VIRGIL R. "JOHN" JONES
OAKLAND - Virgil R. "John" Jones, age 82, of 5243 Garrett Highway, Oakland, died Tuesday at Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
He was born Oct. 3, 1916, in Maysville, W.Va., and was a son of the late Jacob U. Jones and Gracie (Hawk) Jones. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Floyd Jones; and two great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Edna "Piddle" (Amtower) Jones; one son, Raymond Jones, Oakland; one daughter, Helen Gnegy, Gorman; three brothers, Alvin Jones, Emmett Jones and Lester Jones, all of Elk Garden, W.Va.; two sisters, Alma Weimer, Gormania, W.Va., and Ann Marie Lahman, Springfield, Ohio; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Mount Storm United Methodist Church on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Teets and the Rev. Shelba Sisler officiating.
Interment will be in the Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville, W.Va.

JOSEZETTE P. "JOESIE" HUDSON
CUMBERLAND - Josezette Patricia "Joesie" Hudson, 29, of Cumberland, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Born Dec. 6, 1969, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of John C. "Jack" Hudson, 692 Gephart Drive, Cumberland, and the late Rici Ann (Rowley) Wilson. She also was preceded in death by three uncles, Joseph P. Rowley, Donald W. Hudson and Louis J. Fabbri Sr.; one aunt, Susan Hudson; and one cousin, Louis J. Fabbri Jr.
Joesie was a 1987 graduate of Bishop Walsh High School and of Allegany College of Cumberland, Class of 1992. She was a member of Stage Left Theatre Group of Cumberland, a dancer, piano player and singer. She won the First Annual Allegany Community College Talent Show in April 1994.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her grandparents, Stella (Tiernan) and Richard R. Rowley, Cumberland; stepmother, Sandra K. (McGee) Hudson; two sisters, Krista Ashley-Megan Hudson, Kaitlin Nicole-Louise "Niki" Hudson, all of Cumberland; one stepbrother, Michael "Buddy" Taylor, Wiley Ford, W.Va.; two stepsisters, Debra K. (Taylor) Crawford, Manassas, Va., Kathlyn M. Ernewein, Callahan, Fla.; three special friends, Michael Baker, Cumberland, Debbie Tull, Ridgeley, W.Va., and Amy, Hagerstown.
She was also the granddaughter of the late Margaret (Wolfe) and Calvin R. Hudson, Cumberland; and the step-granddaughter of the late Katherine (Smith) and James C. McGee, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne R. Turner officiating. Miss Hudson's body will be cremated and her ashes will be interred in Greenmount cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association or to the Margaret Hudson Scholarship Fund, c/o St. Mary's Catholic Church, Oldtown Road, Cumberland, MD 21502.
KENNETH E. HUFF
CUMBERLAND - Kenneth E. Huff, 69, of Old Towne Manor Apartments, Cumberland, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 21, 1930, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Walker Sanford and Madeline (Clites) Huff. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Louise Huff; and one son, Ronnie C. Huff.
Mr. Huff was retired from Fort Hill High School. He was Protestant by faith.
Surviving are one daughter, Julie L. Huff, Cumberland; six sons, Kenneth L. Huff, Walker E. Huff and wife Carolyn, David W. Huff and wife Judy, Steve L. Huff, James L. Huff, and Lloyd F. Huff and wife Virginia, all of Cumberland; one daughter-in-law, Louise Huff; one sister, Deloris Glenser and husband Richard, Cumberland; two brothers, Richard Huff and wife Rosalie, Cumberland, and Lee Huff and wife Vina, North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Brian, Candi, Lorelei, Tranea, Ronee, Calvin, Jason and Melinda Huff; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ken L. Korns officiating.
Interment will be in the Davis Memorial Cemetery, Cumberland.
MARGUERITE HUFF
CUMBERLAND - Marguerite "Mrs. Mac" McQuown Huff, 93, of Cumberland, died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at the Allegany County Nursing Home.
Born in Kentucky in 1905, Mrs. Huff was active in the Red Cross, the Democratic Women's Association and was the operator of Western Union in the former Fort Cumberland Hotel.
Mrs. Huff was preceded in death by three former husbands, Leo C. Brannon Sr., Jim McQuown and Walter Huff and her daughter-in-law, Barbara Brannon.
Surviving are a son, Leo C. Brannon Jr. of Baltimore; one sister, Kathryn Cutshaw, Lexington, Ky.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
HELEN A. HUGHES
MIDLAND - Helen Agnes Cain Hughes, 80, of 19814 Big Lane, Midland, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born at Vale Summit on Oct. 22, 1918, she was a daughter of the late James Henry Cain and Annie (Leake) Cain. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Francis Joseph Hughes, in 1961. Also preceding her in death were four brothers, David Melvin ``Pat'' Cain, John Cain, Thomas Cain, James Leonard Cain; and one sister, Naomi Cain Joyce. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was the retired Postmistress of Midland Post Office, 1966-1986, a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Midland, and the Sodality of the church.
She is survived by three sons, Joseph Francis Hughes and wife, Valli, Kensington, James Leonard Hughes and wife, Susan, Frostburg, John William Hughes and wife, Peggy, Cumberland; four grandchildren, Kristofer, Todd, John and Michael; and one great-grandchild, Elizabeth.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., 8 E. Main St., Lonaconing, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Midland, on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Fr. Edward S. Hendricks as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Frostburg.
A Christian Wake Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 7:30 p.m. by Sr. Joan Maenner, OSF, Pastoral Life Director, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Midland.
GEORGE W. KERNS
FROSTBURG - George William Kerns, 74, of 197 Welsh Hill, Frostburg, died June 30, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Sept. 7, 1924, in Eckhart, he was the son of the late George E. and Anna (Folk) Kerns. Several brothers and sisters preceded him in death. He was the last suriving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Kerns was retired from the Celanese Corporation, and he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a Charter Member of the Liberty Christian Fellowship for 30 years, served on the Board of Trustees, and recently served as church treasurer for 14 years.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Evelyn (Sluss) Kerns; a daughter, LaDonna Kay Smearman and husband, Joe; two grandchildren, Mark Smearman and Cassandra Smearman; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends wil be received at the Durst Funeral Home, PA., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Liberty Christian Fellowship, Route 220, Cresaptown, on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the the Rev. Gary Gordon officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in the Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
