MARGARET A. DEWITT
Margaret A. DeWitt, 84, Oakland, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, at the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born Nov. 17, 1915, in Hoyes, she was a daughter of the late Richard J. and Daisy M. (Friend) De-Witt. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marshall E. De-Witt, in 1978; one son, Ronald DeWitt; one sister, Irene De-Witt; and seven brothers, William DeWitt, Adrian DeWitt, Robert De-Witt, Claude DeWitt, James DeWitt, Otis De-Witt and Burl DeWitt.
She was a member of the Oak Park Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include three daughters, Joanne Glotfelty, Oakland, Patricia Hearst, Chesapeake, Va., and Rita J. Waugh, Funkstown; two sons, Jackson DeWitt Sr., Bel Air, and Richard DeWitt, Wallingford, Pa.; two brothers, Verl DeWitt, Eugene, Ore., and Donald DeWitt, Boonesboro; 23 grandchildren, including three whom she reared, Mary M. Teter, Loch Lynn, and Jackson DeWitt Jr. and Robert DeWitt, both of Oakland; 36 great-grand-children; and one great-great-grandchild.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. A service was conducted at the Oak Park Church of the Brethren on Monday, May 15, with the Rev. Mel Menker officiating. Interment was in Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.
MELVIN F. HUMPHREYS
Melvin F. Humphreys, 93, Hagerstown, formerly of Sykesville and Oakland, died Friday, May 12, 2000, at the Julia Manor Health Care Center, Hagerstown.
Born Sept. 6, 1906, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Harry F. and Blanche E. (Getzdanner) Humphreys.
He was a retired lineman for the C&P Telephone Company.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
At the deceased's request, his body was cremated. Interment of the cremains will be in the Baltimore Cemetery at a later date.
The Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, is in charge of arrangements.
HOMER L. FIKE
Homer Leland Fike, 99, Eglon, W.Va., died Friday, May 12, 2000, at the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born April 17, 1901, in Eglon, he was a son of the late Silas Roy and Matilda Delilah (Slaubaugh) Fike. He was preceded in death by two wives, Nellie Daye (King) Fike, and Orpha (Kirk) Martin Fike. He was also preceded in death by one son, two daughters, two sisters, one brother, and two grand-children.
He was a farmer, carpenter, miner, and woodworker.
Survivors include one son, Everett Forrest Fike, Aurora, Colo.; four daughters, Viola Gordon, Ocala, Fla., Creola Jones, Boonesboro, Eloise Frances Harsh, Terra Alta, W.Va., and Josephine Elaine Ashby, Oakland; one sister, Lela Judy, Greenwood, Del.; 26 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Aurora United Methodist Memorial Building. A service was conducted at the Maple Spring Church of the Brethren on Monday, May 15, with the Rev. John Crow and the Rev. J. Rogers Fike officiating. Interment was in the Eglon Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to the Union Ambulance Service or the Aurora Volunteer Fire Department.

MARGARET L. LYTLE
Margaret Louise "Peggy" Lytle, 63, Friendsville, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, at her home.
Born Oct. 13, 1936, in Confluence, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Ray and Ruth Wilson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. Lytle Sr., on Dec. 19, 1994.
She was a member of Johnson Chapel United Methodist Church and was a retired licensed practical nurse. She worked for Dr. Edwin Price, Dr. Harold Kamons, the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, and the Meyersdale (Pa.) Manor Nursing Home.
Surviving are two sons, Paul R. "Buddy" Lytle and Dean A. Lytle, both of Friendsville; one daughter, Shelly R. Lytle, Friendsville; one sister, June Basinger, Ursina, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville, where a service was conducted Monday, May 15, with the Rev. Michael Robinson officiating. Interment was in the Blooming Rose Cemetery.
DENNIS W. BRANT
Dennis W., Brant, 36, Salisbury, Pa., formerly of Garrett, Pa., died Saturday, May 13, 2000, in Elk Lick Township, Pa.
Born April 8, 1964, in Meyersdale, Pa., he was a son of Donald S. and Ardith J. (Brocht) Brant, Garrett.
He was an employee of Bender Shoe Factory, Somerset, Pa. He was a member of the Garrett and Salisbury volunteer fire departments, and was also associated with the Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Garrett Church of the Brethren and Sons of the American Legion.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Lisa R. (Hutzell) Brant; three daughters, Megan Brant, Alason Brant, and Holly Skinner; three brothers, Kenneth C. Brant, Garrett, Larry D. Brant, Meyersdale, and David W. Brant, Garrett; and one sister, Gladys "Snook" Lohr, Stoystown, Pa.
Friends were received at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, where a service was conducted Tuesday, May 16, with the Rev. Kenneth A. Davis officiating. Interment was in the Highland Cemetery, Garrett.

