WILLIAM R. LISTON
William R. Liston, 75, Chippewa Township, Pa., formerly of Moon Township, Pa., died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at the Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, South Beaver Township, Pa.
Born Dec. 27, 1924, in Friendsville, he was the son of the late Byard and Iva (Savage) Liston.
He attended the University of Akron (Ohio), was a graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, and attended Sparta School of Aviation in Tulsa, Okla., in preparation for a 33-year career as a lead mechanic for USAir, before retiring in 1984. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth (Wirdzek) Liston, and one son, David R. Liston, Friendsville.
Friends were received at Campbell's Chippewa Funeral Home, Chippewa Township, where prayers were recited Tuesday morning. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Darlington, Pa., on Tuesday, April 25, with the Rev. James B. Krab as celebrant. Interment was in SS. Simon and Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, Pa.
N. RUTH FRIEND
N. Ruth Friend, 72, Swanton, died Friday, April 21, 2000, at her home.
Born July 2, 1927, in Mtn. Lake Park, she was a daughter of the late Allen and Mabel (Bittinger) Timmerman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Daniel L. Friend, in 1991.
Surviving are two daughters, Cynthia S. Rinker, Swanton, and Dawn M. Bowman, Oakland; three sons, Paul M. Friend, Deer Park, and Kenneth W. Friend and Garry Mayfield, both of Swanton; two sisters, Wilma Friend, Deer Park, and Helen Clary, Mtn. Lake Park; two brothers, Harold Timmerman, Mtn. Lake Park, and George Timmerman, Sunnyvale, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was conducted Monday, April 24, with the Rev. Gail Hixon officiating. Interment was in the Glendale Cemetery.
ORVILLE E. DEBERRY
Orville Elwood Deberry, 77, Kingwood, W.Va., died Saturday, April 22, 2000, in Kingwood.
Born June 22, 1922, in Preston County, W.Va., he was a son of the late Orville R. and Adelia (Harden) DeBerry. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Everett, Lawrence, and Sanford DeBerry; one grandson; and one great-grandson.
He was self-employed carpenter in the construction business, a member of the Little Sandy Church of the Nazarene, and a builder of bird houses.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Pauline (Ault) DeBerry; one son, Wade DeBerry, Kingwood; five daughters, Bertha Moser, Irene DeWitt, Betty Uphold, Linda Uphold, and Janet McDaniel, all of Kingwood; three brothers, Clarence De-Berry, Kingwood, James De-Berry, Tunnelton, W.Va., and Chauncy DeBerry, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at Browning's Funeral Home, Kingwood, where a service was conducted Tuesday, April 25, with the Rev. Walter Speece officiating. Interment was in the Maplewood Cemetery, Kingwood.
SYLVIA L. LILLER
Sylvia L. Liller, 89, Keyser, W.Va., formerly of Oakland, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born May 23, 1910, in Irvin, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late James T. and Mary E. (Lee) Lipscomb. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ezra H. Liller, in 1984; two sons, Allen Liller and Leon Liller, a nephew whom she reared, Tommy Joe Lipscomb; three sisters, Lula Shaffer, Irene Piper, and Evelyn "Ruth" Warfield; and two brothers, Clayton "Teddy" and Grant Lipscomb.
She was a member of the Oakland congregation of Jehovah's Witness, and attended the McCoole congregation.
Surviving are Pauline E. Cosner, Keyser, with whom she resided for 10 years, and Leona K. Beckman, Linthicum Heights; seven grand-children; and eight great-granddaughters.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was conducted Tuesday, April 25, with Donald Stull officiating. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery.
ELMER MINNICK
Elmer Minnick, 81, Avilton, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at his home.
Born Feb. 26, 1919, in Garrett County, he was a son of the late Bert and Lulu (Caton) Minnick. He was also preceded in death by one son, Karl Minnick; three brothers, James, Lawrence, and Conrad; and one sister, Eleanor.
He was Catholic by faith. He was a retired mechanic for Matlack Trucking Co., and a member of the AFL-CIO. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann (McKenzie) Minnick; four sons, Joseph Minnick, Centreville, Roger Minnick, Hagerstown, Elmer Minnick Jr., Mount Airy, and Bobby Minnick, Linthicum; two daughters, Patricia Winfield, Frostburg, and Brenda Minnick, Baltimore; one sister, Ethel McKenzie, Cumberland; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where prayers were recited Saturday, April 22, with the Rev. William Moody officiating. Cremation followed. Interment will be at a later date in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Avilton.
The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to the cemetery fund at St. Ann's Catholic Church.
CHARLES T. BAKER
Charles Thomas "Tom" Baker, 58, Friendsville, died Friday, April 14, 2000, at his home in McHenry.
