OTHA C. VANMETER
CUMBERLAND - Otha C. VanMeter, 61, of Cumberland, died Monday, May 10, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born July 26, 1937, in Maysville, W.Va., he was the son of the late George and Rosa (Rohrbaugh) VanMeter. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Chester VanMeter; and one sister, Mae Reed.
Mr. VanMeter was employed by the City of Cumberland at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. He was Protestant by faith.
Surviving are three sons, Larry C. VanMeter and wife, Debbie, Cumberland, Lonald R. VanMeter, Cumberland, and Donald W. VanMeter and wife, Sherry, Oldtown; his special friend, Gloria J. Rice, Cumberland; his former wife, Eleanor Steward, Cumberland; two sisters, Mary Gottlieb, Cumberland, and Ellen Bock, Cumberland; and one brother, Tracey VanMeter, Cumberland; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Thursday at 1 p.m.
Interment will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery, Spring Gap.
RONALD L. VANMETER
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Ronald Lee VanMeter, 48, of San Diego, formerly of Cumberland, Md., died on Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, in San Diego.
Born July 16, 1950, in Cumberland, he was the son of Demaris V. VanMeter, Cumberland, and the late Chester Lee VanMeter.
Mr. VanMeter worked in the nursing field in California. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1968 to 1970. He was Pentecostal by faith, a graduate of Oldtown High School in 1968, and a former employee of Allegany County Nursing Home and Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by his former wife, Karen VanMeter; one son, Charles VanMeter; three sisters, Nancy Dolly, Sheron Campbell and husband, Tom, all of Cumberland, Debbie Davis and husband, Rodney, Hyndman, Pa.; one brother, Clinton E. VanMeter, Cumberland; and a number of nieces and nephews.
At Mr. VanMeter's request his body will be cremated.
A memorial service will be held at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Sherrill Dillon officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
WILLIAM F. VANMETER
OAKLAND - William F. VanMeter, 77, of Oakland, died on Tuesday at Ruby Memorial Hospital, in Morgantown, W.Va.
Born June 25, 1922, in Enterprise, W.Va., he was the son of the late John and Genevieve VanMeter.
Mr. VanMeter was retired from Monongalia Power Company with 33 years service and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (Shanaberger) VanMeter, in 1975; and by one brother, Douglas E. VanMeter.
He is survived by his loving companion, Mildred "Millie" Billey; one brother, Russell W. VanMeter, Maples, Fla.; and five nieces.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, in Oakland, on Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Donald Matthews, officiating.
Cremation will follow services.
The family requests memorials take the form of contributions to the Rosenbaum Family House, West Virginia University Hospitals, P.O. Box 8228 Medical Center Drive, Morgantown, W.Va. 26506-8228.
LOUISE F. WARDEN
LAVALE - Louise Frances Warden, 64, of Sangston Drive, LaVale, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, in her residence.
She was born on Nov. 18, 1934, in Alexandria, Minn., the daughter of the late Marvin and Agnes (Iblings) Hansen.
Mrs. Warden was a member of the Cresaptown Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, Haystack Mountain Club, and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary of Salisbury, Pa.
She is survived by her husband, James D. Warden; a son, Michael W. Warden, Huntington, W.Va.; a daughter, Diane Louise Weinstein and husband, Daniel, Murrieta, Calif.; three grandchildren, Joey, Natalie and James Garrett Weinstein, California; and a sister-in-law, Catherine Warden, Cresaptown.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating.
Interment will follow in the Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone.
ROY L. WARN
FROSTBURG - Roy L. "Buck" Warn, 69, of 18072 National Pike, Frostburg, went to be with Ginny in heaven on Sunday, Feb. 29, 1999, from his residence following a long fight with cancer.
Born Aug. 4, 1929, in Eckhart, he was the son of the late Roy and Annie (Hess) Warn. He also was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Virginia "Ginny" (Jenkins) Warn, on June 12, 1996. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Buck and Ginny founded the Hen House Restaurant in 1961. Buck was a Catholic by faith, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and Salisbury, Pa. He also was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 348, Frostburg.
Surviving are two sons, Gary L. Warn and wife Brenda, and William D. Warn and wife Theresa, and six grandchildren, Carrie, Jill, Katie, Jinny, Tyler and Coty, all of Long Stretch.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Father Paul Byrnes officiating.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.
WILLIAM D. WELLINGS SR.
FROSTBURG - William D. Wellings Sr., 60, of 19301 Upper Consol Road, Frostburg, died Friday, Sept. 24. 1999. at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Nov. 13, 1938, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Edith Wellings Davis. Mr. Wellings was reared by the late George and Julianna (Woodrow) Wellings.
Mr. Wellings retired after 21 years of service as a nurses assistant from the Frostburg Hospital. He also served in the National Guard, Company D, 115th Infantry, for nine years.
Mr. Wellings was Protestant by faith.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Mary (Wilhelm) Wellings; three sons, William Dale Wellings Jr. and wife Diane, Midland, Floyd Earl Wellings and wife Kelly, Frostburg, and James Lawrence Wellings and wife Lynn, Lonaconing; a sister, GeorgeAnna Seibert; four grandchildren, Brittany, Caitlin, Corey and Matthew; and an aunt, Middie Miller, Ridgeley, W.Va.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Durst Funeral Home on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George Loar officiating.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy Wilhelm, Jason Wilhelm, Chris Weddle, Denny Beeman, Chris Martin, Bobby Wellings, and Jerry Wellings.
