MILDRED MCDONOUGH
CUMBERLAND - Mildred S. McDonough of Seton Apartments, Cumberland, died April 15, 1999, at Allegany County Nursing Home, Cumberland.
Born at Frostburg, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Ruth (Walsh) Seifarth. Her husband, Roy F. McDonough, died June 19, 1981. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Seifarth and Cecil Seifarth; and one sister, Catherine Meagher.
Mrs. McDonough was a retired school teacher. She began teaching at LaVale Elementary School, LaVale, then taught fourth grade at Beaver County School System, Beaver, Pa.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cumberland, the Senior Citizens of Cumberland. She was a volunteer at Sacred Heart Hospital, and was a member of the Beaver County Chapter of Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.
She is survived by nieces, Patti Cuthbertson and husband, Ed, and daughter Kristi Cuthbertson, Frostburg, Kay Cook, Cresaptown, Peggy Smith, Frostburg; one nephew, Mike Nolan and wife, Denise, and son, Matthew, of Hagerstown; other numerous nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Rose E. Nolan, Lonaconing, Nora Foley, Beaver; and one brother, Clifford Seifarth, address unknown.
Mrs. McDonough's body is at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., 8 E. Main St., Lonaconing. Private visitation will be held Sunday evening at the funeral home at her request.
A private Christian Wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home by Sister Marietta Culhane, O.S.F., Pastoral Life Director of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lonaconing.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the church by Father James Hannon. Although visitation is private, the public is welcome to attend the Mass.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lonaconing.
Pallbearers will be Ed Cuthbertson, Mike Nolan, Paul Miller, Jeff Wilson, Bob Flanigan and Bill Cuthbertson.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lonaconing, in lieu of flowers.
Memorial cards will be available at the funeral home.
JOHN W. MCFARLAND
LAVALE - John William "Mac" "Jack" McFarland, 67, of LaVale, returned to his Heavenly Father on Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 23, 1932, in Franklin, W.Va., he was the son of the late Daniel Willard and Eula Faye (Smith) McFarland. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph C. McFarland; one sister, Ella Mae Plumm; and one granddaughter, Heather McFarland.
Mr. McFarland was a retired Maryland State Policeman, where he was assigned to the Flintstone area for the majority of his working career. He was a graduate of Hancock High School, attended Potomac State College, Shepherd College, graduate of the Maryland State Police Academy, and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Surviving is his loving wife and best friend of 45 years, Margaret K. "Margie" (Clark) McFarland. Jack was a loving father and a wonderful grandfather. Also surviving are one son, J. Michael McFarland and wife Sharlene, Cumberland; two daughters, Ann Hoover and husband Randy, Frederick, and Tricia L. Melville and husband Neil, Tooele, Utah; one brother, James H. McFarland and wife Margie, Herndon, Va.; four sisters, Edna Ruth Fleming and husband Charles, Richmond, Va., Betty Lee Lippincott, Sterling, Va., Katherine LeFever and husband Jim, Alexandria, Va., and Maryann Gresham and husband Tom, Baltimore; and eight grandchildren, John Michael McFarland, Megan McFarland, Robyn Hoover, Rachael Hoover, William Hoover, Mylissa Hoover, Grace Melville and Quinn Melville.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Thursday at 12 noon. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.
BETTY LOU MCGOWAN
DUNDALK - Betty Lou McGowan, 40 years old, of Dundalk, died on March 18, 1999, at her home.
She was born on April 20, 1958, at Baltimore.
Surviving are her parents, Harry and Ruth McGowan of Cumberland; and one sister, Sharon Norris, Stewartstown, Pa.
Graveside services will be held at Zion Lutheran cemetery at Stemmers Run.
JANICE B. "MOM" PHILLIPS
FROSTBURG - Janice B. "Mom" Phillips, 83, of Frostburg, died Friday, July 2, 1999, at her home.
Born Oct. 27, 1915, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Clara (Michael) Brode. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Phillips; two daughters, Carroll Jean and Bonnie Gaye Phillips; two sisters; and three brothers.
