MARY M. TURLEY
LAVALE - Mary Meleta Turley, 92, of the Allegany County Nursing Home, formerly of LaVale Boulevard, LaVale, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, in the Special Care (Hospice) Unit of Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born June 5, 1906, in Accident, Md., she was the daughter of the late James Franklin and Elizabeth (Hoffman) Northcraft. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Turley Jr.; and four brothers, Leland Boyd, William Howard, Cecil James and Carl Willard Northcraft.
Mrs. Turley had been an active, longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Cumberland, having been a member of L.C.W. and serving on many committees including Altar Duty and the sewing group.
She also was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the LaVale Volunteer Fire Department having served as president, financial secretary, chaplain and on the banquet committee.
Surviving are one son, William D. Northcraft and wife Arlene; two daughters, Patricia Graham and husband Joseph, and Donna D. Goldizen and husband Larry, all of Bel Air, Cumberland; six grandchildren, W. Craig Northcraft and wife Tammy, Cumberland, Brent, Aaron and Alison Northcraft, all of Bel Air, Patti Cosner and husband Eric, Keyser, W.Va., and Stephanie Sharpless and husband Marty, Bowling Green; two great-grandchildren, W. Craig Northcraft II, Cumberland, and Justin A. Cosner, Keyser, W.Va.; and many nieces and nephews including a very special nephew, Sandy Northcraft and wife Nita, Cresaptown.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Washington and Smallwood streets, Cumberland, on Saturday, April 10, 1999, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John J. Duffus officiating.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service time.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to either St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Washington and Smallwood streets, Cumberland, MD 21502 or to the Memorial Hospital Special Care Unit, 600 Memorial Ave., Cumberland, MD 21502.
Serving as pallbearers will be Martin Sharpless, Denny Porter, Eric Cosner, Frank Billard, Aaron Northcraft and Brent Northcraft.
FRED F. TURNER
WESTERNPORT - Fred Franklin Turner, 44, of 24709 Mill Run Road, SW, Westernport, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, at his residence.
Born Dec. 9, 1955, in Allegany County, he was the son of the late Carl Turner and Velma (Ritchie) Turner. He also was preceded in death by one sister Ann Hout.
Mr. Turner was an avid deer and turkey hunter and fisherman. He was a former welder for Beener Coal Company.
Surviving are his wife, Anne Marie (Eline) Turner; three children, Mark J. Turner, Stacy L. Turner and Beth A. Turner, all at home; several nieces and nephews; and a special part of the family, Steven Wolford serving with the Navy in Washington State and wife Stacey and son Dakota.
At Mr. Turner's request, his body will be cremated.
Memorial services will be conducted at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. with Pastor Dallas Bunch officiating. The family will receive friends there from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery, Fort Ashby, W.Va.
BLAIR L. TWIGG
FLINTSTONE - Blair L. Twigg, 87, of Alexandria, Va., formerly of Flintstone, died April 12, 1999, at Alexandria Hospital.
Born in Flintstone, Mr. Twigg served on the USS Quincy during World War II and was a member of the Local Order of Moose Lodge No. 1315 of Arlington, Va., and The Owls Bowling League.
Mr. Twigg was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Margaret E. Twigg. He was the father of Robert L. Twigg and Catherine D. Fenton; grandfather of Blair, Robert, Paul and Bobbi Jo Twigg; great-grandfather of Robert, Paul and Raymond; brother of Earl Twigg, Cumberland, Leona Beckwith, Cumberland and Grace Broadwater and Lottie Clark, both of Ohio.
The Eberly-Wheatley Funeral Home, Alexandria, was in charge of arrangements.
Interment was in Culpepper (Va.) National Cemetery.
CHRISTOPHER K. TWIGG
LITTLE RIVER, S.C. - Christopher Kent Twigg, 37, of Eagle Nest Apts., died Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999, at his residence following an illness.
Mr. Twigg was born in Winchester, Va., he was the son of Lanny Twigg and Bonnie H. Twigg. He was employed by Golf Dimensions.
