EVELYN F. SHEELER
Evelyn F. Sheeler, 87, Westernport, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at the Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing, where she had been a resident.
Born Nov. 1, 1912, in Garrett County, she was a daughter of the late Walter W. and Ida C. (Merrill) Warnick. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Sheeler; two sisters, Maggie Foultz and Barbara "Mae" Burke; and three brothers, Roy, Rufford, and W. Luther Warnick. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was a member of the Westernport Church of the Brethren and the Eastern Star. She was retired from Westvaco Corporation with 45 years of service, and worked in the Quality Control Lab.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
There was no visitation. A private service was conducted at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, W.Va., with the Rev. Ervin Huston, pastor of the Brethren church, officiating. Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery, Rockwood, Pa., on Monday, May 1.
The family requests memorials take the form of contributions to the Westernport Church of the Brethren on Oakview Drive, Westernport, or to the Tri-Towns Rescue Squad.
DORIS DAYMUDE
Doris (Stone) Daymude, 85, Grantsville, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
She was born Sept. 24, 1914, in Connecticut.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton Daymude.
She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Grantsville. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a clerk for Peoples Drug Store, Gaithersburg.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where a service was conducted Saturday, April 29, with the Rev. Melodee Smith officiating. Interment was in the Grantsville Cemetery.

VERA J. DUCKWORTH
Vera J. Duckworth, 71, Swanton, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Oct. 16, 1928, in Baltimore, she was a daughter of the late Effie (Tasker) Duckworth. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Guy D. Duckworth, and a daughter, Sandra Harvey.
She was Catholic by faith.
Survivors include one son, Donald Duckworth, Swanton; one daughter, Joyce Sue Everett, Oakland; three sisters, Faye Grey, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Dorris Yoder, Crofton, and Rena Byrd, Dallas, N.C.; one brother, Franklin Tasker, Atlanta, Ga.; seven grand-children; and 26 great-grand-children.
Friends were received at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, W.Va., where a service was conducted Saturday, April 28, with the Rev. Ivan Lebar officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.

MABEL V. CRABLE
Mable Virginia (Harrison) Crable, 89, Lonaconing, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at the Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing, where she had been a resident.
She was born Oct. 4, 1910, in Kitzmiller, she was a daughter of the late Oroma Alonzo and Ida May (Frye) Harrison. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James V. Crable; two sisters, Naomi Simmons and Mary Hood; and four brothers, Samuel, Woodrow, Paul, and Thomas Harrison.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Homemakers, and the Hall of Fame, all in Lonaconing. She was a 4-H club leader for over 30 years, and was actively involved in that organization. She was retired from the Allegany County Board of Education as a cafeteria manager. She worked at Valley High School and Barton Elementary School.
Survivors include three sons, James Crable, Frostburg, Daniel F. Crable, Barton, and John M. Crable, Riner, Va.; three daughters, Helen J. Folk, Frostburg, Frances A. Schroades, Martinsburg, W.Va., and Carol M. Minnick, Finzel; one sister, Alice Lehman, Cleveland, Ohio; 22 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.
Friends were received at the Eichorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, where a service was conducted Saturday, April 29, with the Rev. Leslie R. Miles officiating. Interment was in Frostburg Memorial Park.

