MARTHA C. FORTNEY
Martha Curtis (Washington) Fortney, 94, Silver Spring, formerly of Luke and Bloomington, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Montgomery County Hospital, Olney.
Born April 16, 1906, in Charleston, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Robert Franklin Washington and Cora Delle (Older) Washington. She was a descendant of the first president, George Washington. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alton Ree Fortney, on April 3, 1974; and eight brothers and sisters.
She was a graduate of West Virginia University with a degree in home economics. She and her husband were actively involved in scouting in the tristate area for many yers. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, W.Va., the Eastern Star, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was a former resident of Leisure World, Silver Spring, and had been at Green Acre Assisted Living for the past four years.
Survivors include one son, Alton R. "Sonny" Fortney Jr., Woodstock, Ga.; two daughters, Mary Louise Fisk, Rochester, Mich., and Martha W. "Bunny" Marshall, Silver Spring; one sister, Dorothy James, Charleston; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, from 4 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday. A funeral service will be conducted at Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, on Friday, April 28, at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Joseph Jarrett officiating. He will be assisted by Mrs. Fortney's grandson, Pastor Robert Fisk.
Interment will be in the Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to the local boy or girl scouts organizations in the tristate area.
WENDELL R. TURNEY
Word has been received of the Nov. 6, 1999, death of Wendell Raymond Turney, 83, Lakeland, Fla., at the Regional Medical Center, Lakeland.
Born in Oakland, he was a son of the late Milton and Alice (Little) Turney. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Herbert Turney, and his brother-in-law, Stanley L. Calhoun, in 1998.
He was a graduate of Oakland High School. He later moved to Morgantown, W.Va., and was employed by the Exxon Company as a trailer truck driver. He moved to Lakeland following his retirement.
He was a veteran of World War II and served in the medical corps in the African and European theatres.
While a resident of Florida, he was a member of the American Legion, Winter Haven, the Crystal Woods Property Association, and the Crystal Lake United Methodist Church. While in Morgantown, he was a member of the VFW, and was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Terra Alta, W.Va.
Survivors include his wife, Bernadine (Calhoun) Turney; one son, Wendell Turney Jr.; and five grandchildren.
The body was cremated. A memorial service was conducted at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, with his nephew, the Rev. Harold Kelley, Carmichaels, Pa., officiating. Interment followed.
LEE W. RODAMER
Lee Warren Rodamer, 55, Salisbury, Pa., died Monday, April 17, 2000, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born Feb. 19, 1945, in Meyersdale, Pa., he was a son of Bertha (Klotz) Rodamer, Springs, Pa., and the late Clarence Rodamer.
He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Bittinger. He was coowner of Rodamer Concrete Products, Springs, with his father and brother since 1994. He was also employed as a weigh master for Keystone Lime Co., Springs.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, and was a member of Woodmen of the World Camp 41, Grantsville.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Frances Mary (Skidmore) Rodamer; one brother, Neil Rodamer, Springs; and one sister, Jean Stroff, Trenton, N.J.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where a service was conducted earlier today, April 20, with the Rev. David Fetter officiating. Interment was in the Springs Cemetery.

WILBUR G. LOWDERMILK SR.
Wilbur G. Lowdermilk Sr., 80, Friendsville, died Monday, April 17, 2000, at Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Dec. 11, 1919, in Selbysport, he was a son of the late Jefferson and Hannah (Meyers) Lowdermilk. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Beulah (Umbel) Lowdermilk, on March 27, 1984, and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was a member of the Asher Glade Church of the Brethren. He was owner and operator of Lowdermilk Trucking Co. He was a past president of Farmers' Wildlife Association of Asher Glade, and was a past member of the Board of Directors of Liberty Trust Co. (now Keystone Financial). He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include one son, Wilbur G. Lowdermilk Jr., Friendsville; two daughters, Shirley A. Rusnack, Connellsville, Pa., and Vonda J. Bryner, Friendsville; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville. A service was conducted at the Asher Glade Church of the Brethren earlier today, April 20, with the Rev. Samuel Moon officiating. Interment was in the Sand Spring Cemetery.
Graveside military rites were accorded by members of the area veterans service organizations.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association.
GARRY A. SCHMIDT
Garry Austin Schmidt, 38, Baltimore, formerly of Horse Shoe Run, W.Va., died Saturday, April 15, 2000.
Born Nov. 20, 1961, he was a son of Austin and Thelma Schmidt.
Survivors include two brothers, Bradley D. Schmidt and Kenneth R. Schmidt; and two sisters, Jill S. Slaubaugh and Christy B. Schmidt.
The body has been donated to the Human Gift Registry for medical or scientific studies.
