JEAN MARIE HARMAN
CUMBERLAND - Jean Marie Harman, 51, of Cumberland, died Saturday, June 26, 1999, at Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit, Cumberland.
Born Nov. 1, 1947, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late William Austin and Mildred A. (Powell) Green. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ray Harman, in 1979.
Mrs. Harman was a homemaker.
Surviving are her fiance, William C. Walter; three daughters, Tammy A. Burt and husband, William, Clinton, Tenn., Christine M. Warnick, Cumberland, Peggy Emerick and husband, Kevin, Clinton; one brother, William A. Green Jr., Cumberland; and four grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with Chaplain Diane Smith officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Family requests contributions be made to the Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit.
WILLIAM H. LASHLEY
MOUNT SAVAGE - William H. Lashley, age 77, of 13010 Yellow Row Road, Mount Savage, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Nov. 29, 1921, in Mount Savage, he was the son of the late Benjamin H. and Lillie M. (Norris) Lashley. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Milton, Charles and Benjamin R. Lashley.
Mr. Lashley was a former employee of the Mount Savage Refractory, the V.F.W. Old Rail Post #6025, Mount Savage, and retired from the Mount Savage Post Office as the first rural route carrier after 28 years of service.
Mr. Lashley was a U.S. Army veteran having served with the Company B 301st Engineers C Battalion during World War II. He was a member of the Mount Savage United Methodist Church, the National Rural Letter Carriers Association, and was a life member of the Old Rail Post #6025 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mount Savage.
Surviving are eight sisters, Mary D. Lashley and Lillie M. Lashley, with whom he resided, Leona Felker and husband, Clarence, Mount Savage, Pluma M. Dom, Wellersburg, Pa., Sarah A. Friend, Cresaptown, Betty Zimmerman and husband, Frank, Solon, Ohio, Ruth Harden and husband, John, Whitesboro, N.Y., and Etta Malloy and husband, Thomas, Savage; three brothers, Randolph Lashley, Mount Savage, Robert Lashley and wife Ruth, Frostburg, and Elmer Lashley and wife, Shirley, Cumberland; one sister-in-law, Betty G. Lashley, Mount Savage; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard C. Broome Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in the Methodist Cemetery, Mount Savage.
Military Honors will be accorded at graveside by Old Rail Post #6025 V.F.W. Honor Guard.
LAVERNE S. KEYSER (SMITH)
MILFORD, Del. - LaVerne S. Keyser, 92, formerly of Cumberland, Md., died Saturday, July 31, 1999, at the Yoders Care Center, Milford.
Born on Oct. 4, 1906, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late George E. Smith and Selena (Davis) Smith. Her husband, Charles R. "Tubby" Keyser, died March 12, 1992. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Keyser was a graduate of Allegany High School class of 1926, and was a member of Centre Street United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Sonja Decker, and husband, Hoyte Jr., Rehobeth Beach, Del.; one granddaughter, Catherine B. Decker, at home; two step-grandchildren, Robyn D. Pirone, Eldersburg, Md., and Hoyte B. Decker III, Outer Banks, N.C.
Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William H. Bice officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be from the United Methodist Men's Club of Centre Street United Methodist Church.
The family has requested that memorials take the form of donations to Centre Street United Methodist Church.
MARY E. HARMAN
GRANTSVILLE - Mary Edith Harman, 62, of 891 Dorsey Hotel Road, Grantsville, and formerly of Accident, died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Dec. 29, 1936, in Accident, she was a daughter of the late Elwood and Beatrice (Resh) Glotfelty. She was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Klotz.
Mrs. Harman was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Accident, a former member of the ladies aid, and a former member of the Cove Homemakers Club. She was a 4-H All Star and was selected as Garrett County Farm Queen in 1953. She was a 1957 graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park.
Survivors include a son, Keith E. Harman, Accident; a daughter, Jeanette L. Wampler, Accident; a brother, James Glotfelty, Accident; three sisters, Harriett Buckel, Grantsville, Alberta Nolder, Baltimore, Bernadette Henson, St. Albans, W.Va.; and five grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Wilfred Karsten officiating.
Interment will be in Bittinger Cemetery, Bittinger.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to either Zion Lutheran Church or to Hospice of Garrett County.
DOROTHY F. JOHNSON
FROSTBURG - Dorothy Fay Johnson, 86, of the St. Vincent de Paul Nursing Center, Frostburg, formerly of Front Royal, Va., died Monday, July 12, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 3, 1912, in Grafton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Dennis Howard and Lilia (Day) Springer.
She also was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Johnson, in 1985; one sister, Mary Ellen True; and one brother, James H. Springer.
Mrs. Johnson had worked at the Celanese Corp. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, James Johnson, Dunbar, Pa.; five daughters, Glenda Phelps, Timonium, Barbara Harper, Front Royal, Rebecca Zupic and Patricia Bierer, both of Connellsville, Pa., and Candice Johnson, Hagerstown; one brother, Richard Springer, Florida; one sister, Lorna Michael, Cumberland; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A committal service will be held at the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chad Ricker, Jason Ricker, Gary Ricker, Robert Phelps, Danny Bierer and Richard Zupic.
E. LORRAINE JONES
FREDERICK - E. Lorraine Kreger Jones, 81, of West 7th St., Frederick, died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at her home. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Norris B. Jones in 1991; one son, Edward H. Jones; six brothers; and two sisters.
Born Sept. 12, 1918, in Confluence, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Frances E. Lingenfelter Kreger. She was raised in Cumberland and relocated to Frederick in 1957.
Mrs. Jones was a member of Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Frederick. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, devoting her life to her family and home.
Surviving are two sons, Samuel N. Jones and wife Bonnie, Frederick, and Earl Bud Jones and wife Mary Jane, Thurmont; three grandsons, Jeremy A. Jones, Matthew S. Jones, both of Frederick; and Chad D. Jones, Baltimore; one sister, Mary Ellen McNabb, Cumberland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Tuesday, Nov. 2 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted there Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 12 noon.
Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