HELEN D. CROUTCHER
Helen (DeWitt) Croutcher, 80, Oxford, N.C., died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at Oxford Manor, Oxford.
Born May 4, 1919, in Garrett County, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Mae (Franz) DeWitt.
She was a homemaker and a member of Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include her husband, Gary Croutcher; three daughters, Lois Grant, Efland, N.C., Barbara Cain, Dunkirk, and Lena Vogel, Pleasanton, Calif.; one son, Edward Proudfoot, Houston, Texas; one sister, Lorraine Hanna, Bel Air; one brother, Maxwell DeWitt, Oakland; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the J.M. White Funeral Home, Louisburg, N.C., where a service was conducted Monday, April 24, with the Rev. Frank Sossamon officiating.

M. FLORENCE HARDESTY
M. Florence (Dixon) Hardesty, 90, Glen Burnie, formerly of Aurora, W.Va., died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at the Knollwood Manor Nursing Home, Millersville.
Born April 2, 1910, in Aurora, she was the daughter of the late David A. and Hannah (Houston) Dixon. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Hardesty.
She and her husband operated a dairy farm in Aurora for 70 years. She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Aurora, and sang in the church choir.
Survivors include two daughters, Doris E. Drenning, Glen Burnie, and Judith Anne Zapata, Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grand-children.
A memorial service is planned at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Aurora, on Saturday, May 20, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Bill Connelly officiating.

JAMES L. KRAUSE
James Leon Krause, 75, Willingboro, N.J., and Deep Creek Lake, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at Virtua-Memorial Hospital, Mount Holly, N.J.
He was born in Johnstown, Pa., but lived much of his life in Oakland. He lived in Willingboro since 1966 and maintained a summer home at Deep Creek Lake.
He was a 1941 graduate of Oakland High School, where he was on the track team. While in Oakland, he attended St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Following graduation, he moved to Baltimore and worked for the Glenn L. Martin Co. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and later attended Johns Hopkins University.
He worked for Underwriters Salvage Co., Philadelphia, until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Willingboro.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 50 years, Joan (Sorensen) Krause; one daughter, Jeanne Carpenter, Garland, Texas; one son, James "Jay" Krause, Thorofare, N.J.; one sister, Shirley Gardner, Baltimore; and four granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Krause.
A memorial service was conducted Saturday, Jan. 29, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Willingboro, and the family plans another service at Deep Creek Lake on June 17.

RONDA K. MCKENZIE
Ronda Kay McKenzie, 21, Cumberland and former resident of Avilton, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, as the result of a one-vehicle accident on Route 40, near Finzel.
She was born March 2, 1979, in Layton, Utah, the daughter of Ricky D. McKenzie, Grantsville, and Donna Marie Laroque, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Oliver and Clara Laroque.
She was employed at Superfox Packaging Co., Cumberland. A Catholic by faith, she attended the Frostburg Church of the Brethren. She also attended Allegany Co. Vo-Tech in the cosmetology program.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by one brother, Jeremy D. McKenzie, Frostburg; one stepbrother, Tommy Lee, Florida; two step-sisters, Brenda Ann, Michigan, and Crystal Marie, Idaho; and her paternal grandparents, Paul and Shirley McKenzie, Avilton.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where a service was conducted Wednesday, May 17, with Fr. Bernard White and the Rev. Rick Riley officiating. Interment was in St. Ann's Cemetery, Avilton.
