KATHLEEN E. SUMMERS
CUMBERLAND - Kathleen Ellen Summers, 87, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, April 27, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born April 17, 1912, in Three Churches, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Philip A. and Minnie M. (Brown) Lewis. She also was preceded in death by her husband, James E. 'Shorty' Summers; one sister, Mary Largent; two brothers, Melvin and John W. Lewis; a half-sister, Carrie Johns; and seven half-brothers, Dayton, Edward, Shaw, Dale and Ira Lewis, Keck and Arthur Brown.
Mrs. Summers was a homemaker and a member of Davis Memorial United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one sister, Abbie L. Zimmerman, Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was conducted at the Davis Memorial cemetery on Saturday at 9 a.m. with the Rev. Theodore D. Higby officiating.
Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., is in charge of arrangements.
ANNA L. SNYDER
LAVALE - Anna L. Snyder, 90, of LaVale, died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, in Memorial Hospital.
Born April 11, 1909, in Meyersdale, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elda Beal. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Howard J. Snyder; one son, Joseph H. Snyder; two brothers, Earl and Elwood Beal; and two sisters, Mable Danver and Julia Lapham.
Mrs. Snyder was a member of the LaVale United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Bruce Snyder and wife Audrey, LaVale, and Larry Snyder and wife Linda, LaVale; one daughter-in-law, Betty Snyder, Chestertown; one brother, Richard Beal and wife Arlene, Ashtabula, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Darlene Arnholt, John Snyder, Joseph Snyder, Bruce Snyder, Sindy Paris, Rodney Snyder, Brian Snyder, Wayne Snyder, Melissa Hancox, and Amy Snyder; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Bernadette Ross officiating.
Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, John Snyder, Joseph Snyder, Bruce Snyder, Rodney Snyder, Brian Snyder and Wayne Snyder.
ISABEL SWEITZER
FROSTBURG - Isabel Sweitzer, 81, of 48 Tarn Terrace, Frostburg, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Oct. 2, 1918, in Ocean, she was the daughter of the late William and Emma (Lancaster) Evans. In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton E. Sweitzer, and was the last member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Sweitzer was a homemaker and a member of the Shaft United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Donna Winner and husband John, Baltimore, Sharon Ashby and husband Bob, Frostburg, and Melissa Rank and husband Gary, Montgomery, Ala.; five grandchildren, Cindy Farmer, Jack Winner, both of Baltimore, Bob Ashby Jr., Cockeysville, Mark Ashby, Frostburg, and Katelin Rank, Montgomery, Ala.; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Shaft United Methodist Church on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Neva Leatherwood officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jack Winner, Bob Ashby Jr., Mark Ashby, Bill Farmer, Billy Farmer, Tom Farmer, and Shawn Winner.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Shaft United Methodist Church, or the American Heart Association.
RUTH V. SPESSARD
HAGERSTOWN - Ruth V. Coldsmith Spessard, 99, of Homewood Retirement Center, Williamsport, formerly of 400 Key Circle, Hagerstown, died on Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at Homewood.
She was preceded in death by her husband, V. Roy Spessard in 1970.
Born May 6, 1899, near Scotland, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Frank Theodore and Mary Emily Cleverstone Coldsmith. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Hagerstown, and a member of the Temple Builders Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Spessard is survived by one daughter, Patricia A. Witmer, LaVale; one son, Kevin L. Spessard Sr., Hagerstown; one sister, Vernoll Jones, Lancaster, Pa.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Leah Marie Spessard; one grandson, James Edward Spessard; one stepson, Leon L. Spessard; step-grandsons, Leon V. and Harold E. Spessard; two sisters, A. Marie Coldsmith and Hazel Beam; three brothers, Paul C. Coldsmith, D. Beattie Coldsmith and Edgar F. Coldsmith.
Funeral services were held at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown, by the Rev. Darryl Zoller, APC OSL, and the Rev. Robert S. Barton. Interment was in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

DERRICK C. SPIKER - DYLON R. SPIKER
CUMBERLAND - Derrick Cole Spiker, infant, died May 8, 1999, and twin brother Dylon Robert Spiker, infant, died May 10, 1999, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born May 8, 1999, the twins are the sons of Sandra A. Puffenbarger.
In addition to their mother, they are survived by one brother, Brett Spiker, at home; maternal grandparents, Barbara and Jack Spiker, Cumberland, and Chuck Puffenbarger, Tennessee; two aunts, Christina Puffenbarger and Teresa Hart, both of Cumberland.
A graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Burial Park on Friday, May 14, 1999, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating.
The Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, is in charge of arrangements.
ELMER T. STEELE
ZIHLMAN - Elmer T. "Barney" Steele, 86, of Zihlman, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born June 2, 1912, he was the son of the late Herman and Mary (Logsdon) Steele. He also was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Steele was a retired coal miner and a member of the Piney Mountain Sportsman Club.
Surviving are two daughters, Atheldia Steele and Catherine Butler, both of Zihlman; one son, Thomas T. Steele, Jessup; two sisters, Martha Wright, Eckhart, and Alice Harden, Morantown; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George Harpold officiating.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.
MILDRED R. VETTER
OAKLAND - Mildred R. Vetter, 82, of Oakland, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at her home.
Born March 20, 1917, in Westernport, she was a daughter of the late Gilbert H. Robinette and Myrtle (Grove) Robinette. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Landon R. Vetter, in 1978; and one son, Harlen L. "Sonny" Vetter.
Surviving are three daughters, Delores J. McCarty and husband Donald, Bowie, Mary Lou Stemple and husband Donald, Oakland, and Eleanor M. Callis and husband Donald, Oakland; one sister, Emogene Kite, Fairfax, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ann Harrison officiating.
Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
