NORMA E. SHEPHERD
SUMMERVILLE, S.C. - Norma Eloise Shepherd, 76, of Summerville, formerly of Swanton, Md., died July 3, 1999, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 21, 1923, in Swanton, a daughter of Dana E. Rhodes Lockard, Cumberland, Md., and the late Lawrence C. Lockard . She was also preceded in death by her husband, John W. Shepherd Jr.
Mrs. Shepherd had been employed as a secretary for Cummins Engine Company. She was Methodist by faith.
In addition to her mother she is survived by her longtime companion, Vaughn N. Berry, Summerville; two sons, John W. Shepherd III, Summerville, Donald Royce Irons, Cumberland; one daughter, Donna Rae Shepherd Gotts, Cumberland; one brother and sister-in-law, Chris and Carol Lockard, Cumberland; two sisters and brother-in-law, Marion L. Barnes, Cumberland, and Johann and John Andrews, Ridgeley, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at Parks Funeral Home Chapel, Summerville, Thursday, July 8, at 2 p.m.
Interment will be in Summerville Cemetery.
DUSTIN DALE WELCH
MOUNTAIN LAKE PARK - Dustin Dale Welch, retired realtor and business owner, died suddenly at his home on Thursday, April 15, 1999, in Mountain Lake Park.
Dustin was the son of the late Ralph and Lois (Adams) Welch. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Welch; his former wife, Jean (Burkett) Welch; and two brothers-in-law, Harry Calain and Donald "Fats" Martin.
Survivors include his wife, Bette (Aronhalt) Welch; two daughters, Loy Lee (Welch) Capshaw and husband, Steve, Hagerstown, Dee (Welch) Bower and husband, Robert, Rawlings; four sisters, Erma (Welch) Christian and husband, Bill, Jacksonville, Fla., Janice (Welch) Smith and husband, Richard, Keyser, W.Va., Sondra (Welch) Helker and husband, Don, Memphis, Tenn, and Loi Lu Calain, Melbourne, Fla.; one brother, Richard Welch, Wiley Ford, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, Cole, Lacey, Taylor, Julia, Michael, Timothy and Jeffrey; two foster grandchildren, Ginny and Keri-Lee; many nieces and nephews; grand-nieces and nephews; numerous cousins; and many special friends.
"Dale" as he was known by his friends, was born in Alaska, W.Va. He wrote prose and had a flair for storytelling that inspired all those around him. Dustin's real passion was making people be happy within themselves. His genial personality and the generous instincts of this fine man will be missed. He was esteemed in the community and he was generally recognized as one whose deeds were worthy of emulation.
Dustin also promoted and was a champion of patriotism. The "stars and stripes" were very much a part of his daily life. He generously donated "Etiquette of the United States Flag" booklets to the educational systems in both Garrett and Allegany counties. Dustin was a United States Naval World War II veteran, and he served on the USS Midway. He sought to do his duty honorably and justly.
He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Fort Ashby, W.Va.; a life member of the BPO Elks, Oakland, and V.F.W., Fort Ashby and Oakland; a member of the Cumberland Loyal Order of Moose #271; the American Legion-Proctor Kildow Post, Oakland; and the USS Midway CV-41 Association.
At Mr. Welch's request he was cremated. We will pay our tribute of love, affection, and respect to his memory, Friday, April 23, 1999, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Methodist Church, Oakland, with the Rev. Ann Harrison officiating. The Sacred Elks service will be conducted at the conclusion of the memorial service.
The American Legion and V.F.W. will conduct Flag and Honor Guard ceremonies.
If desired, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to Shriners' Hospital for Crippled Children.

MARY F. WARNICK
BARTON - Mary F. Warnick, 100, of the Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing, Md., formerly of Laurel Run Road, Barton, died Friday, May 21, 1999, at the nursing home.
Born on July 22, 1898, at Avilton, Md., she was the daughter of the late Peter and Eliamedia (Garlitz) Broadwater. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence C. Warnick, in 1981.
