LEOLA B. METZ
CRESAPTOWN - Leola Beatrice Metz, 75, of Cresaptown, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at the Allegany County Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 2, 1924, in Pinto, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Dewey and Loala (Shanholtz) Shepherd. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Buddy" Earl Metz in 1986; one daughter, Donna Jean Metz; three brothers, Howard Shepherd, Willard Shepherd, and Chuck Shepherd; and two sisters, Madeline Fletcher and Mildred Shobe.
Mrs. Metz had been employed at People's Drug Store, Bruner's Doughnut House, and the Cresaptown Eagles. She had attended the Cresaptown United Methodist Church. She was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Aerie #2883, F.O.E., Cresaptown.
Surviving are one daughter, Debbie Cosner, Fairgo; four sons, Robert L. Metz, Cumberland, Terry R. Metz, Cresaptown, Dennis K. Metz, Carpendale, W.Va., and Roger D. Metz, Arnold; one brother, Richard "Dickie" Shepherd, Burlington, N.J.; three sisters, Betty Custer, Burlington, N.J., Dorothy Shraa, Alexandria, Va., and Doris Jeffries, Fayetteville, N.C.; 10 grandchildren, one step-granddaughter; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Ladies Auxiliary, Aerie #2883, F.O.E., Cresaptown, will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Dennis Metz Jr., Howard Metz, William Metz, Robert Cosner, Roger Metz, and Robbie Metz.

MILTON U. NORRIS III
LAVALE - Milton Urner ³Bummer² Norris III, 72, of 15 Deal Ave., LaVale, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 3, 1926, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Milton Urner Norris Jr. and the late Hazel R. (Morrison) Norris. He also was preceded in death by his wife, the late Carol Jane (Sanders) Norris on Jan. 1, 1987. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Norris was a retired employee of the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company. He was a member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Surviving are one daughter, Kathryn S. Norris, LaVale, and three grandchildren, Kayla Norris, Brandon Richards and Jeffery Richards Jr., LaVale.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted there Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. John J. Duffus officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
JAMES PAIGE III
CHARDON TOWNSHIP, Ohio - James Paige III, 38, of Chardon Township, formerly of Cumberland, Md., died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at his home.
He had been a resident of Cleveland prior to moving to Chardon Township.
He was born Sept. 20, 1960, in Bainbridge, Md., a son of James T. Jr. and Carol Paige.
Mr. Paige was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James T. and Anna F. Paige; and his maternal grandfather, Samuel Ashby.
He was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, Cumberland. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force. He was employed as a waiter at Ruth's Chris Steak House, Woodmere Village, and he enjoyed music, painting and writing.
In addition to his parents he is survived by two brothers, Alan, Crete, Ill., Kevin, Lenoir, N.C.; grandmother, Betty Ashby, Cumberland; and six nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at the McKendree Methodist Church, Cumberland, on Friday at 1 p.m.
Interment will be in Cumberland.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ritondaro Funeral Home, 126 South St., Chardon, Ohio.
FREDERICK R. METZNER
CUMBERLAND - Frederick R. Metzner, 60, of Barnes Drive, Cumberland, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born March 21, 1938, in Cumberland, he was the son of Margaret (Metzner) Bucklew, of LaVale. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Nace Bucklew; and a son, Joseph Eugene Metzner.
Mr. Metzner was Catholic by faith. He had been employed by Marriott Food Services at Frostburg State University.
Surviving are his wife, Myrna (Rosenberger) Metzner; a son, Fred R. Metzner Jr. and wife Tammy, Cumberland; a daughter, Vanessa A. (Metzner) DeVore and husband Bob, Cumberland; four grandchildren, Christy Matzner, Levi Metzner, Hayley DeVore and Laci Metzner, all of Cumberland; and mother-in-law, Agnes Rosenberger, Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Father Reginald Russo officiating.
Interment will follow in the Johnson Cemetery, Finzel.
Pallbearers will be Brian Rosenberger, Joe Metzner, Harry Rosenberger Jr., Lenny Metzner, Robert DeVore and Mike Wilhelm.
CLARENCE A. MEYERS
CUMBERLAND - Clarence A. "Porky" Meyers, 79, of Longs Hollow Road, SE, Cumberland, formerly of Humbird Street, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at the home of his sister, Billie R. Meyers and nephew Tony Johnson.
Born March 4, 1919, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Jacob Grover and Ruth (Miller) Meyers. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Virginia Meyers; one sister, Gloria Mackereth; and one brother, Adrien Meyers, on Feb. 23, 1999.
Mr. Meyers was a retired engineer for the Chessie System Railroad for 40 years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of Emmanuel Bethel United Methodist Church, East Gate Lodge 216 AF & AM, and Scottish Rite Bodies and was a charter member of the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 426, Mexico Farms, Cumberland.
Surviving are one son, Stephen A. Meyers and wife Diana, Cumberland; two grandsons, Nicholas A. Meyers and Shad C. Meyers; two sisters, Billie R. Meyers, with whom he resided, and Jacqueline House, Silver Spring; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Friday at 1 p.m. with Chaplain Diane Smith officiating.
Interment will be in the Davis Memorial Cemetery, Cumberland.
The family requests that contributions be made to the Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit, Memorial Avenue, Cumberland, MD 21502.
Pallbearers will be Howard Hovatter, Lester Houdersheldt, Albert Koch, Joey Evans, Gary M. Price and James E. Clark.
