RUTH REED
CUMBERLAND - Ruth Reed, 88, of Cumberland, formerly of Barrelville, died Friday, Sept. 3, 1999, at the Cumberland Nursing Home.
Born July 13, 1911, in Midlothian, she was the daughter of the late Durbin and Orpha Jane (College) Hockenberry. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Reed; three brothers, Vernon Hockenberry, Carl Hockenberry and Ernest Hockenberry; and three sisters, Edith McCoy, Helen Clinedinst and Hazel Cowgill.
Mrs. Reed was a former member of the Barrelville Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are one sister, Mildred Cowgill, Paw Paw, W.Va.; one brother, Kenneth Roy Hockenberry, Brooksville, Fla,; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 12:30 p.m. with Elder Peter M. Goetschius officiating.
Interment will be in the Mount Savage Methodist Cemetery.
MYRTLE K. YOST
CUMBERLAND - Myrtle "Bee" K. Yost, 85, of Cumberland, passed away Friday, July 23, 1999, at the Cumberland Nursing Home.
She was born Nov. 9, 1913, in Hancock, daughter of the late John R. and Mary Catherine (Garlick) Roman. She also was preceded in death by two husbands, Leland Northcraft and Harry L. Yost; one brother; and one sister.
Mrs. Yost was retired from the Allegany County Board of Education.
Mrs. Yost was affiliated with Centre Street United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Cumberland Aerie 245, Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Survivors include one son, Harry James Yost and wife Esther, Suitland; one granddaughter, Laura Grund and husband Jay; a sister, Mrs. Eve Cameron and husband John; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. William Bice officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
JOHN W. WHITEHEAD
CUMBERLAND - John Wesley Whitehead, 76, of 109 Park St., Cumberland, died Tuesday, July 20, 1999, at Martinsburg Veterans Administration Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Jan. 26, 1923, in Laurel, he was the son of the late Walter G. Whitehead and the late Viola S. (Green) Whitehead. He was also preceded in death by a brother, William Whitehead; and a sister, Rose Smith.
Mr. Whitehead was a retired brick layer. He was a member of the Fort Cumberland Post No. 13 American Legion. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
Surviving are his daughter, Shirley Souder, Mount Jackson, Va.; three sisters, Mildred Day, Skagesville, Alice Simpson, Clarksville, and Anna Rice, Laurel; three grandsons; one granddaughter; and two great-granddaughters.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 9 to 10 a.m.
Services will be conducted on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A. with the Rev. Wayne R. Turner officiating.
Interment will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Roger Michael, Louis "Kojak" Wickard Sr., Bob Bean, Ray Nixon, Sylvester Lepley and Bob Nines. Honorary pallbearers will be Chester Burgess, Harvey Linn and Pat Shaffer.
JOHN C. WEISENMILLER SR.
CUMBERLAND - John C. Weisenmiller Sr., 76, of Cumberland, died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 13, 1922, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late William and Mary Weisenmiller. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy A. (Bowman) Weisenmiller; and two sisters, Margaret C. Berg and Mary Anna Hook.
Mr. Weisenmiller was a retired mechanic at Old Export Brewery. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion, Fort Cumberland Post #13.
Surviving are two sons, Richard D. Bowman and wife, Tia, Goodlettsville, Tenn., and John C. Weisenmiller Jr., Cumberland; two grandchildren, Rick J. Weisenmiller and Roseanne, Cumberland, and Sherry Lynn Weisenmiller, Cumberland; two great-grandchildren, Destiny Marie Smith and Austin J. Weisenmiller; several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home Thursday at 10 a.m.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be John Shipley, Charles Griffith, Ray Nixon, Bob Aldridge, Buck Gephart and Curt Miller.
MARY F. REIBER
CUMBERLAND - Mary Frances Reiber, 75, of 808 Ashland Ave., Cumberland, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at her home.
Born Nov. 5, 1924, in Locust Grove, she was the daughter of the late John William Bergman and the late Bessie Virginia (Long) Bergman. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Bergman.
Mrs. Reiber was a switchboard operator and tower operator for the Chessie System. She was a member of Park Place United Methodist Church; a 56-year member of the Fort Cumberland Post 13 American Legion Auxiliary; and a member of Henry Hart Post 1411 VFW Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary, and Women of the Moose 914.
Surviving are a brother, Eugene W. Bergman and wife June, Nampa, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Lee Brotemarkle officiating.
Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
BLAINE REICHENBECHER
GRANTSVILLE - Blaine Reichenbecher, 80, of 2540 Pigs Ear Road, Grantsville, Md., died Saturday, June 19, 1999, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born Sept. 4, 1918, near Grantsville, he was a son of the late Albert G. and Stella (Folk) Reichenbecher and was also preceded in death by a sister, Violet Kendzora.
He was a retired mechanic for the former Casselman Motor Co., Keyser's Ridge Garage, and Blaine's Garage. Mr. Reichenbecher was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church (ELCA), Cove.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Freda Grace (Bowser) Reichenbecher; a son, Joey B. Reichenbecher, Grantsville; a daughter, Judy L. Schlossnagle, Columbiana, Ohio; two brothers, Vernon "Tom" Reichenbecher and Homer "Rick" Reichenbecher, both of Accident, Md.; and two sisters, Beulah Phelps, Accident, and Marge Menges, Grantsville; four grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Roland E. Nairn III officiating.
Interment will be in the Addison Cemetery.