A memorial service will be conducted at St. John's Lutheran Church, Red House, at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 29.
JOHN A. PRATT
John A. Pratt, 71, Frostburg, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born April 6, 1929, in Kitzmiller, he was a son of the late Pietro and Michelina (Secoli) Pratt. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Peter Pratt, and a sister, Lorraine Cullen.
He retired from Marriott Dining Services at Frostburg State University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg, the Farrady Post 24 American Legion, and the Midland Sportsmen's Club.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Mary JoAnn (Clark) Filer Pratt; three daughters, Mary Pratt-Heneghan, Bowie, Beth Ann (Filer) Clark, Morgantown, W.Va., and Tammy (Filer) McAteer, Frostburg; seven sisters, Anna Pratt, Rose Pratt, and Virginia Pratt, all of Eckhart, Nancy Scarpelli, Frostburg, Margaret Quartucci, Cresaptown, Florine McGowan, Shaft, and Joan Wilson, LaVale; and three grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg. A funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, April 18, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Fr. Paul Byrnes as celebrant. A prayer service was conducted Monday evening at the funeral home.
Interment was in Frostburg Memorial Park. Farrady Post 24 American Legion Honor Guard accorded military honors at the cemetery.
ROBERT D. MCKEAN
Robert Daniel McKean, 76, Phoenix, Ore., died Jan. 10, 2000, in Medford, Ore.
Born April 9, 1923, in Kitzmiller, he was the son of the late Robert and Minnie (Beals) McKean.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia (Clair) McKean; one son, Robert John McKean, San Jose, Calif.; and one sister, Jean Sollars, Kitzmiller.
A graveside memorial service was conducted Wednesday, April 19, at the IOOF Cemetery, Elk Garden, W.Va., with the Rev. Donald Nelson officiating.
Local arrangements were under the direction of the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller.
DR. JOHN J. DORMIO
Dr. John J. Dormio, 76, Frostburg, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home, where he had been a resident.
Born Jan. 1, 1924, in Frostburg, he was a son of the late Angelo and Raffaela (Tavernese) Dormio. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Price) Dormio, on Sept. 9, 1989; two sisters, Flora Lowery and Ida Grable; and five brothers, Vito, Frank, Joseph, Albert, and Raymond Dormio.
He was a veteran of World War II. He served three years with the 3rd Armored Division in the European Theatre of Operations and was decorated with the Bronze Star, Purple Heart with four clusters, and the Presidential Unit Citation. He was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church, LaVale, and Farrady Post 24 American Legion.
He attended the national College of Chiropractic at Chicago, Ill., and graduated summa cum laude in 1951 with doctor of chiropractic and physical therapist degrees.
He attended Frostburg State College and graduated cum laude with a B.S. degree in 1966 with a major in psychology. He received his degree in master of education in May 1972. He practiced in Grantsville from 1951 until 1962 and later was a professor at FSU. He retired from the state of Maryland in 1985 as a juvenile probation officer.
In 1962 he planned and originated the medical secretary's course at Catherman's Business School, Cumberland, and taught a combined anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology course at Catherman's.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends were received at the Sowers Funeral Home, Frostburg, where a service was conducted Tuesday, April 18, with the Rev. LeRoy S. Capper officiating. Interment followed in Frostburg Memorial Park, where graveside military rites were accorded by members of Farrady Post 24 American Legion.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Faith Presbyterian Church, 103 Mustophal Drive, LaVale, or Frostburg Village Nursing Home, 12 Kaylor Circle, Frostburg.
CHESTER M. MILLER JR.
Chester Martin Miller Jr., 71, Grantsville, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born May 14, 1928, in Cumberland, he was a son of the late Chester M. Miller Sr. and Juanita (Sharon) Miller. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ellen Miller, in 1988; three brothers, Donald S. Miller, Robert Miller, and Orville Miller; and three sisters, Doris Berg, Virginia E. Bennett, and Wanda Lee Nave.
He retired after 25 years of service in the military. He served in the Philippines and the invasion of Japan. He was a former employee of W.T. Grants, Cumberland. He attended Allegany Community College, was a member of Grace Brethren Church, and the Air Force Sergeants' Association.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy J. Miller; two sons, Ricky R. Miller, Clyde, Texas, and Chester M. Miller III, Baltimore; one daughter, Diane Morris, Oldtown; three brothers, Roy Miller and Ray Miller, both of Cumberland, and Dale Miller, Arkansas; five sisters, Jean Rice, Eleanor Bernard, and Romaine P. Sherman, and Joyce K. Nixon, all of Cumberland, and G. Kay Williamson, Murrell's Inlet, S.C.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Friday, from 7-9 p.m. A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, April 22, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Ray McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
