RUTH V. RANDALL
FREDERICK - Ruth V. Randall, 97, formerly of Cumberland, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at the Citizens Nursing Home, Frederick.
Born on June 11, 1902, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late James Matthew and Anna (Anderson) Matthew. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leslie E. Randall, who died Sept. 17, 1985; also preceding her in death was, one sister; and two brothers.
Mrs. Randall was a retired Registered Nurse, a member of Centre Street United Methodist Church and the Elisabeth Circle of the United Methodist Women, a member of the DAR of Cumberland.
Surviving are two daughters, Leslie Ann McIntyre and husband, Donald, Palm Harbor, Fla., Nancy Rosenmerkel, Frederick; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Jeanne Disney, Baltimore.
Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland, MD 21502, on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home, on Saturday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Lloyd B. McCanna, officiating.
Interment will be at the Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Members of the Centre Street United Methodist Men's Club will serve as pallbearers.
JESSE F. SHIPLEY
CRESAPTOWN - Jesse Franklin Shipley, 84, formerly of Cresaptown, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at Meyersdale Manor Nursing Home.
Born Oct. 2, 1914, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Roy Clove and Edna (O'Neil) Shipley.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Jane (Clayton) Shipley, in 1979; and one brother, Robert Shipley.
Mr. Shipley was retired from Fisher Body/General Motors in Baltimore.
He attended Cresaptown Assembly of God Church and was a charter member of the F.O.E., Aerie #2883, Cresaptown.
Survivors include one son, the Rev. Joseph F. Shipley, Bayside, N.Y.; one daughter, Patricia Ellen Ball, Ontario, Canada; one brother, John Shipley, Cumberland; three sisters, Etta Mae Emerick, Davie, Fla., Ada Diehl, Rainesburg, Pa., and Gertrude; four grandchildren, Steven and Christy Ball, Ontario, and Lisa and Joseph Shipley, Bayside; and special friends, Bill and Sis Dicken, Bowling Green.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Joseph F. Shipley officiating.
Interment will be in Zion Memorial Park.
HAZEL I. STALLINGS
CUMBERLAND - Hazel I. Stallings, 89, of 5 Weber St., Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at Lions Manor Nursing Home.
Born July 7, 1909, in Rock Oak, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late David Riggleman and the late Phoebie (Eversole) Riggleman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Carlton Stallings, in 1968; two stepsons, Lesley and Robert Stallings; six sisters, Edith Funkhouser, Aleatha Bowman, Rose Derlan, Mabel Skelly, Myrtle George, Hulda Moreland; and four brothers, Ralph, William, Harvey and Lyon Riggleman.
Mrs. Stallings was a cook at the Golden Gate Tea Room in Cumberland and a member of Melvin United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Lillian Blacklin and husband, Harry, 5 Weber St., Cumberland; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Jane Mertens and husband, Robert, Bedford Road, Cumberland, Mrs. Betty Iames and husband, Dr. William, Cumberland, Mrs. Marylyn Kennell and husband, Leroy, Cooks Mill, Pa.; two stepsons, Edgar Stallings and wife, Gladys, Hyndman, Pa., Roy C. Stallings Jr. and wife, Marlene, Juction, Wisc.; one granddaughter, Patricia Knippenberg and husband, Dennis, Cumberland; two great-granddaughters, Kimberly Hauser, Baltimore, and Michelle Bishop and husband, Richard, Richmond, Va.; one great-grandson, Craig Knippenberg, Cumberland; three great-great-granddaughters, Kristen, Lauren and Kelsey Knippenberg, Cumberland; numerous step and step-great-grandchildren; and step-great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home by the Rev. Dan Taylor.
Burial will be in Rest Lawn Cemetery.
MINNIE WHITACRE
KITZMILLER - Minnie Whitacre, age 87, of Kitzmiller, passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born June 17, 1911, in Kitzmiller, she was a daughter of the late William and Birdie (Wilson) Harvey. Mrs. Whitacre was preceded in death by her husband, Truman W. Whitacre; an infant son, George; and an infant daughter, Betty.
