ELMER E. JEFFRIES
MIDLAND - Elmer "Jeff" Edward Jeffries, 74, formerly of Midland, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, August 18, 1999, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born Oct. 26, 1924, in Star City, W.Va., he was the son of the late Joseph E. and Alice (Sanders) Jeffries. He attended Midland and Beall High School. Mr. Jeffries served in the U.S. Army, as a military policeman and spent 20 years as an engineer in the Merchant Marines. After retirement, Elmer spent his days traveling to Midland and Lonaconing to socialize. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and Maritime Union.
Surviving are a son, Edward Jeffries; daughter, Debra Hollen and husband Ted, all of New Jersey; grandchildren, April, Michelle, Ritchie, Jennifer, Edward Jr. "Sonny", Erin, all of New Jersey; three great-grandchildren, Brittany, Shane and Justin; one sister, Delores Footen; two nephews, William and Robert Footen; a niece, Kathleen (Footen) Winebrenner, all of Frostburg; two great-nieces, Tammy and Kerri; two great-great nephews, Joshua and Daniel; a great-great niece, Carlie; special friends, Colleen Gordon, Becky Ritz and Jean Jones; and special pet, Heidi.
At Mr. Jeffries request, his body will be cremated and buried at sea. There will be no visitation or services. Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, is handling the arrangements.

PATRICK K. LOGSDON
FROSTBURG - Patrick Kenny Logsdon, 62, of Frostburg, died Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at his home.
Born Dec. 2, 1936, in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late Daniel and Mae (Barry) Logsdon. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Patsy Keyes; one brother, Jack Logsdon; and his special grandfather, Commodore Barry.
Mr. Logsdon was District President of PPG, United Glass and Ceramic Workers Union & United Steel Workers Association. He was a graduate of Valley High School and Potomac State College. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, and was Past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge #470. He was an avid golfer and a member of Maplehurst Country Club. He was also a member of Moose Lodge #348, K of C Council #1442, Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge #1273, sons of American Legion Post #24, and Wamba Caravan #89 Inc., Order of Alhambra.
Surviving are his wife, Sally (Kreitzburg) Logsdon; one son, Patrick Kenny Logsdon Jr., Frostburg; two daughters, Mary Lynn Logsdon, Washington, D.C., and Sandra Kay Logsdon, Flanders, N.J.; one grandson, Jonathan Patrick Logsdon; and four sisters, Rita Hartley, Monica Mason and Mary "Bootie" McGreevy, all of Dunedie, Fla., and Eleanor Sheely, Mountain Lake Park.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Elks Lodge #470 will have a service at 8:15 p.m. The Christian Wake Service will be held at 8:30 p.m. with Deacon Loren Mooney officiating.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with Father Paul A. Byrnes as celebrant.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
HILDA K. HAWKINS
CUMBERLAND - Hilda Kline Hawkins, 80, of Cumberland, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 28, 1919, in Keyser, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John H. and Mary (Lease) Kline. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Harold W. Hawkins, in 1997; two brothers; and one sister.
Mrs. Hawkins was retired from Memorial Hospital with 37 years service. She had been a pharmacy technician.
Mrs. Hawkins was a member of the Fairview Avenue United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the United Methodist Women, the McKinley Chapter #12, O.E.S., Re Temple #118, Daughters of the Nile, the Cedarettes, and the LaVale Century Club.
Surviving are three step-sons, Richard Hawkins, Mapleton, Utah, Harold Hawkins, Pinto, and Edwin Hawkins, Winchester, Va.; one sister, Elizabeth Marshall, Winchester; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Members of McKinley Chapter #12, O.E.S., will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Edward R. Dickel officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
REV. MSGR. SIMON E. KENNY
PYLESVILLE - On July 2, 1999, Rev. Msgr. Simon Edward Kenny of Long Crandon, (Pastor Emeritus, St. Mary's Church, Pylesville), passed away.
