CUMBERLAND - Emily June Scarlett, 78, of Shades Lane, Cumberland, died Saturday, May 29, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born June 3, 1920, in Berlin, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Marybelle (Stevanous) Uncapher.
Mrs. Scarlett was a homemaker and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband, John A. Scarlett; one daughter, Darlene Alex and husband, Gene, Long Island, N.Y.; four sons, Robert G. Whaley, Herlock, John L. Scarlett and wife, Sue, Cumberland, Timothy D. Scarlett and wife, Kim, Cumberland, and Gene L. Scarlett, Roxboro, N.C.; two brothers, Ronald Z. Uncapher, Frostburg, Robert M. Uncapher and wife, Helen, Bowling Green; and 10 grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Monday, May 31, 1999, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at 11 a.m. by Pastor Stephen C. Sweyko. Friends will also be received at the church one hour prior to the service.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, 326 N. Centre St., Cumberland, MD 21502.
ELIZABETH J. SAYGER
CUMBERLAND - Elizabeth "Sam" J. Sayger, 74, of 302 Arch St., Cumberland, Md., died Saturday, May 8, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 18, 1924, in Coakton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Coleman and the late Nellie (Nogel) Coleman. She also was preceded by a granddaughter, Donna Keener. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Sayger was a former employee of Dick and Clara's Restaurant. She was a member of Friendship Haven Chapel of Cumberland and W.M.C. of Grace Brethren Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandra J. Lewis and husband Dewey, Cumberland, Md.; a son, William H. Sager Jr., Thomas, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Belinda Mooney and husband Dale, Ridgeley, W.Va., Kevin Keener, Cumberland, Sheila Sager, Thomas, W.Va., and William H. Sager III, Thomas, W.Va.; eight great-grandchildren, Shaundra, Derek, Michael, Caitlin, Patrick and Margaret Mooney, and Austin and Shasta Keener; and a great-great-granddaughter, Meghan Mooney.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with Floyd Bender officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
REBA E. WHITEHAIR
OLNEY - Reba Elizabeth Whitehair, 80, of Olney, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Spring.
Born April 15, 1918, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Clifton T. and Jessie (Cook) Campbell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond F. Whitehair, in 1979.
Mrs. Whitehair was a graduate of Pennsylvania Avenue High School class of 1936, and also of Catherman's Business School. She was employed as secretary to William Bibby, president of Old Export Brewery, and later as secretary to Robert Hainsfurther, general manager of PPG Works #7. She was active in the Algonquin Chapter of the National Secretaries Association. She served three terms as president of the chapter. Prior to that she held other chapter offices as well as being the Chapter's delegate in the Maryland-Delaware-District of Columbia Division of NSA. In 1960 she moved to Riverdale with her son to join her husband who was employed by George Washington University in Administration. She was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Beltsville and Hyattsville for 25 years and retired in 1984. She moved to Olney after retirement.
Surviving are one son, Raymond T. Whitehair and wife, Frances, Brookeville; one grandson, Kyle Whitehair, Frederick; three granddaughters, Kimberly Whitehair, Brookeville, Patricia Lock and husband, Joseph, St. Louis, Mo., and Tracy Whitehair, Brookeville; one sister, Martha Weber and husband, John, Laurel; and one sister-in-law, Emma Campbell, San Antonio, Texas.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mark C. Dill officiating.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Cumberland.
JESSIE B. SAVAGE
FRIENDSVILLE - Jessie Blanche Savage, 74, of 939 Newton Savage Road, Friendsville, died Tuesday, Dec.13, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born on Feb. 24, 1925, in Bergman, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Emory Ellsworth and Adelia Sines Chidester.
Mrs. Savage was a homemaker, a member of the Keeler Glade Church of God and their Ladies Group, and WOW Camp 45.