GARY E. FRIEND JR.
Gary Edwin Friend Jr., 37, Friendsville, died suddenly on Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born April 12, 1963, in Willoughby, Ohio, he was a son of Gary Edwin Friend Sr. and Leota Marlene (Lowdermilk) Friend, Friendsville. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Robert Lowdermilk.
He was a member of the Blooming Rose United Methodist Church, Friendsville, Woodmen of the World, Camp 45, Friendsville, and was employed as a truck driver for Pitt Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Teresa Marie (Friend) Friend; two sons, Gary Edwin Friend III, and Jimmie Dale Friend II, both at home; one brother, Dennis Ray Friend, Friendsville; one sister, Cynthia Lou Frantz, Friendsville; paternal grandparents, Gary Ray and Doris Friend, Friendsville; and maternal grandmother, Amanda Lowdermilk, Friendsville.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville. A service was conducted at the Blooming Rose United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 29, with the Rev. Robert Milliren and the Rev. Donald Matthews officiating. Interment followed in the Blooming Rose Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to an education trust fund being established for the deceased's sons.
HAROLD C. LIPSCOMB
Harold Clinton Lipscomb, 64, Grantsville, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at his home.
Born Aug. 29, 1935, in French Creek, W.Va., he was a son of Blanch B. (Neely) Lipscomb, French Creek, and the late Donald Lipscomb. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, a past president of the Grantsville Lions Club president of St. Paul's Church Council, Grantsville American Legion Post 214. and he coached the Lions Little League team for many years. He was the former owner-operator of Harold's TV and Systems and Harold's Home Furnishings. He was a U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam Conflict.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Garnet M. "Boots" (Messersmith) Lipscomb; four sons, Donald L. Lipscomb and Robert E. Lipscomb, both of Grantsville, Ronald C. Lipscomb, Avilton, and Rodney A. Lipscomb, Frostburg; one daughter, Sharon L. Lipscomb, Grantsville; two sisters, Eleanor Cline, Weirton, W.Va., and Doris Greene, Buckhannon, W.Va.; and six grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where a service was conducted earlier today, May 4, with Pastor Brenda Shreve officiating. Interment was in the Grantsville Cemetery.
RUTH M. FIKE
Ruth Marie Fike, 82, Markleysburg, Pa., died Monday, May 1, 2000, at her home.
Born Feb. 19, 1918, in Fearer, she was a daughter of the late William Reese and Emma (Frazee) Reese Frantz. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Claude C. Fike.
She was a member of the Asher Glade Church of the Brethren and was a homemaker.
Surviving are three sons, Vernon P. Teets, Barberton, Ohio, W. Wayne Teets, Akron, Ohio, and Melvin E. Fike, Markleysburg; one daughter, Linda E. Tressler, Confluence, Pa.; two stepdaughters, Shirley Potter, Middletown, Va., and Lila Griffith, Pittsburgh; two brothers, Darwin Reese, Bruceton Mills, W.Va., and Paul Reese, Friendsville; one halfbrother, Lee Frantz, Friendsville; one sister, Verna Sisler, Friendsville; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville. A service was conducted at 1 p.m. today, May 4, at the Asher Glade Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Samuel Moon officiating. Interment was in the Asher Glade Cemetery.
DENVER P. MCCABE SR.
Denver P. McCabe Sr., 77, Glen Burnie, formerly of Oakland, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at the Harbor Hospital, Baltimore.
Born Nov. 22, 1922, in Crellin, he was a son of the late Marshall and Daisy (DeWitt) McCabe. He was also preceded in death by one son, Denver P. McCabe Jr.
He was a retired bus driver for the Greyhound Bus Lines, and was a member of the Church of Christ. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member and past commander of Aurora-Terra Alta VFW Post 578, Terra Alta, W.Va.
Survivors include his wife, Winona I. (George) McCabe; one daughter, Linda G. Myers, Brooklyn Park; one son, Marshall K. McCabe, Glen Burnie; one brother, Darrell E. McCabe, Youngstown, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, the time of the service, with the Rev. Russell McConnell officiating. Interment will be in the Terra Alta Cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the various veterans organizations in southern Garrett County.
THAYER W. SANDERS
Thayer Walter Sanders, 79, Mtn. Lake Park, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Nov. 23, 1920, in Oakland, he was a son of the late Austin P. and Lulu (Grimes) Sanders.
He was a retired heavy equipment operator, having worked for the Buffalo Coal Company, William Shirer Construction Company, and Devlin, Inc. He attended the Oak Park Church of the Brethren and was a member of Camp 11, Woodmen of the World.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha (Davis) Sanders; four daughters, Ardis Teets, Eglon, W.Va., Helen Sanders, Cumberland, Karen Fint, Texas, and Lydia Dawson, Elkins, W.Va.; one son, Eric Sanders, Oakland; two brothers, James Sanders and Harvey Sanders, both of Oakland; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchildren; and an additional family member, Robert Fint, Hawaii.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday. A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, May 5, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Mel Menker and the Rev. Don Matthews officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery.
WOODROW W. SPESSERT
Woodrow Wilson "Bill" Spessert, 86, Clarksburg, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at the Longview Nursing Home, Manchester.
Born Aug. 2, 1913, on White Ridge, near St. George, W.Va., he was a son of the late George William and Ethel Grace (White) Spessert. He was also preceded in death on Jan. 30, 1999, by his wife, Ruth Doraline (Kisner) Spessert, whom he married Jan. 13, 1937, near Red House. He was also preceded in death by five sisters and one brother.
He attended the one-room school on Stemple Ridge, W.Va. He made his early living as a farmer and woodsman. During World War II, he and his wife were employed at Maritn's Aircraft Company. Following the war he worked several yers in highway construction throughout West Virginia as a mechanic and welder. He owned a garage in Aurora, W.Va., in the late 1950s. He was also employed at Rockville Crushed Stone, Inc. He was a member of the Germantown Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Windon, Frederick, and Carol Snyder, Hanover, Pa.; one son, Larry Spessert, Frederick; one sister, Isabel Simmons, Porterwood, W.Va.; one brother, George W. Spessert Jr., White Ridge; seven grand-children; and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, on Friday, May 5, from 6 to 8 p.m., the time of the service, with the Rev. Kenneth R. Fell officiating.
A second service is set for Saturday, May 6, at 2 p.m., at the Limestone United Methodist Church, St. George, with vistitation at the church one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Robert M. Leard will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
