JAMES GORDON NEILSON SR.
FROSTBURG - James Gordon Neilson Sr., 92, of 137 Ormand St., Frostburg, died Friday, June 11, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Aug. 6, 1906, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Thomas and Rachel (Ware) Neilson. His wife, Ruth L. (Bean) Neilson, also preceded him in death in 1989.
Mr. Neilson was a retired owner and operator of the Neilson Brothers Supply Company.
He was Protestant by faith, and he was a Life Member of the Frostburg B.P.O. Elks Lodge #470. Surviving are a daughter, Lois Ann "Peggy" Kesner, Mount Airy; two sons, James G. Neilson Jr. and Harry M. Neilson, both of Cumberland; a brother, Ludwig Neilson, Frostburg; seven grandchildren, James D. Neilson, Mechanicsburg, Pa., Rebecca L. Neilson, Bowie, Kathy Lynn Schultz, Miami, Fla, Harry M. Neilson, Short Gap, W.Va., John E. Kesner III, Brasher Falls, N.Y., Karen A. Kendall, Mount Airy, and Jeanne Kesner, Yorktowne, Va.; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Thomas Staup officiating.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be James D. Neilson, John E. Kesner III, Harry M. Neilson, Marshall Neilson Jr., Lloyd Neilson and Dale Parker.
MILDRED M. PHILLIPS
GRANTSVILLE - Mildred May Phillips, 94, formerly of Frostburg, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born May 13, 1905, in Rockwood, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William and Belinda (Boyer) Miller. She also was preceded in death by her husband, C. Victor Phillips; four grandsons, John Phillips, Joseph Phillips, James George and Charles Edmiston; and one great-great-granddaughter, Katy Edmiston. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Phillips was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ, the Ladies Guild of the church, and was a homemaker.
Surviving are two sons, J. Robert Phillips and wife Maxine, Keyser, W.Va., and James Phillips and wife Annie, Wexford, Pa.; two daughters, Dottie George, Grantsville, and Irene Hady, Meyersdale, Pa.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted there Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Roland E. Nairn III, officiating.
Interment will be in the German Lutheran Cemetery, Frostburg.

GARY J. MINNICK
FROSTBURG - Gary J. Minnick, 30, of Dobbin Drive, NW, Frostburg, died unexpectedly on Monday, Aug. 9, 1999 at his parents' residence.
Born April 4, 1969, in Frostburg, he was the son of Robert and Isabel (Caton) Minnick, of Frostburg.
Mr. Minnick was a heavy equipment operator at United Energies Coal Co.
Surviving in addition to his parents are four children, Sarah Minnick, Kathryn Minnick, Megan Minnick and Nathan Minnick, all of Frostburg; two sisters, Carolyn Williams and husband James, Frostburg, and Teresa Topper and husband Dave, Finzel; a brother, Joe Minnick and wife Chris, Frostburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Byrnes as celebrant.
Interment will be in the Finzel Cemetery.
FRANCIS S. MCKENZIE
CUMBERLAND - Francis S. "Beck" McKenzie, 90, of Gephart Drive, Cumberland, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at his residence.
Born Sept. 30, 1909, in Cresaptown, he was the son of the late George J. and Mary (Hershberger) McKenzie. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Loretta E. (Starkey) McKenzie in February of this year; eight brothers; and two sisters. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. McKenzie was a former employee of the Celanese, Dade County, Florida Board of Education and retired from Mason's Barn Restaurant. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps Engineer veteran of World War II. He was a member of V.F.W. Henry Hart Post 1411 and Charter member of the Cresaptown Volunteer Fire Department.
Surviving are two daughters, Annabelle Butler and husband, Charles "Bo", LaVale, Willia Powell, Cumberland; one granddaughter, Teri Detrick and husband, David, Ridgeley, W.Va.; six grandsons, Brad Butler, Sr., Fayetteville, N.C., Bret Butler and wife, Cindy, Thurmont, Rusty Butler and wife, Beth, Lonaconing, B.K. Powell and wife, Sheila, Morgantown, W.Va., Cliff Powell and wife, Kim, Springfield, W.Va., Dane Powell and wife, Christina, Baltimore; three great-grandsons, Jason Detrick, Sr., Fort Ashby, W.Va., Brad Butler, Jr., Fayetteville, N.C., Shawn Powell, Springfield; nine great-granddaughters, Tracy Ott, Martinsburg, W.Va., Hollie Butler, Charles Town, W.Va., Aimee Butler, Martinsburg, W.Va., Tara Detrick, Lara Detrick, both of Ridgeley, Sandy Powell, Romney, Bridgett Stockett and husband, Dana, Katie Powell, all of Morgantown, W.Va.; Kayla Butler, Thurmont; four great-great-grandchildren, Brianna Stockett, Morgantown, Ashley Detrick, Fort Ashby, Cameron Butler, Martinsburg, and Jason Detrick, Jr., Fort Ashby.

CRESAPTOWN - James B. Minnick, age 64, of 12914 Sixth Ave., Cresaptown, died Friday, April 30, 1999, at his residence.
Born June 3, 1935, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Marion and Mildred (Jeffries) Minnick.
Mr. Minnick was a former employee of the Mount Savage Refractory. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg.
Surviving are two sons, James L. Minnick, Hiddenite, N.C., and Ronald F. Minnick, Cresaptown; one daughter, Judy Minnick, Mount Savage; former wife, Shirley (Platter) Decker; two brothers, Robert Minnick and Ronald Minnick; one sister, Leona Baker, all of Frostburg; four granddaughters, Tracie Minnick, Heather Minnick, Candise Unger and Shana Unger; and several nieces and nephews.
