ROBERT J. KENNEY
FROSTBURG - Robert J. Kenney, 82, of Frostburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, at his home.
Born Dec. 12, 1916, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Cecelia J. (Broderick) and Peter T. Kenney. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Kenney and Stephen Kenney, and five sisters, Mildred Brady, Madeline Liller, Geraldine Thomas, Katherine Hayden and Mary Jo Kenney.
Mr. Kenney owned and operated the Hosken Jewelry Store from 1951 until closing the business upon his retirement in 1981. During World War II, he worked at Olmstead Field in Middletown, Pa., repairing automatic pilots and directional instruments for B17's for the Air Force, and later at National Airport in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Kenney was a 1935 graduate of Beall High School. He was a member of Saint Michael's Catholic Church and served on the Parish Council. He was an honorary lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1442 where he held several posts including Grand Knight from 1979-1980. He was instrumental in the formation of the Western Maryland Knights of Columbus Charity Golf Tournament benefiting the retired religious. He also was a member of the Benevolent Protective Organization of the Elks #470, charter member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, founding member of the Frostburg Industrial Development Corporation, original stockholder of Maplehurst Country Club, a member of the Frostburg Businessmen's Association, and a Registered Jeweler with the American Gem Society.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Lillian (Elrick) Kenney; one son, Kevin Kenney, Bethesda; three daughters, Mary DeVelbiss, Springfield, W.Va., Terri Clark and husband Joe, Wellersburg, Pa., and Agnes Nusbaum and husband Brad, Saint Louis, Mo.; and nine grandchildren, Michael, Melissa and Stephanie Kenney, Christine and Jason Malcolm, Jo Ann and David Clark, and Allison and Christian Nusbaum.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 West Main St., Frostburg, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial services will be conducted by the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #470 at 8 p.m. and the Knights of Columbus Council #1442 at 8:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Michael Catholic Church Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Douglas Kenney and the Rev. Fr. Paul Byrnes as celebrants.
Interment will be in Saint Michael Cemetery.

ETHEL W. LEWIS
FROSTBURG - Ethel W. Lewis, 77, formerly of Frostburg, having been a resident of the Goodwill Mennonite Home Inc., Gils Unit, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born May 9, 1921, in Eckhart, she was the daughter of the late Claude L. Ward Sr. and Elizabeth (Duckworth) Ward. She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Frank Lewis.
Mrs. Lewis was a former owner and operator of the Lewis Fabric Shoppe and was a member of the Eastern Star Mountain Chapter #15.
Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Chabot and husband, Bernard, South Carolina, and Cindi McGreevy and husband, Brian, Winchester, Va.; and three grandchildren, Nicholas, Breanna and Joel McGreevy.
Services will be conducted at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, today at 10 a.m. with the Rev. T. William Preston officiating.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.

ROBERT L. HALE
CUMBERLAND - Robert Lynn Hale, 52, of 330 Cumberland St., Cumberland, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born April 18, 1947, in Cumberland, he was son of Hermena Frances (McGee) Hale, of Cumberland, and the late John Issac Hale. He was also preceded in death by a brother, John F. Hale.
Mr. Hale was formerly employed at Columbia University.
Surviving besides his mother are a sister, Helen Jean Hale, Cumberland; a brother, George Edward Hale and wife, Anna, Taneytown; a special friend, Arthur Knoots, Cumberland; a sister-in-law, Iris Hale, Antigo, WI; four nieces, Elizabeth Hooper and husband, Bruce, Littlestown, Pa., Barbara Group, Littlestown, Pa., Valery Lex and husband, Kurt, Greenbay, WI, and Sandy Lawyer, Antigo, WI; and three nephews, Eric Hale, Taneytown, Curtis Hale and wife, Denise, Antigo, WI, and Timothy Hale and wife, Kathy, Antigo, WI.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Stephen F. Yelovich, officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
J. KENNETH JAMES
FROSTBURG - J. Kenneth James, 82, of 100 Honeysuckle Lane, Frostburg, formerly of Grahamtown, died Friday, May 14, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Aug. 25, 1916, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Marie (Powell) James. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph E. James and David W. James, and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. James was retired from the accounting department of the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #470, Past Master of Mt. Lodge #99 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, and Past Secretary of Ohr Chapter of Royal Arch Masons.
Surviving are his wife, Helen E. ``Nellie'' (Eichorn) James; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mountain Lodge #99 A.F. and A.M. will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Steve Shussett officiating.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.
FRED HALL
FLINTSTONE - Fred Hall, 76, of Flintstone, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 1999, at his home, and he was later pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Feb. 15, 1923, in Petersburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late Arnold and Letty (Goldzier) Hall. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Helen L. (Dolly) Hall in 1998 and 11 brothers and sisters.
Mr. Hall was retired from the Van Hess and Company Saw Mill. He was also a farmer who enjoyed hunting.
Surviving are six sons, Keith Richard Hall, Flintstone, Frederick Hall, Jr., Cumberland, William Lee Hall, Flintstone, Tom Hall and wife Carol, Rawlings, Donald Hall and wife Reberta, Oldtown, and Timmy Hall, Rawlings; two daughters, Rosie Burley and husband Richard, Corriganville, JoAnn Puffenberger, Cumberland; one brother, Zones Hall, Keyser's Ridge; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Sunday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Fred Iser officiating.
Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery, Flintstone.
MARY E. HALL
CUMBERLAND - Mary Elizabeth Hall, 72, of Oak Street, Cumberland, formerly of Virginia Avenue and Jane Frazier Village, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at her home.
Born Dec. 20, 1926, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late William and Emma (Fields) Norris. She also was preceded in death by her husband, William N. Hall, on Aug. 13, 1996; two daughters, Nancy and JoAnn Hall; one son, James Hall; two sisters, Anna Mae Terry and Dorothy Logue; and one brother, Robert Norris.
Mrs. Hall was a homemaker. She was a member of Second Baptist Church, and a lifetime member of the Goodfellowship Club.
Surviving are four daughters, Carol Gower and husband Dave, Phoenix, Ariz., Cynthia Hall, Cumberland, Lorraine ``Sue'' Arnold, Flintstone, and Donna Miller and husband Clyde, Glendale, Ariz.; one sister, Delores Lepley, Cumberland; one brother, William Norris and wife Frances, Cumberland; seven grandchildren, David Dyer, Johnny Dunaway, Billy Hall, Stacy Hall, James Arnold, Michelle Arnold and Stephanie Kuhns; three great-grandchildren, Brittney Dyer, Ashley Dyer and Theresa Kuhns; and numerous nieces and nephews.
