ELSIE STEVANUS
CRESAPTOWN - Elsie (Bowman) Stevanus, 88, of Cresaptown, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at the Devlin Manor Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 28, 1911, in Boynton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Edison S. and Olive (Blough) Bowman. She also was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.
Mrs. Stevanus was a member of Cresaptown United Methodist Church and was a member of the Mary Martha Sunday School class.
Surviving are her husband of 71 years, Arthur Lawrence Stevanus; sons, Fay E. Stevanus, Altoona, Pa., Harold A. Stevanus, Cresaptown, and Ray A. Stevanus, Charlotte, N.C.; daughters, Freda J. Crowe, Bel Air, and Pauline S. Winters, Cresaptown; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating.
Interment will follow in the Salisbury Cemetery, Salisbury, Pa.
Contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Cresaptown United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 5206, Cresaptown, MD 21505.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
VIVIAN M. ROBERTS
LITTLE ORLEANS - Vivian M. Roberts, age 71, of Boden Road, N.E., died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born May 20, 1927, at Piney Grove, she was the daughter of the late John D. and Minnie B. (Jerome) Norris.
She was formerly a waitress for Weaver's Restaurant in Hancock for five years and also for H&D; Restaurant in Cumberland for 10 years. She was a seasonal Fire Spotter at the Town Hill Fire Tower, and she attended the Fletcher and Piney Grove schools.
She was a member of the Piney Plains United Methodist Church, a member of the Ladies Aid at the church, and a 50-year member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Webster B. Harrison Post #26 American Legion in Hancock.
She is survived by her husband, Howard L. Roberts, Little Orleans, whom she married
Oct. 26, 1944, at Piney Plains United Methodist Church in Little Orleans; one daughter, Shirley Jean Grieves, Oldtown; one son, Garry L. Roberts, Little Orleans; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Goldie Trail, Bessie Joy, Helen Smith and Edna Watson; five brothers, Albert Norris, Allen Norris, Donald Norris, Albin Norris and Thomas Norris.
Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no visitation or viewing.

CORNELIA C. STUMP
CUMBERLAND - Cornelia C. Stump, 77, of 12301 Beckley Drive N.E., Cumberland, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Oct. 22, 1921, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late William C. Collins and Ada B. (Lamp) Collins. She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Lee A. Collins, Chester C. Collins, and William C. "Shorty" Collins; and one sister, Winona P. Hill.
Mrs. Stump was a former employee of G.C. Murphy Company and the Celanese Corporation. She drove a school bus and a milk truck for the family business known as Maplelawn Dairy. She was office manager and dental assistant for 37 years for her husband, Dr. Blair W. Stump.
Mrs. Stump was a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church, the Cumberland Chapter #56 Order of the Eastern Star, Maryland State Dental Society Auxiliary, Allegany County Dental Society Auxiliary and South Cumberland Businessmen's Association.
Surviving are her husband, Dr. Blair W. Stump; one daughter, Linda C. Stump, Morgantown, W.Va.; one beloved sister and best friend, Marguerite C. Willison, Bedford Road, Cumberland; one brother, Wilbur A. Collins, Rawlings; a loving sister-in-law, Hilda Jo Ritts; particularly close and loved and was supportive to her nieces and nephews; and loyal and faithful companions, Wicket, Lakita and Toshia.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted there on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Jewell officiating.
Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Kingsley United Methodist Church, Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va., or Allegany County Animal Shelter.
PAUL R. WINKLER
WESTERNPORT - Paul Robert Winkler, 72, of 248 Main St., Westernport, died Thursday, April 15, 1999, at home.
Born Jan. 24, 1927, in Westernport, he was the son of the late William R. and Dolly (Mangold) Winkler. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ellen (Teets) Cummings Winkler.
Mr. Winkler was retired from the maintenance department of Hampshire Memorial Hospital. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and was a past commander of the Keyser VFW. He was also a member of Victory Post #155 American Legion, Westernport, and the Queens Point VFW Post #6775, McCoole.
He is survived by four sons, Lee Winkler, Westernport, Robert Winkler, Linwood, Pa., Paul Winkler and Edward Winkler, both of Keyser, W.Va.; four daughters, Rhonda Maloney, Hagerstown, Patty Winkler, Fay Winkler and Becky Winkler, all of Keyser; a stepson, Raymond Cummings, Westernport; three sisters, Dottie Mangold, Clarksburg, W.Va., Betty Crite and Mary Kephart, both of Keyser; and 14 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Saturday, April 17, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Steffan Carr officiating.
Interment will follow in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser, where full military honors will be accorded at graveside.
MARGARET G. THOMAS
FROSTBURG - Margaret G. Thomas, 91, of 53 Stoyer St., Frostburg, died Saturday, April 24, 1999, at her residence.
Born Feb. 5, 1908, in Grahamtown, she was the daughter of the late William D. and Marion (Hutcheson) Thomas. She also was preceded in death by five brothers; and one sister. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Thomas was retired from the Michael Berkowitz Pajama Factory as a press operator. She was the oldest surviving member of the First Presbyterian Church, Frostburg, and was a member of the Frostburg Senior Citizens.
Surviving are one niece, Betty Ann (Thomas) Prichard and husband William B. Prichard; four great-nieces, Karen Barnes, Susan Nadenichek, Linda Brodell and Carol Haering; 13 great-great- nieces and nephews; and several cousins including Lillian Ferrens who had been her care giver.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Monday from 3 to 7 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Steve Shussett officiating.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be James Barnes, Dr. Robert Brodell, Franklin Haering, Martin Nadenichek and Larry Ferrens.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the First Presbyterian Church, Frostburg, or Hospice Home Care of Sacred Heart.
JOHN C. SHINGLER
WESTERNPORT - John Calvin Shingler, 74, of 21204 Creekside Drive, Westernport, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Dec. 25, 1924, in Franklin, he was the son of the late George L. and Rosetta (Trenum) Shingler. He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Shingler, Richard Shingler and George Shingler.
Mr. Shingler was a former employee of Moran Coal Company. He was past president of the Potomac Fire Company where he was a member for 23 years.
Surviving are his wife, Katherine (Greco) Shingler; one son, Jeffrey Allen Shingler, Westernport; one brother, Harold Logsdon, Westernport; a nephew, Donnie Shingler, Eckhart; a niece, Pearl Gebens, Baltimore, both of whom he raised; and many other nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, Thursday, Nov. 11 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted there Friday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Lester Clifford officiating.
Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser, W.Va.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
