GEORGE H. MYERS
LONACONING - George H. Myers, 74, of 17312 Engine House Row, S.W., Lonaconing, died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at the Memorial Hospital Hospice, Cumberland.
Born March 9, 1925, in Moscow Mills, he was a son of the late George Myers Sr. and Ethel Myers. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Audra N. (Weimer) Myers, in 1988.
Mr. Myers was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He retired from Westvaco with 36 years' service, having worked in the Finishing Department. He was a member of the Allegany Lodge No. 157 AF & AM, Barton, and the Scottish Rite of Cumberland. He was a member of the First Assembly of God, Lonaconing, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Myers loved his grandchildren very much. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by three sons, Randall K. Myers and wife, Linda, Barton, Gay R. Myers and wife, Leah Jane, Fort Ashby, W.Va., Gary R. Ashby and wife, Elizabeth, Rising Sun; five grandchildren, Ashley Myers, Kari Myers, Catlin Myers, Stephen Ashby and Cheryl Ashby; and a close friend, Elaine Green.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Thursday, July 22, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Chapel on Friday, July 23, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. George Loar.
Interment will be in the Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
The Allegany Lodge No. 157 will conduct a memorial service at the chapel on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mr. Myers' memory to the Memorial Hospital Hospice.
AFTEN V. PHILLIPS
RAWLINGS - Aften Violet Phillips, 86, formerly of Rawlings, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born April 20, 1912, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Alba M. and Ersa M. (Hardman) Phillips.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Hayden L. Phillips.
Miss Phillips was a retired Registered Nurse. She had been the operating room supervisor at Goldwater Memorial Hospital, New York. Miss Phillips had also done geriatric nursing.
She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and had been active with the Upper Potomac Valley Kennel Club.
Survivors include one sister, Winifred Kolkhorst, Richmond, Va.; three brothers, Merrill Phillips, Frostburg, Irwin 'Art' Phillips, and Richard Phillips, both of Rawlings; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a private interment at Sunset Memorial Park.
Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, is in charge of arrangements.
EUGENE B. MOORE
FROSTBURG - Eugene B. Moore, 72, of Frostburg, formerly of Rockwood, Pa., died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at home.
Born January 25, 1927, in Black Township, Pa., he was the son of Charles and Agnes (Phillippi) Moore.
Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Dale Moore; three sisters, Martha, Hazelwood and Florence; and an infant brother.
Surviving are two brothers, Charles Jr., Garrett, Pa., and Orrie, Rockwood, Pa., five sisters, Melda Knopsnyder, Somerset, Pa., Idella Thompson, Markleton, Pa., Cleda Taubin, Harrisonburg, Va., Esther Ohler, Berlin. Pa., and Delores Moore, Somerset, Pa.
Mr. Moore was a retired bookkeeper for Morton's Chevrolet, Frostburg. He was a U.S. Army veteran in World War II, a longtime volunteer at the Frostburg Blood Bank and Meals on Wheels.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the Miller Funeral Home, Rockwood, Pa.
Funeral services will be held there on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Pastor Gene Abel officiating.
Interment will be in Laurel Church Cemetery, Rockwood, Pa.
ELSIE E. MOORE
MOUNT SAVAGE - Elsie E. (Bridges) Moore, 79, of Sunnyside, Mount Savage, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at the Memorial Hospital Hospice Care Unit.
Born April 21, 1919, in Sunnyside, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Elizabeth (Meyers) Bridges. She also was preceded in death by three brothers; and one sister.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, William A. Moore; a son, Robert E. Moore, Sunnyside; a grandson, Robert E. Moore Jr., Maple Hills, Md.; a granddaughter, Sally Mamo, Wayne, Pa.; one brother, Robert L. Bridges, Sunnyside; one sister, Charlotte Harden, Parkersburg Road, Frostburg; two precious grandchildren, Andrew Mamo, Wayne, Pa., and Caitlyn Moore, Maple Hills, Md.; two nephews, Bee Culley, Eckhart, and Jeremy Bridges, Sunnyside; six nieces, Carol McCleaf, Sunnyside, Betty Bohrer, Cumberland, Diane Williamson, Lonaconing, Michele Bridges, Cumberland, Lee Ann Robertson, Mount Savage, and Rhonda Hose, Germantown; and great-nieces and -nephews, Emily and Zachary Bridges, Abby Bennett, Sonny and Buck Bohrer, all of Cumberland, Daniel Kearchner, Rebecca and Jennifer McCleaf, all of Mount Savage, and Rachel Culley, Eckhart.
Mrs. Moore also is survived by 5,888,650 Jehovah's Witnesses, her beloved spiritual brothers and sisters.
At her request, a private graveside service was held in the Frostburg Memorial Park prior to the publication of her obituary.
A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah's Witnesses, Cherry Lane, Frostburg, on Saturday, March 6, 1999, at 2 p.m. with Mr. John Richmond as speaker.
ELOGEANNE A. MOORE
OAKLAND - Elogeanne A. Moore, age 81, of 125 Crook Crest, Oakland, died on Wednesday at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland.
She was born in Oakland, Oct. 23, 1917, and was a daughter of the late Samuel B. Aronhalt and Pearle (Lawton) Aronhalt. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John W. Moore, in 1995.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three sons, the Rev. J. Samuel Moore Sr., Deer Park, William M. Moore, Elkton, and James R. Moore, Mountain Lake Park; two sisters, Gladys Nordeck, Oakland, and Julia Ann Bennett, Baltimore; four grandchildren, Beth Mankin, John S. Moore Jr., Amanda Moore and Kristin Moore; and one niece, Darden Bennett.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Samuel Moore officiating.
Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
The family suggests memorials be directed to Hospice of Garrett County or to the charity of the donor's choice.
MARY GRACE OLIVE PATTON
FROSTBURG - Mary Grace Olive Patton, 84, of Frostburg, went to be with the Lord, Jesus, on Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born July 23, 1914, in Dayton, Ohio she was the daughter of the late Charles and Angela (Thompson) Fram. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William A. Patton.
Mrs. Patton was a homemaker and a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the Sodality.
Surviving are one daughter, Rose Marie Dentinger and husband, Bill, Cumberland; three sons, Charles E. Patton and wife, Anna, Eckhart, Francis W. Patton and wife, Janet, Mount Zion, Ill., and Michael D. Patton, LaVale; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Helen Theodeltas 'Dolly' Harris; and two nieces, Paula Winters and Georgeann Martin, all from Ohio.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Father Paul A. Byrnes as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
