JOSEPHINE P. PRATT
CRESAPTOWN - Josephine Pascuzzi Pratt, 101, of Cresaptown, died Friday, April 2, 1999, at her home, surrounded by loved ones.
Born Nov. 9, 1897, in Brazil, South America, she was the daughter of the late Bruno and Carmella Pascuzzi.
Mrs. Pratt lived in Calabria, Italy, and immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island in 1910. She was married
to Michael Pratt Aug. 25, 1912, for 64 years until his death in 1977. She was the oldest living member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Cresaptown.
Surviving are seven sons, Frederick Pratt, Oakland, Thomas Pratt and wife Phyllis, Cresaptown, Augustus Pratt, Inkster, Mich., Dominic Pratt, Swanton, Carl Pratt and wife Lois, Brandywine, Md., Michael Pratt and wife Louise, Romulus, Mich., and Louis Pratt and wife Ann, Cresaptown; two daughters, Ethel Lease, Cresaptown, and Mary Barrett and husband Clyde, Spring Hill, Fla.; 36 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Rosary will be recited Saturday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be no visitation Sunday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Monday at 10 a.m. with Father Reginald Russo, O.F.M., Cap., as celebrant.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Cresaptown.
IRIS L. MILLER
CUMBERLAND - Iris Laurene Miller, 83, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Iris formerly lived on Brice Hollow Road and later at Allegany County Nursing Home.
Born July 13, 1916, in Keyser, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Anna Park. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Condy Grove Miller.
She was a member of Mount Tabor United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a son, Leonard L. Miller and wife Delores, Cumberland; a sister, Grace Bussard and husband Herman, Cumberland; four grandchildren, David Miller, Gaithersburg, Daniel Miller and wife Amber, Fort Ashby, W.Va., Debra High and husband Wally, Lonaconing, and Darren Miller and wife Teri, Oldtown; a special niece, Connie Warnick, Martinsburg, W.Va.; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and their families.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Gary Beagles officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Cash Valley Road, LaVale.
PATRICIA L. PLATT
CUMBERLAND - Patricia L. Platt, 55, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at her residence.
Born April 12, 1944, in Bunker Hill, W.Va., she was the daughter of Betty (Freeland) Lewis, of Cumberland, and Lloyd Thompson.
Mrs. Platt was the owner and operator of Precious Beginnings Day Care Center. She was Brethren by faith.
Surviving are her husband, Richard K. Platt; one daughter, Heather L. Stumbaugh, Cumberland; one son, Scott E. Stumbaugh and wife Tracy, Oldtown; one stepson, Richard E. Platt, Cumberland; two sisters, Deb Fields and husband Denny, Cumberland, and Ann Cordell, Cumberland; one stepsister, Patty Lewis, New York City; two nephews, Matthew and Jordan Fields; one niece, Alexandra Nadar; and a special friend, Chris Crabtree, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Joseph DiNicola officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
The family requests that contributions be made to the Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit.
THELMA MAE PRICE
CUMBERLAND - Thelma Mae Price, 89, of J.F.K. Apartments, Cumberland, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at the Allegany County Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 20, 1910, in Philadelphia, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Price and Catherine (Thomas) Price. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Abey, Gladys Daum and Alwyn 'Bobbie' Kuhn; and two brothers, Charles Price and the Rev. Benjamin Thomas Price. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Miss Price was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cumberland, and a member of the Highlanders of the church.
She was a graduate of Allegany High School.
She retired as Executive Director of the former B&O; Y.M.C.A. with 44 years of service. She had the honor of being the first female executive director of a railroad Y.M.C.A. in the United States.
After retiring she was a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels program for 19 years.
Surviving are three nephews, Benjamin E. Abey, Baltimore, John F. Daum, Cumberland, and Charles T. Daum, Cumberland; four nieces, Norma A. Buckley, Hagerstown, Patricia P. Ruscus, Richmond, Va., Barbara P. Wallach, Columbia, Mo., Allwyn A. Gray, Buffalo, N.Y.
Friends will be received on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home in Cumberland.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Dr. O. Morton Harris Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice, or to the First Presbyterian Church, 11 Washington St., Cumberland.
SHERMAN R. PARKER
CUMBERLAND - Sherman Robert Parker, 79, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 1, 1919, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Robert Parker and the late Carrie (Courtney) Parker; and his step mother, Ellen Parker, Keyser, W.Va. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Angela (Coker) Parker; a grandson, Eugene Coates; and two brothers, Bruce Parker and Edward Parker.
Mr. Parker was retired from the Western Maryland Railway. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and Fulton Myers Post #153 American Legion. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy D. (Powell) Parker, Cumberland; a daughter, Sara E. Coates, Cumberland; a step son, Don Meekins, Cumberland; a step daughter, Carolyn Meekins, Cumberland; a brother, Earl Parker, Buffalo, N.Y.; three step sisters, Kay Jessie, Keyser, Lisa Parker, Cumberland, and Eleanor McFarland, Keyser; a step brother, Robert Parker, Keyser; two grandsons, Michael Coates, Atlanta, Ga., Robert Coates, Cumberland; a granddaughter, Sandra Coates; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, among them a very close niece, Manilla Coker.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with Father Vance Pastorius, O.F.M., Cap. officiating.
Interment will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
HOWARD I. MCKENZIE
AVILTON - Howard I. McKenzie, 85, of 135 McKenzie Road, Lonaconing (Avilton), died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born May 1, 1913, in Garrett County, he was a son of the late Olin and Annie (Winner) McKenzie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen P. (Dishong) McKenzie, on Dec. 21, 1998.
Mr. McKenzie was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Shrine, Avilton, and was a retired timber cutter.
He is survived by his daughter, Gladys Wilhelm and husband, Larry, Lonaconing; a sister, Leora Brown, Avilton; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Catholic Prayer Service will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Moody officiating.
Interment will be in St. Ann's Cemetery.