Surviving are her husband, Ernest F. Savage Sr.; three sons, Ernest F. Savage Jr., Hunt Valley, Earl Leslie Savage, Buies Creek, N.C., Ross Emery Savage, Friendsville; two daughters, Elizabeth Smith, Charlestown, W.Va., and Freda Grace Sines, Friendsville; a sister, Alberta Savage, Morgantown, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Friendsville, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Keeler Glade Church of God, Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark Lawson and Robbie Fraley Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in the Blooming Rose Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Northern Garrett Co. Rescue Squad, Keeler Glade Church, or Sacred Heart Hospice.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
W. KENNETH WINFIELD
CUMBERLAND - W. Kenneth "Winnie" Winfield, 66, of 33 Beechwood Drive, Cumberland, died Friday, Dec. 10, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Dec. 25, 1932, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late William Joseph Winfield and Mabel Leora (Yeider) Winfield.
Mr. Winfield was retired from the Kelly Springfield Tire Company Warehouse. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Army National Guard of Maryland, the Cresaptown Eagles Aerie #2883, and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #71. Mr. Winfield took much pride in his craftsmanship as a carpenter and general maintenance contractor, and spent many hours instilling in his children that same pride in craftsmanship and the importance of a job well done.
Surviving are his wife, Martha G. (Davis) Winfield, Cumberland; one daughter, Belinda Sue Spangler and husband Gary, Virginia Beach, Va.; three sons, Steve Kenneth Winfield and wife Maxine, Hyndman, Pa., Randall Lynn Winfield and wife Susan, Winchester, Va., and Jeffrey Mark Winfield and wife Sandra, Inwood, W.Va.; two brothers, James Winfield and wife Mary Louise, Frostburg, and Richard Winfield and wife Carmaleda, Lakeland, Fla.; one sister, Martha Jenkins and husband Frank, Vale Summit; and nine grandchildren, Mark Dickerhoof, Amanda Winfield, William K. Winfield, Rebecca Spangler, Jason Winfield, Joe Winfield, Stephanie Winfield, Cory Winfield, and Cheree Winfield.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 4 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Monday at 9 a.m. with Father Milton Hipsley as celebrant.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
JACK SAULPAW
GRANTSVILLE - Caleb Jackson 'Jack' Saulpaw Jr., 54, of 92 Wiley Lane, Grantsville, died Saturday, June 5, 1999, at his residence.
Born Sept. 17, 1944, in Washington, D.C., he was a son of Lorraine (Peake) Saulpaw James, of Cumberland, and the late Caleb Jackson Saulpaw Sr.
Mr. Saulpaw was a member of Cornerstone Assembly of God, and was a retired meat cutter for Super Fresh grocery store.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Clarice A. (Markland) Saulpaw; his stepfather, Michael James of Cumberland; a son, Brian Saulpaw, San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Pamela Buckel, Bittinger, Md., and Kelly Saulpaw, Grantsville; and three grandsons, Neil and Nicholas Buckel, and Alex Treasure.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, Md., Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jake Paugh and the Rev. Garry Kipe officiating.
Interment will be in the Bittinger Cemetery.

MARLENE L. SANTOS
BOWLING GREEN - Marlene Louise Santos, 64, of Bowling Green, Cumberland, died Friday, April 23, 1999, at Sacred heart Hospital.
Born June 26, 1934, in Beryl, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Robert Edward Lee and Olive Mae (Kackley) Bryan. She also was preceded in death by her husband, David I. Santos; and one brother, Jerome Bryan.
Mrs. Santos was a retired horse rancher. She was a member of Davis Memorial United Methodist Church, where she held the positions of Financial Secretary, Mission Chairperson, and Sunday School Teacher. She also was a volunteer at the Cumberland Nursing Home and tutored at the Western Maryland Reading Center.
Surviving are one daughter, Tani Lynn Pointer and husband Jethro, Cross Plains, Texas; two sons, Steven Robert Santos and wife Maureen, Bethel Island, Calif., and Jesse Daniel Santos, at home; one sister, Beverly Ann Stimmel and husband George, Oldtown; one brother, Robert E. Lee Bryan and wife Betty, Westernport; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Bryan, West Columbia, S.C.; and five grandchildren, Sara, Luke and John Santos, Bryanna and Billie Jane Pointer.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Wednesday at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Theodore D. Higby officiating. At Mrs. Santos' request, her body will be cremated.
The family requests that contributions be made to the Davis Memorial United Methodist Youth Group.