Born March 13, 1942, in Abingdon, he was a son of the late Charles F. and Elma L. (Davis) Baker.
He was a member of the First Fruits Ministries, Confluence, Pa., and attended the Loch Lynn Church of God. He was a former salesman for Bell Brothers Auto Sales, Oakland.
Survivors include his wife, Donna L. (Dressel) Baker; one stepson, Jesse Thomas Dry, at home; one son, Jeromy Baker, Oakland; two daughters, Heidi Jo Baker and Kristin D. Baker, both of Oakland; one sister, Kathy L. Herbaugh, Galivants Ferry, S.C.; and two brothers, J. Edward Baker, North Attleboro, Mass., and Norman R. Baker, Aynor, S.C.
At the deceased's request, his body was cremated. A memorial service was conducted at the Mercy Chapel, Friendsville, on Tuesday, April 18, with Pastor Tim Gosnell officiating.
The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to the First Fruits Ministries, P.O. Box 193, Confluence, PA 15426.

FLORENCE L. BENNER
Florence L. Benner, 95, Huntsville, Ark., formerly of Oakland, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at Meadowview Healthcare and Rehab in Huntsville.
Born Feb. 17, 1905, in Oakland, she was the daughter of the late Salem and Elizabeth Jane (Lipscomb) Lee. She was also preceded in death in 1964 by her husband, Hugh Atlin Benner, whom she married on May 29, 1925.; one son, John F. Benner; and a great-granddaughter.
She was a homemaker, a Presbyterian by faith, and a member of the Salvation Army Home League.
Survivors include one son, Hugh Richard Benner, Newport News, Va.; one daughter, Major Joyce Lee Benner Smelser, Huntsville; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, April 25, at the Case Funeral Home, Saginaw, Mich., with committal services at the Oakwood Mausoleum Chapel.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Brashears Funeral Home, Huntsville.
VERGIE G. MCKENZIE
Vergie Gertrude McKenzie, 82, Grantsville, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born Dec. 22, 1917, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late John and Ella (Hemmings) Garlitz. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dayton A. McKenzie, and two sons, Dalton Anthony McKenzie and Patrick James McKenzie.
She was a member of Old St. Ann's Catholic Church, Avilton.
Survivors include seven sons, John William McKenzie, Brian Francis McKenzie, Edward Julius McKenzie, and Harold Joseph McKenzie, all of Grantsville, Larry David McKenzie, Oakland, and Norman Alfonsis McKenzie, Friendsville; one daughter, Agnes Viola Yutzy, Grantsville, and numerous grand-children and great-grand-children.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann's Shrine, Avilton, on Friday, April 28, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. William Moody as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery.
EVA M. THORN
Eva M. Thorn, 81, Accident, died Monday, April 24, 2000, at her home, following a lengthy illness.
Born May 10, 1918, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Katherine (Buettner) Hoehn. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Frederick C. Hoehn, in 1992.
She was a retired nuclear physicist for the U.S. Navy in Albuquerque, N.M., and Silver Spring. She was a World War II veteran and served as a 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Army WAC. She received her B.A. in physics and mathematics from the University of Montana and taught calculus at Garrett Community College, McHenry. She was of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathryn M. Simpson, San Diego, Calif; and two granddaughters.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, McHenry, and may call at the Bruzdzinski Funeral Home, Baltimore, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday. A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, April 28, at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery, Baltimore.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to either the Northern or Southern rescue squads, or a charity of the donor's choice.
MARTIN E. TRESSLER
Martin E. "Bud" Tressler, 78, Grantsville, died Monday, April 24, 2000, at his home.
Born Feb. 10, 1922, in Springs, Pa., he was a son of the late John B. and Annie (Eichorn) Tressler.
He was a member of the Springs Mennonite Church and attended St. Paul's United Methodist Church. A master well driller, he was the owner and operator of Tressler Well Drilling, and was also one of the first Jacuzzi area representatives. Prior to this, he was a tire builder for Kelly Springfield Tire Company.
He was a member of the Grantsville Rotary Club, the first president of the Casselman Valley Sportsmen's Club, and current president of the Grantsville Snowmobile Club. He also operated the Grantsville Trap and Skeet Range for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Earleena J. (Tipton) Tressler; one son, Ronald E. Tressler, Clifton, Va.; two daughters, Cherie A. Umbel, Vienna, Va., and Rebecca A. Tressler, Centreville, Va.; two brothers, Elwood Tressler and Clyde Tressler, both of Springs; two sisters, Viola Maust, Fort Hill, Pa., and Mary Bennett, Springs; and three grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where a service was conducted at 2 p.m. today, April 27, with the Rev. Steven Heatwole and the Rev. Brenda Shreve officiating. Interment was in the Grantsville Cemetery.
