MARY ANN TROYER
GRANTSVILLE - Mary Ann Troyer, 82, of 274 Peavine Road, Grantsville, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born April 3, 1917, in Ford, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Eli and Amanda (Slabaugh) Mast. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Troyer, on Aug. 27, 1983.
Mrs. Troyer was a member of the Cherry Glade Mennonite Church, and volunteered at the Goodwill Mennonite Home.
Surviving are one son, William J. Troyer, Harrisonburg, Va.; two daughters, Carolyn J. Beachy, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Linda A. Miller, Grantsville; two brothers, Eli Mast, Bridgeville, Del., and William Mast, Lititz, Pa.; two sisters, Katherine Mast, Grantsville, and Emma Kipfer, Sarasota, Fla.; nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Friends will then be received at the Fleischauer Funeral Home, Greenwood, Del., on Sunday after 6 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Monday at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Mennonite Church, Greenwood, Del., with the Rev. John Mischler and Rev. Clinton Yoder officiating.
Interment will be in Greenwood Mennonite Cemetery.
A. RUTH WHITACRE
GRANTSVILLE - A. Ruth Whitacre, a resident of Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville, Md., died there Monday, January 11, 1999. She observed her birthday of 101 years on Thursday, December 10, 1998.
Born December 10, 1897, Ruth was the eldest of the nine children of J.C. and Emma (Shockley) Beahm. Of the nine children, only her sister, Edith, is living. Edith is 91 years old and resides at Indianhead, Pa.
In 1925, Ruth married
Jesse W. Whitacre. She gave birth to four sons, two of whom died in infancy. Living are Charles J. Whitacre, a retired pastor of Denver, Colo., and Daniel J. Whitacre of Meyersdale, Pa., who serves as pastor of the Salisbury Church of the Brethren and the Maple Glen Church of the Brethren. Ruth has seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Jesse, was a pastor and evangelist. Jesse served as pastor in twelve different congregations including Maple Grove, Laughlin and Bethesda congregations in Western Maryland. Ruth encouraged and assisted in his ministry by singing, directing music and telling children's stories. Ruth also became an ordained minister, being the first ordained female in the District of First West Virginia, Church of the Brethren. Ruth also served as an elementary school teacher in the public schools of West Virginia and Ohio.
Ruth and Jesse retired in 1972 and spent 19 happy and productive years at the Friendship Manor retirement facility, Roanoke, Va. In October 1991, Ruth and Jesse came to be residents at Goodwill Mennonite Home. Jesse passed from this life in March 1995 at the age of 94.
At her request, her body was cremated and her remains will be interred at the Abe cemetery near Old Furnace Church of the Brethren, Ridgeley, W.Va.
The Newman Funeral Home Inc., Salisbury, Pa., was in charge of arrangements.
A memorial service for Ruth will be held at the Salisbury Church of the Brethren on Saturday, January 16, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Ronald Beachley, District Minister, will preside with Ruth's two sons participating in the service.
WILLIAM "BILL" DOMINICK TROZZO
CUMBERLAND - William "Bill" Dominick Trozzo, 76, of 555 N. Mechanic St., Cumberland, passed away Wednesday evening, July 7, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born in Cumberland on Dec. 14, 1922, he was the son of the late Dominick Trozzo and the late Sophia (Molinari) Trozzo.
Mr. Trozzo was owner/operator of Bill's Quality Cars on North Mechanic Street. He was a member of U.C.T., Cumberland Eagles Aerie #245 and Cumberland Historic cemetery Association.
Surviving are his wife, Esther (Bucy) Trozzo; one brother, Frank Trozzo, Owings Mills; a very close friend, Michael Newman, Cumberland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Trozzo's wishes were that he be cremated at the Cumberland Crematory. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, by the Rev. Max Greenfield.
Contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation or to the American Diabetes Association.
BERTHA M. TRUE
FROSTBURG - Bertha Mae True, 95, a resident of St. Vincent DePaul Nursing Home, formerly of Grand Ave., Cumberland, went to be with the Lord, Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, in Scared Heart Hospital.
Born on Jan. 19, 1904, in Jamestown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Jenny (Anderson) Evans.
Ms. True was a beloved mother to a son, Donald C. True and wife Geneva, Cumberland; two daughters, Wanda Sonnenberg and husband William, Rockville, and Charlotte Bishop, Ridgeley, W.Va.; brothers, Boyd Evans, Ohio, and Paul Evans, LaVale; two special nieces, Delores Graham and Martha Andres, both of Frostburg; grandchildren, William Bishop, Jr., Ridgeley, Timothy Bishop, Cumberland, Cheri Robosson, Clearville, Pa., Barbara Banks and husband Jeff, Rockville, Wayne Sonnenberg, Gaithersburg, Donna Jean Frush, New Jersy, and Christoper True, serving with the U.S. Army in Ga.; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received in the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Hwy., LaVale, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Mark Baugh officiating.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
BETTY J. WINTERS
FROSTBURG - Betty J. Winters, 75, of Montel Road S.W., Frostburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born May 17, 1924, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Charles William Miller Sr. and Louisa Anna (Fisher) Miller. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Walter "Perk" Winters, Nov. 11, 1995, and one sister, Mary Loar.
Mrs. Winters was a member of Vale Summit United Methodist Church. She had worked at Berkowitz Shirt Factory.
Surviving are one son, James G. Winters and wife Sandra, Montell Road S.W., Frostburg; one daughter, Georgia Anna Weddle and husband James, Hagerstown; four grandchildren, Jeanine Agosti, Yvonne Myers, James Weddle Jr. and Kevin Weddle; three great-grandchildren, Joseph Agosti, Ashli Hauver and Alisha Poole; one brother, Charles "Cap" W. Miller Jr., Frostburg; and special nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 West Main St., Frostburg, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted there on Friday at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Vale Summit United Methodist Church.
WILLIAM J. TRULY JR.
LONACONING - William James "Gum Leg" Truly Jr., 69, of Island Street, Lonaconing, died June 30, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born June 5, 1930, at Midland, he was a son of the late William James Truly Sr. and Lula Belle (Miller) Truly. His wife, Ruth Virginia (Beeman) Truly, died on Oct. 27, 1984. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Eugene "Sap" Truly.
He was the owner of Truly Bar and Restaurant, Midland. He was Protestant by faith. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a life member of the Alvin C. Neat Post 5280 VFW, Lonaconing; life member of American Legion Post 189, Barton; member Amvets Post II; life member of the James P. Dickel Sr. Chapter of Western Maryland, The Forgotten War Remembered; life member of the Korean War Veterans Association Inc.; life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars National Home, East Rapids, Mich.; member Fraternal Order of Eagles, Frostburg; member Frostburg Moose Lodge 348; member Order of Redmen of Westernport, Tribe Council 131; and member 40/8 Club, Mount Savage.
Surviving are one daughter, Vickie Shingler and husband James Richard, Midland; special friend, Diane Schurg, Lonaconing; four grandchildren, Steven, William, Christopher and Jamie Shingler; three sisters, Isabelle Jones, Lonaconing, Betty Simpson, Midland, Phyllis McCreary, Glen Burnie, and Anna Mae Alexander, Midland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Taugher officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
James P. Dickel Chapter of Korean War Veterans Association will hold a memorial service Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Alvin C. Neat Post 5280 VFW and Barton American Legion Post 189 will hold a combined memorial service at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
