DEBORAH HARTMAN
CUMBERLAND - Deborah Ebel Hartman, 49, of Cumberland, died of cancer on Thursday, March 11, 1999, at her home.
Born March 8, 1950, in Northampton, Mass., she was the daughter of John Ebel and Betty (Giglio) Ebel of Northampton.
Ms. Hartman was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Smith College and received her master's degree in theology from Harvard University. She was employed as a program coordinator for the Area Health Education Center. She also served as coordinator for the Family Violence Council and was a part-time senior lecturer in philosophy at Frostburg State University. For seven years, she served as a program coordinator for Memorial Hospital Hospice. She was a member of the Society of Friends (Quaker).
Surviving in addition to her parents are a paternal grandmother, Adele Ebel, Northampton; a husband, Gene H. Gall, Cumberland; a son, Seth Hartman Gall, Pittsburgh; a daughter, Kate Hartman Gall, a student at Providence College, Providence, R.I.; a brother, John Ebel, Simsbury, Conn.; and a sister, Lois Ebel, Jamaica Plain, Mass.
Friends will be received at the Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Cumberland, on Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
An Ecumenical Celebration will be conducted at Holy Cross Episcopal Church on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Arthur R. Lillicropp officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Family Violence Council, c/o The Family Crisis Resource Center, 138 N. Mechanic St., Cumberland, MD 21502, Attention: Carolyn Grahame.
Ms. Hartman's remains were cremated at the Cumberland Crematory, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland.

MARGARET V. HARTMAN
CUMBERLAND - Margaret V. (Trost) Hartman, 88, of Cumberland, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 19, 1910, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late John Joseph and Effie Viola (Harden) Trost. She also was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Edwin B. Hartman, on Dec. 16, 1989; an infant daughter, Evelyn Roberta Hartman, in October 1927; one son, Edwin Donald Hartman on April 19, 1995; one granddaughter, Patricia Faulkingham Hudnall, on Jan. 20, 1997; two brothers; and three sisters.
Mrs. Hartman and her husband were owners of Hartman's Grocery on Valley Road for 25 years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Bowman's Addition Fire Company, and a member of the Bedford Road Baptist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Betty L. Powers and husband, Paul, Cumberland, Patricia A. VanPelt and husband, Kermit, Eatontown, N.J., and Bonnie J. Wilson and husband, Ersel ``Buzz,'' Cumberland; one daughter-in-law, Linda M. Hartman, Cumberland; 18 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Bedford Road Baptist Church on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Denny Michael, the Rev. Meredith C. Schryock, and Pastor Bruce Baugus officiating. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

MELVIN K. JAMES
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Melvin Kermit James, 76, of Clarksville, Tenn., went home to be with his Lord, Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at the Clarksville Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 28, 1922, in Gilmore, Md., he was the son of the late Thomas James and Louise (Statler) James. He also was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Junior James.
Mr. James served overseas in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a firefighter on base at Fort Campbell, Ky., where he retired after 30 years service. Mr. James was a member of the Provident United Methodist Church in Clarksville. He was a member of the Moose and the American Government Federal Employees.
Surviving are his wife, Reva (Choatie) James; two sons, Thomas H. James and wife Linda, Barton, and Melvin James, Clarksville, Tenn.; one stepdaughter, Kathy Patton, Clarksville, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Tim Beckett, Charity, Patrick and Kyle James, Clarksville, Tenn., Aaron T. James, Barton, Md., and Heather McConnell and husband John, Hyde Park, N.Y.; two sisters, Margaurite Rayner, Gilmore; Worlene Rogish, Midland, Md.; two brothers, John James and wife Beverly, Homestead, Fla., and Raymond James and wife Shirley, Oxon Hill, Md.; and sister-in-law, Ellen James, Gilmore, Md.
The McReynolds-Nave Funeral Home, Clarksville, Tenn., was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were chosen from fellow firefighters.
VANCE W. HARTSOCK
FLINTSTONE - Vance Williams Hartsock, 96, formerly of R.F.D. 1, Box 188, Flintstone, and residing at the Cumberland Nursing Home for the past four years, died Saturday, June 26, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born June 29, 1902, in Everett, Pa., she was the daughter of the late James Williams and the late Minnie (Akers) Williams. She was also preceded in death by her husband, the late Lewis Hartsock, in 1958; a son, Lee W. Hartsock, in 1997; and several brothers and sisters. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Hartsock was a member of Prosperity United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son, James Hartsock and wife, Joan, College Park; a step-daughter, E. Louise Kolb, Bethesda; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. only.
Services will be conducted on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with the Rev. Fred Iser and the Rev. Glenn Jones officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

ANNA J. LLEWELLYN
FROSTBURG - Anna Jean Llewellyn, 68, of Frostburg, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at St. Vincent de Paul Nursing Center.
Born Sept. 7, 1930, in Lonaconing, she was the daughter of the late Perry and Lula (Kyle) Beeman.
Mrs. Llewellyn had been a secretary at Boettner & Boettner Insurance and at Failinger Contracting. She was a member of the Frostburg United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher.
Surviving are her husband, Raymond; one son, Stephen Llewellyn, Eckhart; one daughter, Barbara Stevens and husband Kenneth, Frostburg; two grandchildren, Melissa and Eric Stevens; one sister, Helen Blassingame, St. Petersburg, Fla.; her stepmother, Alma (Llewellyn) Beeman, Barton; and one half brother, Donald Beeman and wife Claudia, Barton.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. George A. Aist officiating.
Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

HIAWATHA F. HARVEY
LONACONING - Hiawatha F. Harvey, 88, formerly of Main Street, Lonaconing, died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland, where he had been a resident.
Born April 10, 1910, at Vindex, Md., he was a son of the late Albert and Betty (Smith) Harvey.
He is survived by one sister, Bessie K. Harvey, Bradenton, Fla.; five nieces, Betty McCurdy, Bradenton, Lula Belle Ziegler, Harrisonburg, Va., Jessie Richter, Gainesville, Fla., Betty Ann Israel, Waverly, Va., Carolyn Jezierski, Berryville, Va.; three nephews, John Huston, Bradenton, Herman Fickes, Finzel, and Russell McRobie, Westernport.
Friends will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Wednesday, Feb. 24, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the Chapel on Thursday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Gary Ziegler officiating.
Interment will be in the Mount Zion Cemetery, Swanton.
