JEWEL P. ZAWASKI
CUMBERLAND - Jewel P. Zawaski, 86, of Cumberland, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at the Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit.
Born March 10, 1913, in Great Cacapon, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Roy G. and Cora (Shanholtz) Henry. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. Zawaski Sr., on Jan. 7, 1994; three brothers, Lester, Clyde and Rodney; and one sister, Thelma.
A former resident of Rosewood Street, she had lived with her daughter, Janice R. Harper and her husband Floyd in White Oaks before moving to the Cumberland Nursing Center, where she currently was residing.
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by her son, Frank J. Zawaski, Cumberland; two grandsons, Richard E. Haines and wife Betty, Cumberland, whom she reared, and Bryan G. Harper and wife Cheryl, Cumberland; one granddaughter, Michele R. Ankeny and husband Tyler, Berlin, Pa.; one great-grandson, Sean G. Harper; three step-grandchildren, Kimberly A. Baumann and husband Robert, Glen Burnie, Alison L. Snider, Cumberland, and Gregory J. Snider, Cumberland. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by many special people whom she dearly loved.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James McMahon officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
ROYCE A. WILSON
CUMBERLAND - Royce Austin Wilson, 76, of Cumberland, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit.
Born Dec. 9, 1922, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Samuel A. Wilson and the late Adaline E. (Twigg) Wilson. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Thornton Wilson, Carl Wilson, Harvey Wilson and Kenneth Wilson; and one sister, Nettie Wilson.
Mr. Wilson was retired from the Cumberland Steel Company where he was the shipping supervisor. He was a member of UCT. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II with the Corps of Engineers where he was awarded the Purple Heart.
Surviving are his wife, Verna 'Betty' (Robinette) Wilson, Cumberland; a son, Sam Wilson and wife, Cathy, Cumberland; a granddaughter, Amanda Lynn Wilson, Cumberland; two sisters, Pauline Raines and husband, John, Cumberland, and Elizabeth Schwenning and husband, Ernie, Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with the Rev. Tom Landaker officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit or to the American Cancer Society.
CLARENCE "ROBBIE" ROBISON
CUMBERLAND - Clarence "Robbie" Robison, 51, of Cedarwood Drive, Cumberland, died Wednesday, June 9, 1999, in Washington Hospital Medical Center, Washington, D.C. He was born on July 10, 1947, in Frostburg. He was predeceased by his mother, Mildred McElvie Zarger, and his step-father, Benjamin Zarger.
Robbie started his real estate career at Haywood Agency Inc., Frostburg, as a real estate agent, Sales Manager, and then Branch Manager/Broker from 1973 to 1977. He was a broker/Coordinator for ERA Goodfellow Agency Inc. in 1977-1978 and their Vice President from 1979-1991. In 1991 he became co-owner of Robison & Skidmore Professional Real Estate Services, LaVale. He presently was an instructor of Real Estate Principles and Practices at Allegany College.
Robbie was a U.S. Army Reserve Veteran, serving active duty with the Military Police. Active with many business and civic organizations, Robbie was a member of National and Maryland Real Estate Appraisers, National and Maryland Association of Realtors, Cumberland Board of Realtors in which he served as President in 1980, and on the board of directors from 1980-1984. He served on the Maryland Association of Realtors Real Estate Commission Liaison Committee, Maryland Association of Realtors Real Estate Education Committee, Maryland Real Estate Educators Association, Robbie was Realtor of the Year in 1989 and was presented with a gold pin, Georges Creek Valley Lodge #161, A.F. & A.M., Lonaconing, Garfield R.A. Chapter #30, Cumberland, Antioch Commandary #90, Cumberland, Boy Scouts of America, Potomac Council, and served on the Executive Board, Allegany County Vocational/Technical Foundation member, Center for Career & Technical Education, Board of Directors.
Survivors include his wife, Janice (Lewis) Robison; a son, David B. Robison, Cumberland; a sister, Peggy Swauger, LaVale; mother-in-law, Mildred R. Lewis; nephew, James Swauger, LaVale; and niece, Renae Holt, Frostburg.
