VICTOR J. MORELAND
Victor J. Moreland, 78, of Cumberland, died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at his residence.
Born Aug. 11, 1920, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Frank B. and Regina (Griffin) Moreland. He also was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Moreland was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and was owner and operator of Vic's Tavern on Oldtown Road, Cumberland. He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School and a member of St. Marys Catholic Church. He was a member of the Cumberland Eagles Aerie #245, a life member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club, and the American Legion Post #26, Hancock.
Surviving are his wife, Gloria F. (Jones) Moreland; one daughter, Vicki L. Martin and husband, Lamar, Cumberland; three grandchildren, Timothy J. Martin and wife, Melissa, Taryn M. Bennett and husband, Howard, Cammie L. Shafer and husband, Jim, all of Cumberland; four great-grandchildren, Tyler J. Shafer, H. Lyle Bennett, Ryan S. Shafer, Trey M. Bennett; one brother, Lester L. Moreland, Hagerstown; one niece, Cheryl A. Frame and husband, Thomas, Hagerstown; special cousin, Millie Faye Ciccone and husband, Joe, Henderson, Nev.; and special care providers, Timothy L. McLarney and wife, Terri, LaVale.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Wednesday at 9 a.m. with the Rev. Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Maryland Veterans Honor Guard.
The family reuqests that contributions be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
ELIZABETH PORTER
CUMBERLAND - Elizabeth "Tiny" Porter, 92, of Cumberland, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at her residence.
Born Jan. 31, 1907, in Eckart, she was the daughter of the late Clay and Josephine (Bolinger) Sperry. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Porter, on Dec. 31, 1977; four brothers, Charles Sperry, George Sperry, James Sperry, and Robert Sperry.
Mrs. Porter had been employed as a telephone operator; cashier at Roenbaum's Department Store; and was retired from the Workshop for the Blind.
Survivors include her son, Gene Porter and wife, Lillian, Cumberland; her daughter, Carol J. Hoover and husband, Donald, Meyersdale, Pa.; her sister, Mary Abare and husband, Ray, Silver Spring; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Bruce Ashlock, officiating.
Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Meyersdale.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
HAROLD V. MORGAN
CUMBERLAND - Harold Vernon Morgan, 69, of 627 Princeton St., Cumberland, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 21, 1930, in Flintstone, he was the son of the late Merten Issac Morgan and the late Julia Pleasant (Hymes) Morgan. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Morgan and Homer Morgan.
Mr. Morgan was a retired electrician's helper.
Surviving are a brother, William F. Morgan and wife, Marian, Ridgeley, W.Va.; a sister, Mary E. Rice, Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with the Rev. Harry L. Burchell Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in Prosperity United Methodist Church Cemetery.
JOSEPH J. NEAT
DELAND, Fla. - Joseph J. "Dewey" Neat, of DeLand, formerly of Frostburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, in DeLand.
He was the son of the late Dewey Neat and Gertrude Neat-Watt-Yakel (nee Huber).
Mr. Neat was a retired Battalion Chief from the Baltimore County Fire Department and a retired Constable from the State of Maryland, and a World War II veteran who was a member of the Alvin C. Neat VFW Post 5280.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred Homens-Neat; three children; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister.
Internment was on Sept. 25, 1999, at Deltona Memorial Gardens, Deltona, Fla.
MORGAN D. MORGAN JR.
BARRELVILLE - Morgan David "Morgie" Morgan Jr., 93, of Barrelville, died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Sept. 24, 1905, in Somerset, Pa., he was the son of the late Morgan David Morgan Sr. and Jennie E. (London) Morgan. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Bertie E. (Kellar) Morgan; three brothers, John, Bill and Tom Morgan; and one sister, Alice Klosterman.
Mr. Morgan worked at Kelly Springfield Tire Co. for 44 years. He was co-founder and trustee of the Barrelville Outdoor Club.
Surviving are one daughter, Alice Roberta (Morgan) Abucevicz and husband George Sr., Barrelville; one son, Morgan David Morgan III and wife Ella, Barrelville; six grandchildren, George "Teddy" Abucevicz Jr. and Vickie, Corriganville, Keith Abucevicz and wife Diane, Michael Abucevicz and wife Susan, all of Keyser, W.Va., Karen (Morgan) Gayle, Rawlings, Morgan David Morgan IV and wife Dawna, and Tammy (Morgan) Shanon, all of Mount Savage; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Thursday at 1 p.m. with Pastor James R. Glass officiating.
Interment will be in the Mount Savage Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be J.M. "Tony" Michaels, Morgan D. Morgan IV, George "Teddy" Abucevicz, Keith Abucevicz, Michael Abucevicz and David Abucevicz.
RAYMOND MORGAN
LONACONING - Raymond Morgan, 70, of the Devlin Manor Nursing Center, Cumberland, formerly of 14 E. Railroad St., Lonaconing, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born May 4, 1929, in Lonaconing, he was a son of the late Joseph E. Morgan and Sarah (Metz) Morgan. He also was preceded in death by a brother, John "Jack" Morgan; and a sister, Margaret "Peggy" Shroyer.
Mr. Morgan was a glass worker at Queen City Glass, LaVale. He attended First United Methodist Church, Lonaconing.
Surviving are two brothers, Irvin Morgan and wife Anne, Denver, and William Morgan and wife Opal, Fritch, Texas; and two sisters, Thelma M. Llewellyn, Bedford, Pa., and Anna Clark and husband J.H. "Tex," Richmond, Va. He also is survived by nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews.
Friends were received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Friends will be received Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, from 10 to 11 a.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Mortimore officiating.
Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
