MARGARET R. NEFF
CUMBERLAND - Margaret R. Neff, 96, formerly of Fulton Street, Cumberland, died Saturday at the Allegany County Nursing Home.
Born on June 18, 1902, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late John W. Neff and Mary Ellen (Stoner) Neff. She also was preceded in death by one sister, Mary A. Newnam.
Miss Neff was a retired sales clerk at Liberty Hardware Company with 42 years of service. She was a 50-plus year member of Centre Street United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Wesleyan Circle of the United Methodist Women and a charter member of the Weldemerns Bible Class.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and she is survived by one niece, Ellen (Newnam) Morris, Cumberland; and a very close friend, Eleanor McElfish, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland, MD 21502 on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Lloyd B. McCanna officiating.
Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be members from the United Methodist Men's Club of Centre Street United Methodist Church, Graydon Dunlap, Robert Spriggs, Philip Lucas Jr., Walter Growden, Daily Orndorff and William Kight.
The family has requested that contributions take the form of donations to Centre Street United Methodist Church Capital Improvement Fund, 217 N. Centre St., Cumberland, MD 21502.
BASIL J. PRESSMAN
FROSTBURG - Basil J. Pressman, 87, of 76 Ormand St., Frostburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Sept. 2, 1911, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Stanley and Lena (Schramn) Pressman. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Aldridge Pressman, in 1991; three sisters, Thelma Broderick, Leona Ward and Nancy Engle; and a brother, Earl Pressman.
Mr. Pressman was retired from the Celanese Fibers Corporation, and he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was Protestant by faith.
Surviving are two brothers, Ralph Pressman and Donald Pressman, both of Frostburg; a sister, Mildred McAtee, Willowick, Ohio; two grandnephews whom he reared, James Speir and wife, Patty, Loartown, and Leonard "Sonny" Speir and wife, Silda, with whom he resided; and many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Diane Smith officiating.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded at graveside by Farrady Post #24 American Legion Honor Guard.
EUGENE H. MULLIGAN
CUMBERLAND - Eugene Herman Mulligan, 81, of Cumberland, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at his residence.
Born Sept. 19, 1918, in Ridgeley, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles and Lillian (Cline) Mulligan. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Carney) Mulligan; and one sister, Alberta Davis.
While serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he was recognized for his heroic achievement on land with a field artillery battalion and meritorious achievement while in the air. He received the Bronze Star for fearlessly scalping the precipitous face of a mountain while exposed to enemy observation and subjected to mortar and machine gun fire. The aerial award was bestowed upon him for making 35 reconnaissance sorties in combat against the enemy.
Mr. Mulligan had been an electrician, belonging to the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 307.
He belonged to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Knobley Mt. Post 136, American Legion, and Aerie 245, F.O.E. He was a life member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club.
Survivors include his son, Michael E. Mulligan, Cumberland; his daughter, Partricia M. Andrews, Lonaconing; two brothers, Charles Mulligan, Ridgeley, and Raymond "Skeeter" Mulligan, Tyler, Texas; two sisters, Mary Manning, Glen Burnie, and Charlotte Herman, Hancock; four grandchildren, Michael E.F. Mulligan, Cumberland, Michelle L. Andrews, Edgar S. Andrews, III, and Eric S. Andrews, all of Lonaconing; and one great-grandson, Alexander Mulligan, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Memorial service by I.B.E.W. will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home, with Deacon Francis Werner, officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military honors will be accorded by the local combined veterans honor guard.
Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Kelley, Harold Martin, Gus Brant, Jim Starr, Bud Jewell, and Joe Yockus.
LAWRENCE C. MUNSON
HANCOCK - Lawrence C. Munson, age 71, of Heavenly Acres Ridge, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at his home.
Born May 29, 1927, near Hancock, he was the son of the late Theodore and Anna Mae Jackson Munson.
He was retired from Kelly-Springfield Tire Company in Cumberland as a Maintenance Supervisor. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob in Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife, Reba E. Fletcher Munson, Hancock, whom he married
in Hancock in 1993; two daughters, Martha Ann Crumpton, Graniteville, S.C., and Diane Perrin, Flintstone; seven sons, Lawrence Andrew Munson and Jacob Mark Munson, both of Graniteville, Daniel Lee Munson and Steven L. Munson, both of Martinsburg, W.Va., Phillip Wayne Munson, Scalley, S.C., John Douglas Munson, Paw Paw, W.Va., and Jeffrey D. Munson, Cumberland; three stepdaughters, Diane Faith, Hancock, Carrie Jones, Aurora, Colo., Linda Barnhart, Artemas, Pa.; three stepsons, Arkie Willey, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., James G. Myers, Michael T. Myers, both of Hancock; two sisters, Doris Davis, Clearwater, Fla., Joy Lee Peoples, Hagerstown; one brother, Joe Munson, Middletown; 28 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, David Munson.
Services will be held on Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob, Berm Road, Hancock. Bishop K. Paul Bowers will officiate. Burial will be in the Price-Wesleyan Cemetery, Price Road, Little Orleans.
The family will receive friends at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open on Thursday from 2 to 9 p.m.

ALVIN G. MURPHY
SWANTON - Alvin Glen Murphy, 61, of Dry Run Road, Swanton, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999, at the Nursing Home Care Unit of the Veterans Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born in Garrett County, he was the son of the late Glen and Grace (Handwork) Murphy. He also was preceded in death by his wife of 19 years, Peggy Jean (Iser) Murphy.
Alvin retired from Penn Ventilator in Keyser, W.Va. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are three daughters, Judy Murphy, Fredericksburg, Va., Joyce Resh, Stafford, Va., and Joy Sowers, Elkridge, Md.; one son, Jay Murphy, Sharpsburg, Md.; one sister, Thelma Brant, McHenry, Md.; one brother, Marvin Murphy, Grantsville, Md.; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at Dry Run Mennonite Church on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Alva Maust, the Rev. Sanford Bender and the Rev. Leonard Orndorff officiating.
Interment will be in the Murphy Cemetery, Dry Run, where full military honors will be accorded at graveside by American Legion Post 71 of Oakland.
AMOS H. MURPHY JR.
RIXEYVILLE, Va. - Amos H. Murphy Jr., 64, of Rixeyville, formerly of Flintstone, Md., died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville, Tenn.
Born June 4, 1934, in Flintstone, he was the son of the late Amos H. Murphy Sr. and Hazel (Smith) Murphy.
Mr. Murphy was retired from the U.S. Army and was a deputy sheriff for Culpepper, Va. He was a member of Oakshade Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Warrenton Moose Lodge, a member of FOP, Culpepper, a member of the American Legion, Warrenton, and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
Surviving are his wife, Una E. Murphy; one daughter, Janet Pumphrey and husband Jim, Flintstone; one son, Michael E. Murphy and wife Tracy, Cumberland; two stepdaughters, Sue Villagomez and husband Javier, Rixeyville, and Samantha Lawler and husband Scott, Marshall, Va.; one brother, Kenneth Murphy and wife Sissy, Deale Beach, Md.; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Monday at 1 p.m. with Pastor David Childs officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Javier Villagomez, Scott Lawler, Bob Danner, Sean Pumphrey, James Pumphrey, Oscar Howington and Derek Emmel.