Friends will be received in the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday, June 14, 1999, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Georges Creek Valley Lodge #161 A.F. & A.M. will conduct Masonic Services on Sunday at 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Robbie to the American Heart Association. MARGARET E. 'DOLL' ROBERTSON
MOUNT SAVAGE - Margaret E. 'Doll' Robertson, 77, of Mount Savage, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born May 11, 1921, in Borden, she was the daughter of the late Harman and Julia Ann (Porter) Lashbaugh. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Robertson Sr.
Mrs. Robertson was a member of Mount Savage United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Ronald Lashbaugh and wife, Colleen, Frostburg, Charles Robertson Jr., Mount Savage, and Bob Robertson and wife, Carolyn, LaVale; seven grandchildren, Lisa Diehl, Michele Filer, Geneen Sivic, Charles Robertson, Julie Miller, Kristy Lashbaugh and Kimberly Maynard; nine great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Harman Lashley, Mount Savage.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Broome Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in Mount Savage Methodist Cemetery.
CHARLES M. "SKINNER" WHARTON
CUMBERLAND - Charles M. "Skinner" Wharton, 61, of 12001 Williams Road, Cumberland, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Dec. 18, 1937, in Fort Ashby, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles Llewellyn Wharton and Sylvia Lee (Royer) Wharton. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Lee Moore and Betty Sue Wharton; and a brother, Walter L. Wharton.
Mr. Wharton was retired from the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company, was owner operator of Rock Lodge Service Station on Martin's Mountain, and was co-owner of Wharton's Hair Styles. He attended Cumberland Grace Brethren Church and Mountain Top Holiness Church. He enjoyed composing music and playing the guitar with his friends and was an avid hunter and sportsman. He greatly enjoyed his family and was a friend to many.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann (Rexroad) Wharton; a son, Brian L. Wharton and wife, Kimberly, Cumberland; a grandson, Zachary Tyler Wharton, Cumberland; two brothers, Vernon Wharton and wife, Susan, Cumberland, and T. Duane Wharton, Hagerstown; three sisters, Mary L. Owens and husband, Jim, Baltimore, Shirley J. Rice and husband, Bill, Flintstone, Ann D. Allari, Erlanger, Ky.; several nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ray McCoy and the Rev. Glenn Jones officiating.
Interment will be in Mount Hermon Cemetery.
The family requests that donations be made to Cumberland Grace Brethren Church or to Mount Holiness Church.
IDA M. SNYDER
MOUNT SAVAGE - Ida Mae Snyder, 76, of 13106 Yellow Row Road, NW, Mount Savage, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 11, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born May 3, 1923, in Sandpatch, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Frank R. and Edna Mae (Mishler) Brown. Her husband, Allan E. Snyder Sr., also preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 1997.
Mrs. Snyder formerly worked at several jobs, one of which was at the former blouse factory in Cumberland.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mount Savage, and lived her belief every day of her life.
Mrs. Snyder had a great love for flowers, especially roses. She enjoyed sewing, quilts and crafts, and made wonderful raspberry pies. Her greatest love was family and friends.
Surviving are three sons, Allan E. Snyder Jr. and wife Peggy, Frostburg, Gary E. Snyder and wife Sharon, Mount Savage, and Larry T. Snyder and wife Roxann, Mount Savage; two daughters, Karen M. Snyder, Cumberland, and Linda L. Yates, Mount Savage; six grandchildren, Jeff, Jennifer, Scott, Trissa, Bobby and Renee; a great-grandchild, Megan; four sisters, Mabel Bahr, Stevensville, Nettie Brown, Somerset, Pa., Ruth Romesberg, Meyersdale, Pa., and Betty Gaughan, Cumberland; and a brother, Robert Brown, Meyersdale.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Tuesday, July 13, 1999, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the United Methodist Church, Mount Savage, on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard C. Broome Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in the Methodist Cemetery, Mount Savage.
Pallbearers will be Richard Gaughan, Joe Romesberg, Doug Brown, J.R. Lashley, Jim Frankenberry and Carl Hampton.
