BILLY L. MORTZFELDT
CUMBERLAND - Billy L. Mortzfeldt, 46, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, in Memorial Hospital.
Born May 20, 1953, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Amos Roy Mortzfeldt, Sr., and Mary "Dutch" (Lipscomb) Mortzfeldt. He was also preceded in death by a nephew, Anthony Frazier and great niece, Holly Meeks.
Surviving are his daughter, Heather Mortzfeldt, of Cumberland, with whom he resided; sisters, Mary Brockey and husband, Robert, of Evansville, Ind., Barbara Jean Meeks and husband, Gerald, of Cumberland, Betty Jo Himes and husband, Francis, of Johnstown, Pa., and Linda Mortzfeldt and friend, Steve, of Evansville, Ind.; brothers, Amos Roy "Buddy" Mortzfeldt, Jr., and wife, Lois, of Shreveport, La., and John E. Mortzfeldt, of Cumberland, with whom he also resided; six nephews; three nieces; seven great-nephews; eight great-nieces; a special godchild, Haley Meeks; and his yellow lab, Cheyanne.
At Mr. Mortzfeldt's request his body will be cremated.
Services will be conducted at the chapel at Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale, on Friday, Dec. 10, 1999, at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. David Dayhoff, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory to the Animal Welfare Society, 716 Furnace St., Cumberland, MD 21502.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Hwy., LaVale.
WILLIS P. MOSS
LAVALE - Willis Paul Moss, infant son of Robert and Ann (Smith) Moss, went to heaven on March 3, 1999.
In addition to his parents, his family includes his brother, Stephen Smith, LaVale; maternal grandparents, Willis Kent and Vivian Smith, LaVale; paternal grandparents, June M. Couter, Cumberland, and the late Paul Couter; maternal great-grandmother, Ione Smith, LaVale; paternal great-grandmother, Eleanor Couter, Cumberland and many other loving family members.
A private service and interment will be held on March 5, 1999.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV 26506.
The Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, is in charge of arrangements.
EVA CONWAY MOSTELLER
ELMIRA, N.Y. - Eva Conway Mosteller, 80, died on Monday, May 24, 1999, in Elmira.
She married
Douglas Mosteller, and the couple moved to Elmira. Eva was pre-deceased by her husband.
She is survived by her brother, George K. Conway and wife, Rosemary, LaVale, Md.; a son, Bruce and wife, JoAnn, Horseheads, N.Y.; a son, Richard and wife, Barbara, Walkersville, Md.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was a New York State women's bowling association champion for five years, and won awards in her golf career.
Eva will be most remembered for her kind heart and bubbly personality.
RUTH E. MOULDEN
MOUNT SAVAGE - Ruth E. Moulden, 73, of Mount Savage, died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at her home. She was formerly of Frostburg.
Born Nov. 10, 1925, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Grover and Annie (Palmer) Horine. She was also preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Paul Moulden, in 1967; and one sister, Delores Horine.
Mrs. Moulden had been a clerk at The Prichard Corporation. She was an active member of the First English Baptist Church, Frostburg, where she taught Sunday School.
Surviving are three sons, Philip Moulden and wife, Patty, Mount Savage, Robert Moulden and wife, Pam, Boulder Creek, Calif., and Douglas Moulden and fiancee, Jo Ann Anderson, Cumberland; one daughter, Sue Leon, Bridgeport, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; three brothers, John Horine, Myersville, Carroll Horine, Frederick, and Paul Horine, Myersville; and three sisters, Alice Scigliano, Myersville, Janice Dodson, Martinsburg, W.Va., and Anna Huffman, Middletown, W.Va.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Oscar Ohler Sr. officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.
ANNA M. PINTO
FROSTBURG - Anna Marie Pinto, 98, of Frostburg, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at the St. Vincent De Paul Nursing Center.
Born Nov. 15, 1900, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Teresa (Tormina) Matese. She was also preceded in death by three brothers; one sister; and her husband, Carmelo Pinto, in 1981.
Mrs. Pinto was a homemaker and a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg, and the Sodality.
Surviving are one son, Charles Pinto and wife Mary, Frostburg. Three grandchildren, James Pinto, Elkridge, Deborah Grieves, Columbia, and Kathy Lucas, Flintstone. Three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Minnella, Courtland, N.Y.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg on Wednesday from 9 to 10:15 a.m.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. William Moody as celebrant.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.
The family requests expressions of sympathy be directed to the St. Michael's Church, Frostburg.
LORETTA E. MCKENZIE
CUMBERLAND - Loretta E. (Starkey) McKenzie, 87, of Cumberland, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Oct. 21, 1911, in Ridgeley, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late J. Gibson and Bertha (McBee) Starkey. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Randell "Bus" Starkey; and one sister, Marion Fey.
Mrs. McKenzie was retired from the Cumberland Blouse Factory. She was a member of the Women of the Moose in Cumberland.
Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Francis S. "Beck" McKenzie; two daughters, Annabelle Butler and husband Charles "Bo," LaVale, and Willa Powell, Cumberland; granddaughter, Teri Detrick and husband David, Ridgeley, W.Va.; grandsons, Brad Butler, Charlestown, W.Va., Bret Butler and wife Cindy, Cresaptown, Rusty Butler and wife Beth, Lonaconing, B.K. ABRAHAM W. PETERSON
CUMBERLAND - Abraham W. Peterson, 81, of Cumberland, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born March 1, 1918, in Bayard, W.Va., he was the son of the late William and Carrie (Iman) Peterson. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie (Geneva) Peterson, May 13, 1986; one brother; and four sisters.
Mr. Peterson was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a former employee of PPG Industries, Department of Interior, and Western Maryland Railroad.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty A. Diehl and husband Gordon, Bedford, Pa., and Vickie K. Everly and husband Roger, LaVale; three sons, William G. Peterson, Cumberland, Gary Lee Peterson and wife Diane, Jacksonville, Fla., and Larry D. Peterson, Cumberland; one brother, Fred Peterson, Calif.; one sister, Lu Yaider, Cumberland; 15 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Stephen Scheussler officiating.
Interment will be in the Union Cemetery, Centerville, Pa.
Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
