EDNA C. HOUDERSHELDT
WINCHESTER, Va. - Edna Carol Houdersheldt, age 55, of 147 Gregory Lane, Winchester, died Friday, June 18, 1999, in the Winchester Medical Center.
Ms. Houdersheldt was born on Sept. 8, 1943, in Cumberland, Md., the daughter of the late Hayse Edward and Clara Marie See.
She had been employed with Lear Corporation of Strasburg, Va., for 10 years.
Surviving are Arturo G. Paniagua, with whom she made her home; two sons, William H. "Bill" Houdersheldt, Winchester, and Steven L. Houdersheldt, Bunker Hill, W.Va.; one daughter, Karen S. McFillen, Winchester; four grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Miller, Ridgeley, W.Va., Donna Spencer and Rosann Park, both of Cumberland, Md.; two brothers, Forrest See, Shrewsbury, Pa., and Harold See, Cumberland; and her former husband, Richard "Dick" Houdersheldt, Bunker Hill, W.Va.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday at Omps Funeral Home with the Rev. Joseph Eversole officiating.
Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Ramon Paniagua, Wayne Robinette, Louis Aldridge, Mark Robinette, Charles Owens and Elwood Payne.
The family will receive friends at Omps Funeral Home on Sunday evening from t p.m. until 9 p.m.
HELEN I. KELLER
ACCIDENT - Helen Irene Keller, 77, of 39 Keller Road, Accident, died Monday, April 5, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Nov. 12, 1921, in Hoyes, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Vesta (Beeghly) Coddington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Luther Keller, July 24, 1997.
Mrs. Keller was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she sang in the church choir, was a Sunday School teacher and member of W.E.L.C.A. She also sang in the Accident Community Choir. A member of the Garrett County Historical Society and the Northern Garrett County Republican Women's Club, she also volunteered for the Lutheran Braille Workers.
She is survived by a son, George Keller, and a daughter, Linda Burch, both of Accident; three brothers, Leo Coddington, Oakland; Raymond Coddington, Accident; Donald Coddington, Circleville, Ohio; three sisters, Gladys Savage, McHenry; Betty Rittenhouse, Friendsville; Jean Mettscher, Fort Myers, Fla. and five grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, P.A., McHenry, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roland E. Nairn III, officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to St. Paul's Building Fund.
DANIEL E. JONES
WINCHESTER, Va. - Daniel E. Jones, 59, of Winchester, formerly of Cumberland, Md., died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at home.
He was born on Nov. 30, 1939, the son of the late Ralph Jones and Daisy (Eckard) Jones. He was also preceded in death by his sister Norma Yetter.
He is survived by his wife, Dotty Jones; one brother, Raymond R. Jones and wife, Sharon, Ridgeley, W.Va.; two sisters, Mary Jane Weimer and husband, Joe, Cumberland, and Eileen Pitt, Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Jones Funeral Home, Pleasant Valley Road, Winchester, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
At his request his body will be cremated, and there will be no memorial services.
SARAH B. LEWIS
CUMBERLAND - Sarah B. Lewis, 87, of Cumberland, died Friday, April 16, 1999, at Lions Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland.
Born Feb. 16, 1912, in Moorefield, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William and Feebee Lloyd. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry W. Lewis; and one brother, Jacob Lloyd.
Mrs. Lewis was a homemaker. She was a member of Grace Brethren Church.
Surviving are one foster daughter, Ethel M. (Iser) Lewis and husband, Carlson, Ellerslie; two foster grandchildren, Sandra Zais, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Larry Lewis, Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Raymond McCoy officiating.
Interment will be in Mount Herman Cemetery, Cumberland.
JOHN FRANK HOUSE
CUMBERLAND - John Frank House, 71, of Cumberland Nursing Home, formerly of Harrison Street, died Tuesday, May 18, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 5, 1927, in Cumberland, he was the son of John J. House, Oldtown, and the late Florence M. (Humbertson) House. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lena M. House.
Mr. House was retired from the Washington County Board of Education. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus #586, Cumberland Eagles #245, and a social member of the American Legion, Fort Cumberland Post #13.
In addition to his father, surviving are three sons, James J. House and wife, Nancy, Baltimore, Charles P. House and Vicki, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Glen R. House and wife, Cathy, Houstontown, Pa.; three daughters, Lena Marie Waite and husband, Kenny, Houstontown, Margaret Crawford, Cumberland, and Carolyn Montgomery and husband, Danny, Houstontown; two brothers, William M. House and wife, Marrietta, Clear Spring, Duane House and wife, Judy, Oldtown; two sisters, Mary Margaret Price, Bedford, Pa., and Pauline Conley and husband, David, North Carolina; and a number of grandchildren.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be conducted at the funeral home Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Friday at noon with Fr. Vance Pastorius, O.F.M., Cap. as celebrant.
Interment will be in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
MARY F. LOAR
ECKHART - Mary Frances (Meek) Loar, 75, of Parkersburg Road, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, in Frostburg at the home of her sisters with whom she was residing.
Born May 23, 1924, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Stewart and Amy (Brain) Meek.
Mrs. Loar attended Hill Street School and Old Beall High School, and in 1942 she was the first full-year senior class to graduate from the "new" Beall High School on Eckhart Flat. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Frostburg State Teachers' College and did post-graduate work through the Univ. of Maryland.
She was a substitute teacher in several schools while attending college due to the shortage of teachers during the war. Years later, she would again be a substitute teacher in many schools in Allegany County.
Mrs. Loar retired after teaching for 17 years. Her first year was at the Jennings School in Garrett County, where she taught first through third grade. Her second year of teaching was at Johnson Heights, Cumberland, where she continued for 16 years. She resigned in 1962 because of ill health.
She was a member of the Frostburg United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She taught Sunday school for over 15 years, sang in the Junior Choir for evening church services for many years, taught Vacation Bible School, belonged to the Epworth Fellowship, and the Martha Circle of the United Methodist Women.
She also was a Girl Scout Leader for several years, member of the Allegany Co. Ornithological Society, helped as a volunteer leader for the Bird Club Summer Camp held at Pleasant Valley in the early 1950s, formerly belonged to the Cumberland Business and Professional Women's Association, and former member of the Midlothian Homemakers Association.
Surviving are her husband of 45 years, James H. Loar, Eckhart; a stepdaughter, Susan Loar Richie, Eckhart; a step-granddaughter, Elizabeth Reed and husband, David, Eckhart; a step-great-grandson, James Buckalew; two sisters, Martha and Amy Meek, Frostburg; a sister-in-law, Olive Loar Wilson, Frostburg; two nieces, Marnie Sue Milburn and husband, Ray, and Meredythe Ross; and two nephews, Otto Ross and wife, Katie, and Michael Ross and wife, Chrissy.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Darryl Gill, officiating.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park, Frostburg.