She is survived by one son, Robert Whitacre, Kitzmiller; two daughter, Doris Junkins, Deer Park, and Joan McLaughlin, Mountain Lake Park; a brother, Charles Ray Harvey, Akron, Ohio; three sisters, Myrtle Paugh and Mildred Sharpless, both of Kitzmiller, and Abigale Davis, Talmadge, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Meredith Ball officiating.
Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Elk Garden, W.Va.
KENNETH E. TICHINEL
KITZMILLER - Kenneth Everitt Tichinel, 68, of Kitzmiller, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 1999, in the Garrett County Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 6, 1931, in Mount Zion, he was the son of the late John and Percy (Paugh) Tichinel.
Mr. Tichinel was a retired coalminer and an Army Veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife, Alta (Dixon) Tichinel; one son, Tim Tichinel, Kitzmiller; two daughters, Geraldine Dawson and Carole Kent, both of Kitzmiller; two brothers, Stanley Tichinel, Swanton, and Earl Tichinel, Aliquippa, Pa.; two sisters, Pauline Lambka, Elk Garden, W.Va., and Marie Brown, Swanton; and 13 grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Braithwaite officiating.
Interment will be in the Turner Cemetery, Walnut Bottom.
CHARLES R. RAPP JR.
CUMBERLAND - Charles R. Rapp Jr., 70, of Bel Air, Cumberland, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 7, 1928, in Sewickley, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles R. Rapp Sr. and Camille (Rihn) Rapp.
Mr. Rapp was self-employed as a logistics manager for Smith and Nephew Orthopedics. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines. He was a graduate of Duquesne University, Pittsburgh. He was a former township supervisor of Moon Township, Pa.; a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Cresaptown; and a former choir director for the church.
Surviving are his wife, Loretta (Szafaryn) Rapp; three daughters, Leslie A. Mullaney and husband Terry, Bel Air, Nancy Rapp and husband Thomas Smart, Charlotte, N.C.; and Susan Tuell, Gainesville, Va.; one son, Charles W. Rapp and wife Denise Olexa, Charlotte; three sisters, Camille Cambier and husband Dennis, Industry, Pa., Mary Lukas and husband Ronald, Hammonton, N.J., and Carol Fausti, Conway, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Ryan Michael, Todd Andrew and David Charles Mullaney, Bel Air, Matthew Charles Rapp, Lauren Loretta Rapp and Merritt Kathleen Rapp Smart, all of Charlotte, and Austin Charles and Zachary Vincent Tuell, Gainesville; and granddoggy Fifi, Charlotte.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake will be conducted Wednesday at 8:45 p.m.
Services will be conducted at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. with Father Reginald Russo, O.F.M., Cap., as celebrant.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
SHIRLEY J. RAWLINGS
PASCO, Wash. - Our beloved mother, nanny, sister and friend, Shirley J. (Reckley) Rawlings, age 68, of Pasco, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at Lourdes Medical Center in Pasco.
She was born Feb. 22, 1930, in Cumberland, Md. Shirley was the first child of Paul and Charity Reckley.
She was married
to Roy E. Rawlings in 1948 and traveled the world during his military career. They retired in the Tri-Cities in 1966.
Shirley loved bingo and Bible study fellowship and was an avid crossword worker.
She is survived by her sister, Pauline Brown, Clearville, Pa.; daughters, Sharon L. Long and husband, Rick, Pasco, and Sue Bumpaous and husband, Mike, Pasco; six grandchildren, Scott, Jennifer, Charity, Michelle, Heather and Josh; five great-grandchildren, Michael, Samantha, Christian, Devan and Madison; and two nieces; and one nephew.
Shirley was preceded in death by her mother and father; and her brother, Thomas Reckley. At her request, there were no services.
Mueller's Greenlee Funeral Home, Pasco, was in charge of arrangements.
