J. FRED WILSON
CUMBERLAND - J. Fred Wilson, 86, of 11501 Fairview Road SE, Cumberland, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 19, 1912, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Francis Wayne Wilson and the late Mazie Ella (Robinette) Wilson. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Edna E. (Emerick) Wilson, on July 3, 1998.
Mr. Wilson was retired from the Cumberland Stock Yard.
Surviving are a stepdaughter, Viola M. Stafford, Rahway, N.J.; two granddaughters, Charlene Edwards and Darlene Motto; and a great-grandson, Randy Hammond.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Fred Iser officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
ALICE M. SKIPPER
SWANTON - Alice Marie Skipper, 71, of Paul's Lane, Swanton, died Friday, March 26, 1999, at the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born on March 7, 1928, in Swanton, she was the daughter of the late Ray E. Beckman and Louise L. (McRobie) (Beckman) Custer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. Skipper, in 1989; one brother, James O. Beckman; and by one grandson, Joshua Livingston.
She was a member of the Oakland Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by two daughters, Paula M. Livingston, Frostburg, and J. Sue Weeks, Oakland; four sons, Richard E. Skipper, Swanton, William R. Skipper and Timothy J. Skipper, both of Oakland, and Franklin P. Skipper, Swanton; three sisters, S. June Develon, Milford, Conn., P. JoAnn Molleen, Virginia Beach, Va., and Thelma L. Skipper, Oakland; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
Services will be held at the Oakland Church of the Nazarene on Monday, March 29, 1999, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Bruce Knorpp officiating.
Interment will be in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services.

LAWRENCE E. SKIPPER
OAKLAND - Lawrence E. Skipper, 76, of Broadford Road, Oakland, died Tuesday, April 20, 1999, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born on Dec. 10, 1922, in Hutton, he was the son of the late Edward C. and Leona P. (Winters) Skipper. He was also preceded in death by one son, Robert E. Skipper; one brother, Paul R. Skipper; one infant grandson, Robert J. Skipper; and one infant great-grandson, Brady Sisler.
He was a member of the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren. He retired from the State Highway Administration with 30 years of service. He served in the United States Army, and was a veteran of World War II, where he received the Bronze Star.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred M. (Romesburg) Skipper, Oakland; two daughters, Beverly A. Sisler, Oakland, Kimberly J. O'Brien, Swanton; one sister, Jeannette F. Keefe, Oakland; one brother, Donald E. Skipper, Oakland; four grandchildren, Tim 'Bear' and Rhonda Sisler, Oakland, Jason Skipper, Oakland, Lori (Skipper) Parrish, Keyser, W.Va., and Danny O'Brien, Swanton; three great-grandchildren, T.J. and Chase Sisler, both of Oakland, and Brytan Parrish, Keyser.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Services wil be held at the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren on Thursday, April 22, 1999, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Donald Matthews officiating.
Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

JOAN E. SLAUGHTER
EASTON - A Mass for the Dead for Joan E. Slaughter, of Easton, will be celebrated at St.. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Easton, on Saturday, October 2, at 11 a.m.
Joan E. Slaughter, 75, died at her home in Easton on Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999.
Born May 11, 1924, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Anna Collins Welsh. She graduated from Fort Hill High School in Cumberland in 1943. In 1952, she married
James Mason Slaughter and they made their home in Washington, D.C., for two years before moving to Easton in 1954. She retired in the mid-1980's from C&P; Telephone Company with 30 years of service as a telephone operator.
Her memberships included St.. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Easton, Ladies of the Elks, Easton Lodge 1622, Telephone Pioneers of America and the Talbot County Women's Club of which she was past President. She also served as a Brownie Leader in the 1960's.
Mr. Slaughter died in March of 1998.
Mrs. Slaughter is survived by a daughter, Robbin Anne Bramble, of Bethlehem; a son, James Mason Slaughter, Jr., of Bethlehem; three sisters, Eleanor W. Farrell, Anna Margaret Stevens and Mary Catherine Skidmore, all of Cumberland; and one granddaughter.
Private burial will be at Oxford Cemetery, Oxford, Md.
In lieu of flowers, the family have requested memorial donations to the Talbot Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, MD 21601.
Funeral arrangements are by the Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, Easton.
BRIAN D. SLOAN
CUMBERLAND - Brian D. Sloan, 60, of Navarre, Fla., died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at his home.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Virginia (O'Neal) Sloan, formerly of Cumberland; daughters Arlene Baxter of Chicago and Andrea Eaves of St. Albans, England; and granddaughter Lauren Eaves. He was the son-in-law of Mary O'Neal; and brother-in-law of Mary Jane Robinette, Janet O'Neal, Paul O'Neal and Joyce Porter.
Born on June 21, 1939, in Detroit, the son of William Aloysius and Mary Theresa Sloan, he served in the U.S. Navy from July 1957 to November 1967, flying on P2V Neptunes on anti-submarine patrols.
Following his military service, Mr. Sloan, his wife and daughters lived in Jacksonville and West Palm Beach, Fla., before moving to Germany where they lived for 16 years. Since their return from Germany in 1996, Mr. Sloan and his wife have lived in Tallahassee, Fla., recently locating to Navarre.
Mr. Sloan had more than 30 years experience in business management, operation and ownership. He was licensed in 1977 in Florida for life insurance, health insurance and annuities. While in Germany, he provided financial planning services to military families and government personnel. Mr. Sloan was a member of the European Association of Life Underwriters and the International Association of Financial Planners. He was also a volunteer for the Hurlburt Field Red Cross, serving as chairman of the organizing committee for the upcoming 5K race in October.
He was known for his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever needed. Mr. Sloan made friends wherever he went. His family and all those who knew him will surely miss his sense of humor, zest for fun, and ever-positive outlook on life.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Sylvester's Church or to the American Heart Association.
CHARLES P. SLOAN
RIVERBEND, N.C. - Charles Patrick Sloan, 73, of Riverbend, formerly of Cumberland, Md., died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at Craven Regional Medical Center, New Bern.
He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Riverbend Golf and Country Club, and the Knights of Columbus Council #3303, B.P.O.E. Lodge #764. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served on the USS Arkansas.
Surviving are his wife, Rosemary Sloan, at home; one son, Dr. John P. Sloan, Denton, Md.; two daughters, Linda M. Madden, Hagerstown, Md., and Margy Maloney, Cumberland; nine grandchildren, Christopher Sloan, Jennifer Dipaula, Victoria Sloan, Deanna Madden, Sean Madden, Allison Zapf, William Zapf III, Bridgid Zapf and Lauren Zapf.
The family will receive friends at Cotten Funeral Home, New Bern, on Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Paul Catholic Church, New Bern, on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Father Dan Oschwald officiating.
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, New Bern.
