WILLIAM AUSTIN "DAD" LEYH
CUMBERLAND - William Austin "Dad" Leyh, 98, of Cumberland, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, at the Cumberland Nursing Center.
Born May 31, 1900, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Frederick and Emma (Beckwith) Leyh. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Gladys May (Giles) Leyh, on Nov. 21, 1971; one son, William F. Leyh Sr.; one daughter, Margaret V. Borror; two grandsons, Steven Leyh and William F. Leyh Jr.; eight brothers; and one sister.
Mr. Leyh was a retired carman for the B&O; Railroad. He retired in 1965 after 50 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen. He was also an avid gardener.
Surviving are one daughter, Dolores E. Shahan, Cumberland; one son, Ernest E. Leyh and wife, Ann, Frederick; seven grandchildren, Paul W. Borror and wife, Sherri, Bonnie J. (Borror) Price and husband, Paul, Paul L. Shahan and wife, Mary, Kevin E. Leyh, Craig S. Leyh, Warren A. Leyh and Luke M. Leyh; 10 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 10 a.m. with Fr. Milton A. Hipsley officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Cumberland.
DESSIE A. LINDNER
CUMBERLAND - Dessie Alberta Lindner, 81, of 188 N. Centre St., Cumberland, died Monday, April 12, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born April 18, 1917, in Oldtown, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Michael and the late Mary (Westfall) Michael. She was also preceded in death by her husband, the late John Vincent Lindner, on July 24, 1995; six brothers, Pat Michael, Oliver Michael, Fred Michael, Wesley Michael, Vernon Michael and George Michael; and a sister, Delphi Parker. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Lindner was the retired owner/operator of Alberta's Beauty Salon. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Woodmen of the World, Sodality of St. Patrick's and Eucharistic Minister and SSND Associates.
Surviving are an adopted sister, Mary Turbin, Cumberland; a foster son, C. Edward O'Donnell and wife, Secreta, Cumberland; a foster daughter, Catherine Lucas and husband, Christopher, Winchester, Va.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
A Wake Service will be held Tuesday evening at 8:30 p.m. with Deacon Francis Werner officiating.
HELEN M. KEIFER
CRESAPTOWN - Helen M. (Hammond) Keifer, 90, of Cresaptown, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, in the loving home of her daughter.
Born June 7, 1908, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Mae (Schyrock) Hammond. She was also preceded in death by her husband, DeSales E. Hammond Sr.
Mrs. Keifer had worked for Carl McIntyre's Market. She then operated the Bowling Green Grocery with her husband.
She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Willalea Martin and husband, Ronald, with whom she resided; two sons, DeSales E. Keifer Jr. and wife, Mary, Potomac Park, and John Keifer and wife, Kay, Cumberland; seven grandchildren, Danny Martin and wife, Missey, John Martin, Rose Thuss, and fiance Gary Uncapher, Diane McKenzie and husband, Joe, David Keifer and wife, Becky, Karissa Johnson and husband, Mike, and Tisa Keifer, all of Cumberland; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The Rosary will be recited at the funeral home on Wednesday at 8:45 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Reginald Russo, O.F.M., Cap., as celebrant.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

SHERRY A. LIEDIGK
TOLEDO, Ohio - Sherry A. (Poland) Liedigk, 63, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at the St. Vincent Medical Center after becoming ill at home.
Born in Frostburg, Md., Nov. 1, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Florence A. Poland and the late John S. and Lula F. Poland, her adoptive parents.
She was a graduate of Beall High School, class of 1953, and retired from Hunt-Wesson Foods where she was employed in Quality Control.
She was Presbyterian by faith.
Surviving are her husband, Donald J. Liedigk; a daughter, Sherri L. (Mike) Wojton; a son, Steve Liedigk; a grandson, Aaron Wojton; two brothers, Marshall W. (Norma) Poland, Reisterstown, Md., Glenn D. (Virginia) Poland, Baltimore; and a sister, June Rank, Frostburg.
Services were held May 15, 1999, at the Abele Funeral Home, Toledo.
At her request, the body was cremated.
BIRTSELL B. HALLER
CUMBERLAND - Birtsell Bryan Haller, 87, of 213 E. Mary St., Cumberland, died Friday, July 30, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born May 12, 1912, in Belington, W.Va., he was the son of the late George M. Haller and the late Laura S. Haller. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Catherine (Hillebrecht) Haller, on Oct. 30, 1995; a brother, Roy "Jack" Haller; and a sister, Ethel Junkins.
Mr. Haller was retired from Kelly-Springfield Tire Company. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was a member of the United Rubber Workers Union. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II.
Surviving are a son, George Martin Haller, and wife, Joyce, Cumberland; two daughters, Nancy Lee Wakefoose, Cumberland, and Barbara Jean Fields, and husband, Benny, Baltimore; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Monday at 1 p.m. at Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with Father William Moody officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
ADRIANA E. KOHLER
LAVALE - Adriana Elizabeth Kohler, 85, of Vocke Road, LaVale, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, in the Allegany County Nursing Home.
Born April 24, 1914, in Culemborg, Holland, she was the daughter of the late Conrad and Elizabeth Borgestein Sundman. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Leroy L. Kohler; and one son, Richard Leroy Kohler.
Mrs. Kohler was a member of the Park Place United Methodist Church. An English teacher, she taught in the Elementary and Junior High School.
Surviving are one daughter, Elizabeth K. Preston, Avendel, N.J.; one sister, Catherine S. Ketcham, Clifton, N.J.; one sister-in-law, Betty Kohler and her son Douglas, Brunswick, N.J.; and three grandchildren.
At Mrs. Kohler's request, her body was cremated.
Services will be conducted in the chapel of the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap on Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Lee Brotemarkle officiating.
Inurnment will follow.