Mrs. Phillips was a member of Salem United Church of Christ. She was a homemaker and a Mom to all, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader, gardener and bird watcher.
Surviving are her loving daughter, Barbara Wright and husband, Jim, Frostburg; four devoted grandchildren, Roxy McMahon and husband, Tom, South Carolina, Jamie Wright and wife, Rita, Michigan, Shannon Miller and husband, Jimmy, Frostburg, and Huey B. Wright, Texas; four adoring great-grandchildren, T.J. McMahon, Marcus Wright, Jared and Dieidre Shea McMahon; two stepdaughters, Helen Blizzard and husband, Al, Ohio, and Mildred Lashbaugh and husband, George, Frostburg, and families; and two sisters, Margaret "Doll" Rafferty, Maryland, and Phyllis Lancaster, Frostburg; and three special friends, Mid, Dot and Mary.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Ross Glotfelty officiating.
Interment will be in the Brode Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Children's Area, Frostburg Library.
Joseph W. McGreevy
FROSTBURG - Joseph W. McGreevy, age 80, of 34 W. College Ave., Frostburg, died Saturday, June 26, 1999, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Born Nov. 16, 1918, in Piedmont, W.Va., he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Eva (LaRue) McGreevy. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Lois Schwanibart; and three brothers, Harold, Robert and James Raymond McGreevy.
Mr. McGreevy was retired from Metropolitan Life Insurance Company after 33 years of service as branch manager and sales agent, and was formerly employed at the Celanese Fibers Corporation. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps fighter pilot during World War II.
He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg, Farrady Post #24 American Legion, the Frostburg Elks Lodge #470, and the Cumberland Composite Unit of the Civil Air Patrol where he held the rank of Major and formerly served as commander.
In 1984 he was inducted into the Maryland Boxing Hall of Fame. In 1937-1938 he was the South Atlantic Featherweight Champ. In 1942 he won the Randolph Field Championship Lightweight and won the Regional Golden Gloves in San Antonio. He twice fought at the national level.
Surviving are two daughters, Marsha Ann McKenzie and husband, Richard, Grantsville, and Cristine Fazenbaker and husband, Randall, Winchester, Va.; three sons, Joseph N. McGreevy and wife, Anna, Front Royal, Va., Terry Randall McGreevy and wife, Georganne, Ormand Beach, Fla., Jeffry Brian McGreevy and wife, Cindi, Winchester, Va.; two brothers, Stuart McGreevy and wife, Alice, Piedmont, and John Russell McGreevy and wife, Claudia, Manassas, Va.; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. William Moody as celebrant.
Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone. Military Honors will be accorded by Farrady Post #24 American Legion Honor Guard.
ALPHONSO PROMUTICO
RAWLINGS - Alphonso Promutico, 79, of 21601 Granny Lane, Rawlings, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at the Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born on Dec. 10, 1919, in Altri, Italy, he was the son of the late Pietro and Marguerite (Caperna) Promutico.
Mr. Promutico was retired from the U.S. Navy and the National Park Service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Promuctico was also a member of the Church of the Assumption, Keyser; Queens Point Memorial Post 6775; V.F.W., McCoole; Victory Post 155 American Legion, Westernport; and the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 67, Suitland, Md.
Surviving are his wife, Anna (Chucci) Promutico; three sons, Peter A. Promutico and wife Delano, Dracut, Mass., Nicholas Promutico, Washington, D.C., Alphonso Promutico, Dracut, Mass.; three brothers, John Promutico, Tona, Va., Joseph Promutico, Tamarac , Fla., Albert Promutico, Plantation, Fla.; two sisters, Enrica Anderson, Flushing, N.Y., Florence Morgan, Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Friends may call the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A rosary/prayer service will be recited at the funeral home on Friday at 7 p.m.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Assumption, Keyser, on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Father Ivan M. Lebar, T.O.R. as celebrant.
Interment will be in the Rocky Gap Maryland State Veteran's Cemetery, Flintstone, Md.