He was the beloved son of the late John Thomas and Emma Quinn Kenny; devoted brother of Sister Patricia Kenny, D.C. of Emmitsburg, and the late John J. Kenny, James Q. Kenny and Margaret Kenny Jeppi; loving brother-in-law of the late Florence Kenny and Marie C. Kenny. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Monsignor Kenny's body will lie in state in the Chapel of Stella Maris at the Cardinal Shehan Center for the Aging, 2300 Dulaney Valley Road, Timonium, on Tuesday, July 6, from 5 to 6:45 p.m., with a Funeral Mass being concelebrated at 7 p.m. Monsignor Kenny will further lie in state in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pylesville, on Wednesday, July 7, from 5 to 8 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m., and on Thursday, July 8, from 11 to 11:45 a.m., with a Funeral Mass being concelebrated at noon.
Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Rev. Msgr. Simon E. Kenny Scholarship Fund, c/o St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1021 St. Mary's Road, Pylesville, MD 21132.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Lemmon Funeral Home, Timonium.
BETTY J. HAWKS
WAYNESBORO, Va. - Betty Juanita Hawks, 71, of Route 5 Box 284 died at 3:55 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999 at the Shenandoah Nursing Home in Fishersville.
She was born Feb. 2, 1928 in Zihlman, Md., and was the daughter of Urban and Clarabelle (Bluebaugh) Porter.
She was a homemaker and attended Christ Church of Waynesboro.
In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Porter; sisters Mary Hare, Phillis Ruth Ohler, Sue Catherine Porter, Janet Marlene Porter and Patience Ileen Porter.
Survivors include her husband, Daniel Hawks; two sons, Thomas Daniel Hawks and his wife Joyce, of Elkton, Md., Terry Lee Hawks and his wife Nancy, of Elkton, Va.; one daughter, Linda Rodeheaver and her husband Larry, of Crimora; one brother, Urban Porter, of Winchester, Va.; four sisters, Delores Jean Crowe, of Mount Savage, Md., Clarabelle Arnold, of Mentor, Ohio, Joan Paulette Dorsey and Crystal Lee Minnigh, both of Cumberland, Md.
She is also survived by her grandchildren; Laura Rodeheaver Maine, Tracy Hawks, Tanya Hawks, Jeremy Hawks, Teresa Comer, Tonya Hensley, and Nickolas Dean; great-grandchildren, Erica and Emily Main, Kaitlin, Megan and Marina Comer, and Hannah and Lindsey Hensley.
A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Reynolds Funeral Service of Waynesboro by Pastors Alton Wilson, William Hatter and Greg Miller. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park, Fishersville.
Active pallbearers will be Jason Rinehart, Larry Pennington, Brian Zimmerman, Darrell Meek, King Pugh, and George Varner.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Campbell and Warren Hatter.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
ETHEL E. HAYCOCK
CRESAPTOWN - Ethel Estella (Baker) Haycock, 94, of Cresaptown, died July 2, 1999.
Born Jan. 12, 1905, in Patterson Creek, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William H. and Susie (Malone) Baker.
Her husband, Arden Wade Haycock, preceded her in death on Aug. 22, 1959. Also preceding her in death were her step-mother, Fannie V. (Logsdon) Baker; a brother, Elwood Baker; a sister, Audra Wilburn; and a foster sister, Margaret Baldwin.
Mrs. Haycock was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Patterson Creek. She was a former employee of the Celanese Corporation.
Surviving are her son, Arden William "Jim" Haycock, and his wife, Vivian (Smith) Haycock, Cresaptown; four granddaughters, Niki Loar, Old Furnace Road, Toni Quesenberry, and husband, Frankie, Fort Ashby, Janie Haycock, Bowling Green, Cumberland, and Bobbi Dubins, and husband, Bruce, Lakewood, W.Va.; five great-grandchildren, Jacob Loar, Old Furnace Road, Kelli, Kyler and T.J. Quesenberry, Fort Ashby, and Jackie Dubins, Lakewood; three nieces, Virginia Wilburn, Martinsburg, W.Va., Ruthie Conner, Roanoke, Va., and Darlene Baldwin, Romney, W.Va.; and two nephews, Robert Baldwin, Fort Ashby, and Page Baldwin, Romney.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Sunday, July 4, 1999, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Upchurch Funeral Home Inc., Fort Ashby, on July 5, 1999, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Delbert Poling officiating.
Interment will be in the Fort Ashby Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be men from St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
