KATHLEEN A. "LOVEY" KIRBY (BEAL)
ELLERSLIE - Kathleen Alice "Lovey" Kirby, 85, of 14227 Gardner Ave., Ellerslie, went to be with the Lord, Friday, July 30, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born June 1, 1914, in Mount Savage, she was the daughter of the late Louis Beal and the late Rebecca (Albright) Beal. She was also preceded in death by her husband, the late Rev. Raymond E. Kirby, on June 4, 1998; and several brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Kirby was the former pianist and a member at the LaVale Chapel Assembly of God.
Surviving are a son, Donald W. Kirby, and wife, Barbara, Caledonia, Mich.; a daughter, Grace M. Ringer, and husband, Robert L., Ellerslie; three grandchildren, Kathy Morrison, and husband, Tim, Columbia, S.C., Kristy Wilcox, and husband, Tim, Caledonia, and Robin Rene Ringer, Ellerslie; four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Emilee and Cameron Wilcox, Caledonia, and Kevin Morrison, Columbia, S.C.; a brother, Benjamin "Bennie" Beal, Mount Savage; and four sisters, Ida Often Keel, Clara Kennell, Hilda Twigg, all of Mount Savage, and Elizabeth Blank, Rawlings.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the LaVale Chapel Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Stephen M. Schuessler officiating. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m.
Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
ALICE "DUTCH" HARDEN
MORANTOWN - Alice "Dutch" Harden, 80, of Morantown, died Tuesday, April 20, 1999, at Devlin Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland.
Born Feb. 22, 1919, in Eckhart, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Mary Edna (Logsdon) Steele. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John "Pappy" Harden; one son, James Harden; five brothers; and two sisters.
Mrs. Harden was a member of Eckhart United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, John Harden and wife, Sue Ann, Frostburg, and Ronald Harden, at home; one grandson, Steven Harden and wife, Amanda, Frostburg; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Martha "Margie" Wright, Eckhart; a sister-in-law, Fran Steele, Wilmington, N.C.; one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Harden, Eckhart; and her best friend, Linda Harden, Morantown.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating.
Interment will be in Eckhart Cemetery.
OLIVER BENJAMIN KIDWELL JR.
CUMBERLAND - Oliver Benjamin Kidwell Jr., 77, formerly of 433 Independence St., Cumberland, and residing at Devlin Manor Nursing Home, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 28, 1921, in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Oliver Benjamin Kidwell Sr. and the late Lona (McDonald) Kidwell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Teresa D. Kidwell, on Jan. 4, 1998.
Mr. Kidwell was a salesman for Montgomery Ward Company, and was self employed as a carpet installer. He was a member of Fort Cumberland Post #13 American Legion and Henry Hart Post #1411 V.F.W. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II.
Surviving are two daughters, Katherine A. McDermott and husband, Lawrence, Fairfax, Va., and Olivia Atkinson and husband, Rick, Ridgeley, W.Va.; two sisters, Anna Lee Bartlowe, Martinsburg, W.Va., and Phyllis Mercer, New Cumberland, Pa.; and three grandchildren, Lureta McDermott, Summer Atkinson and Ashley Atkinson.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with the Rev. Tom Landaker officiating.
Interment will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
HARRY B. LEWIS SR.
ECKHART - Harry B. Lewis Sr., 83, formerly of 10403 Eckhart Mines St., SW, Eckhart, died Saturday, July 24, 1999, at the St. Vincent de Paul Nursing Center.
Born June 29, 1916, in Eckhart, he was the son of the late Samuel and Annie (Barnard) Lewis. He also was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. He was the last survivor of his immediate family.
Mr. Lewis was a retired powder machinist for the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Farrady Post 24 American Legion.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Mary U. (Chabot) Lewis; two sons, Thomas Lewis and wife Joanne, Frostburg, and Harry Lewis Jr., Eckhart; three daughters, Harriet Lewis, Columbia, Md., Joanne (Lewis) Kamauff, Eckhart, and Judith-Sharon (Lewis) Poland and husband William, Keyser, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass for the Departed will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Father William Moody as celebrant, followed by military honors accorded by Farrady Post 24 Honor Guard.
In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Lewis will be cremated with inurnment in the Parish Cemetery.
RUTH G. HARDEN (HOWE)
CUMBERLAND - Ruth Grace (Howe) Harden, 92, of Bridgewater, Va., formerly of Cumberland, died Saturday, July 31, 1999, at the Bridgewater Retirement Village.
Born Feb. 6, 1907, in Philadelphia, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Alfred Edward and Mary (Harlan) Howe. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Samuel Harden, on March 18, 1986, and also nine brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Harden was a secretary and homemaker. She was the deacon emeritus of the Living Stone Church of the Brethren and served as treasurer of the women's fellowship.
Surviving are three daughters, Jean Harden Simmons, Harrisonburg, Va.; Joyce Harden Ringler, Fort Mill, S.C.; Ginger Harden Hogue, Reston, Va.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, on Saturday from 12 to 1 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Timothy Monn officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Living Stone Church of the Brethren Building Fund.
PAUL V. HARDIN
CUMBERLAND - Paul V. "Whitey" Hardin, of Old Towne Manor, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at the Allegany County Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 5, 1914, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late George and Mary Frances Hardin. He was also preceded in death by one son, Gary Hardin; three brothers; and four sisters.
Mr. Hardin was a retired locomotive engineer from the B&O; and CSX railroads. He was a member of Golden Age Eagle of FOE 245, Cumberland.
Surviving are his wife, Olive, Old Town Manor; two daughters, Paula Coats and husband, Robert, St. Augustine, Fla., Sandra Mackereth and husband, Okey, Oldtown; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, James, Newport News, Va., Richard and wife, Kaye, Baltimore; two sisters, Kathleen Schuyler, Chester, Va., and Marion King; and a number of nieces and nephews.
At his request, Mr. Hardin was a anatomical donor.
GEORGE E. JONES
CUMBERLAND - George Eddie Jones, 65, of Cumberland, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at the Martinsburg V.A. Center.
Born April 22, 1934, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late George B. and Nellie A. (Clay) Jones. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Janet M. Czerwinski; and one brother, Robert L. Jones.
Mr. Jones was a retired security guard in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are three sisters, Shirley J. Morgan and husband, Robert "Rags", Mt. Savage, Doris L. Nield and husband, Richard, Wiley Ford, W.Va., Mary L. Daley and husband, James, Lorton, Va.; two brothers, James T. Jones and James T. Lehman, both of Fort Lauderdale; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap, Friday at 1 p.m. with the Veterans Chaplain Charles Griffith, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