Surviving in addition to his father, of Little River, and his mother, of Centreville, Va. are: stepmother, Elaine Twigg, of Little River; one brother, Matthew Twigg, of Conway; paternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Loy M. and Mildred Twigg, both of Cumberland; maternal grandmother, Katherine Hammack, of Middletown, Va.
A memorial service will be held at the Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel, Wednesday at 4 p.m.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 3 to 4 p.m. before the service.

CARL G. VALENTINE
LITTLE ORLEANS - Carl George Valentine, 83, of 32308 Black Forest Lane, NE, Little Orleans, Md., died Friday, May 28, 1999, at his home.
Born Oct. 6, 1915, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late William L. Valentine and the late Laura B. (Martin) Valentine.
Mr. Valentine founded and was president of the Carl G. Valentine and Son Inc. Plumbing and Heating Business in 1948. Mr. Valentine was a World War II veteran having served with the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Davis Memorial United Methodist Church. Mr. Valentine was a past president of the Allegany County Master Plumber's Association; past president of the District 16 Volunteer Fire Department; former member of the Home Builder's Association; and a former member of the Moose Lodge 271. Through Mr. Valentine's generosity, he donated property owned by him on Wills Mountain to the City of Cumberland.
Surviving are a wife, Joan M. (Keyser) Valentine, Little Orleans, Md.; a son, William R. Valentine and wife Ruthann, Little Orleans, Md.; three daughters, Carlene Llewellyn and husband Gary, Cumberland, Md., Sharon Netzer of Fairless Hills, Pa.; and a stepdaughter, Susan Bowman and husband John of Randallstown, Md.; a brother, Leroy Valentine, Cumberland, Md.; three granddaughters; and one step-granddaughter.
At Mr. Valentine's request, his remains were cremated at the Cumberland Crematory, Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, Md.
Interment will be private at Davis Memorial Cemetery, Cumberland, Md.
MILDRED H. VANCE
FLINTSTONE - Mildred H. Vance, 89, of Murleys Branch Road, Flintstone, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home in Grantsville.
Born Aug. 26, 1909, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Nellie (Thorpe) Eichhorn. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel H. Vance; a son, Richard; three brothers; two sisters; and three grandchildren.
Mrs. Vance was a member of the Church of the Brethren and was a homemaker.
Surviving are a son, Daniel G. Vance and his wife Catherine, Flintstone; four grandsons, Mark, Scott, Daniel and Stephen; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Floyd Bender officiating.
Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
CRANSTON J. VAN METER
CUMBERLAND - Cranston J. "Preach" Van Meter, 78, of Footer Place, Cumberland, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born on July 16, 1921, at Maysville, W.Va., he was the son of the late James W. Van Meter and Carrie J. (Stump) Van Meter; he was also preceded in death by four brothers.
Mr. Van Meter was an employee of the Celanese Corporation in Cumberland were he worked in the engineering department. He retired in 1984 with 37 years of service; he was a member of the Living Stone Church of the Brethren, a Navy veteran serving in World War II, in the Pacific Theater; he also was an employee at the Kight Funeral Home; he wrote and had published an inspirational article entitled "A Touch of Faith."
Surviving are his wife, Georgia M. (Bohrer) Van Meter; five sons, James T. Van Meter and wife, Grace, David G. Van Meter and wife, Linda, Dale L. Van Meter and wife Jean, all of Cumberland, Ronald L. Van Meter, Sr., and wife Bonnie, Hancock, Robert M. Van Meter and wife, Cindy, Columbia; two daughters, Barbara Jean Van Meter, Frederick, Sheila M. Cuppett and husband, Tom, Cumberland; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl V. Van Meter and wife, Christine, Cumberland; four sisters, Edna B. Weaver and husband, Monzel, Short Gap, W.Va., Tressie V. Snyder, Nina M. Warlick, both of Baltimore, Nellie L. Hott and husband, Gene, Short Gap, W.Va.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the Living Stone Church of the Brethren, on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Timothy L. Monn, officiating. Friends may call the church one hour prior to services.
Interment will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, William J. Van Meter, Ronald L. Van Meter, Jr., James R. Van Meter, Stephen E. Van Meter, Matthew T. Cuppett, Johnathan E. Cuppett and Michael P. Van Meter.
