DR. KENNETH E. KLOSTERMAN
LAVALE - Dr. Kenneth E. Klosterman, 60, of LaVale, died Sunday, June 6, 1999, in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.
He was born on Aug. 22, 1938, in Solomon Island, Md., the son of the late Robert S. and Alice (Morgan) Klosterman.
Dr. Klosterman was a local Veterinarian for 30 years. He began his practice with Dr. Edwin Everhart. He opened his own practice, The LaVale Veterinary Hospital and then moved his practice to Crossroads Animal Hospital. He also had a satellite clinic in Short Gap, W.Va., known as Town & Country Veterinary Clinic.
He was a graduate of LaSalle High School. He received a B.S. degree in Chemistry and Math from Frostburg State College. He was a graduate of the University of GeorgIa, Athens, Ga., with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
He served in the U.S. Navy in the Airdale Early Warning Squadron, Key West, Fla. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, Omega Tau Sigma Fraternity, University of Georgia Alumni Association, Knights of Columbus Cumberland Council #586, and a past member of LaVale Lions Club. He attended SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Michaels) Klosterman; three sons, Ken and wife, Karen, New Market, Michael and wife, Amy, Funkstown, and Bryan, of Bel Air, Cumberland; two granddaughters, Laura Elizabeth and Megan Patricia; two brothers, David and wife, Kathy, Pompano, Fla., and Thomas and wife, Jean, Dallas, Texas; aunt Pauline Logsdon, Short Gap; uncle Lawrence Klosterman, High Point, N.C.; mother-in-law, Patricia Mendonca and husband, Bill, Sacramento, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Cecelia Kight and husband, Ted, Frostburg, Alice Turner and husband, Ed, Sacramento, Patricia Whiteman and husband, Jim, Winchester, Va.; and two brothers-in-law, Dean Michaels, Cresaptown, Leroy Michaels and wife, Doty, Oldtown; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 10, 1999, at 11 a.m. in SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Vance Pastorius as celebrant. Interment will follow in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
Parish Wake service will be held on Wednesday at 8:45 p.m. Knights of Columbus Cumberland Council #586 will participate.

CLARENCE B. KEAN SR.
CUMBERLAND - Clarence Bernard Artimus Kean Sr., 91, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, March 2, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born March 13, 1907, in Bucks County, Pa., he was the son of the late Richard Bernard Burton Kean and the late Elizabeth Hannah (Stucky) Kean. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Alverta (Kreger) Kean; two brothers, Vernon John William Kane and Lloyd Eston Thomas Kean.
Mr. Kean was a 1926 graduate of Lewistown High School and attended Penn State University from 1926 to 1928 as a chemical engineering student. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Kelly-Springfield Bowling League and the Cumberland Engineers Society.
In July 1933, he moved to Cumberland and started working at the Celanese in the Special Research Department. When that department closed at the beginning of the war, he found employment at the Kelly-Springfield Engineering Co. manufacturing ammunition for the war effort. When the company recovered to tire manufacturing, he was transferred to the development department staff of the Kelly-Springfield Tire Co. as a chemist/compounder, a position he held until he retired in 1971.
Surviving are one son, Clarence Bernard Artimus Kean Jr., with whom he resided for many years; and three nieces, Carol Joan (Kean) Schuman, Nancy Catherine (Kean) Brush, and Connie June (Kean) Crawford, all of the Baltimore area.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Thursday from noon to 1 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Thursday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Mark C. Dill officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Himmler, Jim Warner, Charles Weisinmiller, Jim Grahame, Mike Miller and Harold Lynch. Honorary pallbearers will be James Baldwin and William C. Suter.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of the donor's choice.
LAWRENCE J. KUHLMAN
LAVALE - Lawrence Joseph Kuhlman, 62, of LaVale, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born May 2, 1936, in Mount Savage, he was the son of Ursula L. (Martz) Kuhlman, LaVale, and the late William Lawrence Kuhlman.
Mr. Kuhlman retired in 1979 from the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company where he had worked in the distribution center.
Mr. Kuhlman was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Cumberland, F.O.E. #2883, Cresaptown, and the Haystack Mountain Sportsman's Club.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Sharon (Klosterman) Kuhlman; two daughters, Kim Allamong, Winchester, Va., and Jackie Dicken and husband, Mike, LaVale; two sisters, Lillian L. Gelner and husband, Fred, Fayetteville, N.C., and Ursula Joan Whitman and husband, John, Flintstone; three grandchildren, Dennis Blauch, Chasity Dicken and Jasmine Dicken; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at the funeral home on Wednesday at 8:45 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Vance Pastorius, O.F.M., Cap., officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers are Mike Dicken, Lonnie Athey, Ron Bertolina, Chris Kidwell, Pat Kidwell and Floyd Kaylor III. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Dennis Blauch, grandson.
LEO H. HOVATTER
FROSTBURG - Leo Harold "Tag" Hovatter, 80, of the Frostburg Village Nursing Home, formerly of Hilltop Drive, Cumberland, died Monday, March 1, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Jan. 9, 1919, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Dr. Ward and Margaret (Kenney) Hovatter. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Lucille Hovatter; and one daughter, Susan Kay Stevens.
Mr. Hovatter was a passenger engineer for Amtrack and retired as an engineer from the B&O; and Chessie System Railroad. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and served as a train engineer during the war. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 586, VFW Henry Hart Post 1411, American Legion Fort Cumberland Post 13, and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
Surviving are two sons, Christopher Leo Hovatter and wife Alice, Frostburg, and Stephen Duane Hovatter, Willard, Ohio; two brothers, James Jerome Hovatter, Forest Lake, Minn., Howard O. Hovatter and wife Patricia, Cumberland; and four grandchildren, Christopher Michael Stevens, Jessica Lynne Hovatter, Cody Christopher Hovatter and Alexander Michael Hovatter.

ROBERT L. LYONS
Kitzmiller - Robert Lewis Lyons, 78, of Grantsville, formerly of Kitzmiller, died Thursday, September 2, 1999, in the Myersdale Medical Center,
Born March 4, 1921, in Elk Garden, W.Va., he was the son of the late Wesley and Margaret (Runyon) Lyons. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Mary M. (Shillingburg) Lyons.
Mr. Lyons retired from Westvaco Company. He was an Army Veteran of World War II. and was on the board of directors on the Garrett County Community Action. He was a member of the Hiram Lodge 103 and the Kitzmiller Lions Club.
He is survived by his with Ruth Fike, of Grantsville; one son, Robert Lyons, of Frederick; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.
The body is at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller. Friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Don Wilson officiating.
Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Elk Garden, W.Va.
