie A. Yockus; and four brothers, Paul F., John V., James J., and Michael L. Lindner.
Sister Madeleine graduated from Saint Patrick's School and Catholic Girls Central High School. She entered the Daughters of Charity in July of 1933. After completing her preparation, she served as group mother for a home of boys in Saginaw, Mich., for 14 years. In January of 1948, she began a career of 30 years teaching in elementary and high schools. She visited patients at Saint Vincent's Medical Center, Jacksonville, Fla., for three years, after which she was sent back to her home city, Cumberland. She then served in pastoral care at Sacred Heart Hospital from 1982 to 1989. She became a resident of Villa Saint Michael in 1989.
Surviving are five sisters, four of whom are also Daughters of Charity, and Loretta L. Lippold, Cumberland; and one brother, Philip E. Lindner, Cumberland.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, and she was laid to rest in Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Emmitsburg.
CARL R. LEWIS SR.
CUMBERLAND - Carl R. Lewis Sr., 65, of Cumberland, formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport.
Born March 15, 1934, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Dorie H. Lewis and Evelyn R. (Smith) Lewis Bell. He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Cheryl Clites; and one brother, Paul E. Lewis Sr.
Mr. Lewis was a retired bus driver for Allegany Transit Authority, Cumberland. He was a member of Fellowship Church of the Brethren, Martinsburg. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Juanita Lewis; two sons, Carl Lewis Jr., Charleston, S.C., and Larry Lewis, Waterloo, Iowa; two grandsons, Jason Clites, Cumberland, and Taylor Halter, Waterloo; two granddaughters, Jessica Clites, Cumberland, and Victoria Archbell, Chesapeake, Va.; and one sister, Esther Piper, Lanham.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert A. Hymes and the Rev. Stephen M. Schuessler officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
JACK E. LOVE
HAGERSTOWN - Jack Edward Love, 75, of 2 West Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at his home.
Born Sept. 7, 1924, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Anna Moore Love, Hagerstown, and the late Junius A. Love.
Mr. Love was a graduate of Notre Dame University, with honors, and was a star athlete. He was signed by the Chicago Bears. He also graduated from Georgetown School of Linguistics. He served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Love worked for the F.B.I. for sixteen years; for the District Attorney's office for Cook County, Chicago, Ill., and for the National Geological Survey, maping out Alaskan territories after World War II. He was a Professor of Social Studies and Law Enforcement at Hagerstown Junior College. He was a teacher of Social Studies at M.C.T.C., retiring in 1989. He was an All American Athlete for the State of Maryland, two years in a row. He was a concert pianist for 13 years.
Mr. Love was a member of the Amvets Post No. 10.
Surviving besides his mother, is his wife, Betty L. Love; one daughter, Gretchen L. Love, Hagerstown; one son, Michael B. Love and wife Tammy, Hagerstown, and two granddaughters, Montana L. Love and Cheyenne M. Love, both of Hagerstown.
Friends will be received at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held there on Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Louis L. Emerick officiating.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown MD 21742 and/or the Society for the Prevention of the Blind.
DUNCAN EMMETT "DUNK" HAINES
LONACONING - Duncan Emmett "Dunk" Haines, 97, of 17103 Antique Road, S.W., formerly Charlestown Street, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born July 13, 1901, in Romney, W.Va., he was a son of the late Mandeville Haines and Mintie (Hott) Haines. Also preceding him in death was his wife, Nellie E. (Llewellyn) Haines, on July 29, 1990. He was the last of his immediate family and the oldest resident of Lonaconing.
Mr. Haines was of the Protestant faith, and was a member of the United Mine Workers. Mr. Haines was a retired logger and coal miner, having been a coal miner for 50 years. He worked for Connor & Haines Coal Company until 1957, at which time he became self employed from 1957 to 1968 at the Duncan Haines Coal Company. After his retirement he enjoyed making wood lawn furniture.
Surviving are one son, Vernon Haines, Lonaconing; one grandson, David Haines and wife, Patty, Lonaconing; and one great-granddaughter, Lauren M. Haines.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, on Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Services will be at the funeral home on Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Mortimore officiating.
Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
Pallbearers will be Mike McCormick, Brian Green, Larry Russell, Ed Llewellyn, David "Buzz" Spiker, Ronnie Brown, John Deniker and Patrick Cowan.
PATRICIA C. LINEBURG
CUMBERLAND - Patricia C. Lineburg, 75, of Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, died Sunday, July 18, 1999, at her residence.
Born Oct. 21, 1923, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Faye Gladys (Shanholtzer) Herbaugh. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lineburg; and one sister, Onetta (Herbaugh) Willison.
Mrs. Lineburg was retired from Nobil Shoes. She was Methodist by faith and a member of the Cumberland DAV, the Goodfellowship Club, Cumberland, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are one sister, Mary Genevieve Brandli, Fairmont, W.Va.; one son, Bill O'Braden, Deltona, Fla.; one niece, Deborah Gattian, Fairmont; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Disabled American Veterans will conduct a memorial service Friday at noon.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne R. Turner officiating.
Interment will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Points, W.Va.