Mary was a member of St. Gabriels Catholic Church, Barton, and was a member of Court St. Gabriels Catholic Daughters of America. She was a former member of the Barton Senior Citizens.
She is survived by eight sons, Allen Warnick and wife Bonnie of Romeo, Mich., Lewis Warnick and wife Mary Emma of Mt. Clemmons, Mich., Vernon Warnick and wife Mary of Barton, Robert Warnick and late wife Ruth of Barton, Edward Warnick and wife Anna of Greenville, S.C., Donald Warnick and wife Karen of Lonaconing, David Warnick and wife Dottie of Barton, and Thomas Warnick and wife Fran of Lonaconing; one sister, Louise Bailey of Silver Spring, Md.; 42 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Gabriels Catholic Church on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. James Hannon as celebrant.
Interment will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills, Md.
Catholic Daughter will hold a memorial service at the Boal Chapel Monday at 7 p.m.

VERA B. SHERWOOD
SHALLMAR - Vera Blondella Sherwood, age 71, died Saturday, March 13, 1999, in the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Sept. 7, 1927, in Shallmar, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Alice (Lechliter) Brady. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Vivian Tasker; and a brother, Gary Brady.
Surviving is her husband, Richard Sherwood; one son, Richard Sherwood and his wife, Rosanne, Accident; one daughter, Debbie James, Shallmar; her step mother, Arvella Brady; one sister, Dora Lee Chapman, Shallmar; and one grandson, Jamie James, Shallmar.
Vera was a 1944 graduate of Kitzmiller High School. She was Postmaster of Shallmar Post Office and operated Vera's Grocery Store in Shallmar. She retired from Bausch and Lomb Optical in Oakland.
Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Joseph Phillips officiating.
Interment is in the Kalbaugh Cemetery, Elk Garden, W.Va.
MILDRED L. SHOBE
CUMBERLAND - Mildred Leona Shobe, 84, formerly of Potomac Park, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born on April 19, 1915, in Green Spring, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Albert James and Lola (Shanholtz) Beauchamp. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Alfred James Kasubick in 1947; one sister, Madeline Fletcher; and one half brother, Charles Shepherd.
Mrs. Shobe has worked for over 30 years as a glass cutter for the Kortrigh, Nering and Weaver Company.
She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where she belonged the Christian Mothers. She also belonged to the Cumberland Senior Citizens and the AARP.
Survivors included her husband, Ellis Herman Shobe, a resident of Rose Hill Nursing Home, Berryville, Va.; four sisters, Leola Metz, Cumberland, Betty Custer, Burlington, N.J., Dorothy Schraa, Alexandria, Va., and Doris Jeffries, Fayetteville, N.C.; one half-brother, Richard Shepherd, Burlington, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. Vance Pastorius, OFM, Cap., officiating.
Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Cosner, B.J Cosner, Dennis Metz, J.R. Metz, Howard Metz, and Willie Metz.
THOMAS L. SHOBER
LAVALE - Thomas Leonard Shober, 78, of 210 Allendale Ave., LaVale, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born August 13, 1921, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Casper Shober and Nellie (King) Shober.
Mr. Shober was a retired purchasing agent for Allegany Ballistics Laboratory. He was a member of the Holy Cross Episcopal Church, and was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp.
Surviving are his wife, Norma L. (Chisholm) Shober, LaVale, one daughter, Carol Brunner, Hagerstown; one grandson, Clayton Thomas Brunner, Hagerstown; two brothers, Joseph Shober and wife Margie, LaVale, and Harold (Buck) Shober and wife Billie, Cumberland; five sisters, Helen Peters, Troy, NY, Kay Robinette, Cumberland, Anna Stallings and husband Egbert, Cumberland, Phillys Ryan, Ridgeley, W.Va., and Ginger Smith and husband Melvin, Wilmington, Del.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Service of the Resurrection will be celebrated at the Holy Cross Episcopal Church on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Arthur Lillicupp officiating.
Interment will be in the Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by the combined veterans honor guard.
