FRANCES M. WELSH
CUMBERLAND - Frances Mary Welsh, 90, of Cumberland, died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Aug. 20, 1909, in Piedmont, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Francis P. and Bertha Graney. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Edward V. Welsh; one brother; and one sister. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Welsh was a retired registered nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital. She was a member of Saint Patrick's Catholic Church and the church sodality. She was a dedicated nurse and was loved by all who knew her.
At Mrs. Welsh's request, there will be no visitation.
Funeral and interment services will be conducted at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Thursday at 10 a.m. with Monsignor Thomas R. Bevan officiating.
Interment will be in the SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
BESSIE M. WILLIAMSON
LONACONING - Bessie Marie Williamson, 97, "Grandma Bessie," formerly of 19 Allegany St., Lonaconing, a resident of Egle Nursing Home, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at the nursing home.
Born Oct. 2, 1902, in Barton, she was the daughter of the late Margie Foutz. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Richard Williamson; one daughter, Dorothy Williamson; one sister, Mary Guynn; and one brother, John Foutz. She was the last member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Williamson was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lonaconing, and the Senior Citizens of Georges Creek.
Surviving are her children, Laura Foor, Lonaconing, Harry W. "Buddy" Williamson, Lonaconing, Mildred Wratchford, Baltimore, William "Wally" Williamson, Lonaconing, Peggy Baumann, Lonaconing, Eileen Robertson, Lonaconing, and Shirley Connor, Lonaconing; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, on Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Mortimore officiating.
Interment will follow in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mill.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Egle Nursing Home, 57 Jackson St., Lonaconing, MD 21539.
PHYLLIS C. WILLINGHAM
DESOTO, Mo. - Phyllis Chaney Willingham, 87, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at the Hillcrest Nursing Center, De Soto, Mo.
Born May 1, 1912, in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of the late Walter Leo and Nettie (Moore) Chaney. She was the wife of Holmes J. Willingham who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Willingham was retired from the United States Justice Department in Washington, D.C. She was a longtime member of the Second Baptist Church, Cumberland.
Surviving are one niece, Sherry Chaney, DeSoto; one nephew, the Rev. Royce E. Chaney and wife the Rev. Melba Chaney, Grand Island, N.Y.; two great-nieces, Jessica Baldwin, Frederick, Md., and April Alicia Walls and husband Eric Walls and their children Justyn, Eric Jr. and Rachel Walls; two great-nephews, Mark E. Melanson and wife Nancy, Wilmington, Del., and Todd Melanson and wife Jacqueline, Minneapolis, Minn.
Mrs. Willingham will be cremated and her ashes returned to Cumberland for inurnment in Sunset Memorial Park.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at 1:30 p.m. at the Second Baptist Church, Cumberland.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to the Second Baptist Church, 2 Grand Ave., Cumberland, MD 21502.
ALEXANDER T. WILSON
CUMBERLAND - Alexander Taylor Wilson, 92, died Sunday, April 18, 1999, in the Cumberland Nursing Home, following an illness of many months.
Mr. Wilson was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on Sept. 24, 1906, son of the late William and Isabella (Tees) Wilson. He also was preceded in death by his brothers, John and Andrew, and his sister, Isabella McKenchie in America; and by his brothers, William, James and George, in Scotland.
Mr. Wilson immigrated to the United States in 1926, along with several brothers and his sister.
He retired from the Celanese Corp. as a supervisor in 1971, following 44 years of service.
Mr. Wilson was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Cumberland.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Geneva (Lewis) Wilson; one daughter, Janet (Wilson) Knight, Orange, Mass.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews remain in Scotland, living in Stirling and environs.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. O. Morton Harris Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
CLAIRE G. WISKER
CUMBERLAND - Claire G. Wisker, 73, of Winslow Street, Bel Air, Cumberland, died Saturday, March 13, 1999, at the Memorial Hospital.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on March 26, 1925, she was the daughter of the late William and Vera (Hirch) Wallace.
A homemaker, she was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and the Western Maryland Tuesday Morning Coffee Bowlers League.
Mrs. Wisker is survived by her husband, Gilbert Aubrey Wisker; a daughter, Carol Ann Wisker, Philadelphia, Pa.; two sons, Robert J. Wisker and wife, Marjorie, Woodbury, Pa., and John M. Wisker, Potomac Park, Cumberland; a sister, Ruth Morris and husband, George, Hicksville, N.Y.; two granddaughters, Amanda J. Wisker, Hagerstown, and Nichole A. Strano, Philadelphia; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Gleason, Long Beach, N.Y.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Maryland Veterans cemetery Chapel, Rocky Gap, on Wednesday at noon with the Rev. Reginald Russo, O.F.M., Cap. officiating.
Interment will be in the Veterans Cemetery.
KENNETH D. WITMER SR.
LAVALE - Kenneth Diller Witmer Sr., 68, of 1022 Weires Ave., LaVale, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999.
Born Nov. 4, 1930, near State Line, Pa., he was the son of the late Raymond Martin Witmer and Mary (Diller) Witmer. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Nathan Witmer.
Mr. Witmer was founder and president of Witmer Foods Inc. in LaVale, and had served on numerous professional boards and committees. He currently was serving as a member of the board of directors of First Peoples Community Federal Credit Union.
He was a member of LaVale United Methodist Church, where he attended regularly and served on several committees. He was a member of Potomac Lodge 100 AF & AM; the Cumberland Scottish Rite; and the Ali Ghan Shrine Temple, where he served as a member of the Country Club Board. He also was a member of the Ali Ghan Desert Legion and was a past commander of that unit. He was a member of Cumberland Lodge 63 BPO Elks; a charter member of the LaVale Rescue Squad; a member of the United Commercial Travelers; and a member of the Cumberland Royal Order of Jesters.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Patricia A. (Spessard) Witmer; four daughters, Sondra Giniewski and husband Richard, York, Pa., Donna Gervason and husband Craig, Winter Springs, Fla., Diane Witmer, LaVale, and Laurie Hartung and husband Brian, and their children Kayla and Brian, of Cumberland; two sons, Kenneth D. Witmer Jr. and wife Nancy, and Jerri L. Witmer and wife Taune, all of LaVale; three sisters, Dortha Kipe, Greencastle, Pa., Retha Keener, Hagerstown, and Mildred Landis, Chambersburg, Pa.; three brothers, Richard Witmer and Clarence Witmer, both of Greencastle, and Raymond Witmer, Morgantown, W.Va.; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Potomac Lodge 100 AF & AM will hold Masonic Services Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be conducted at the LaVale United Methodist Church Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bernadette Ross officiating.
There will be visitation at the church one hour prior to the services.
Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Vince Bair, Jonathan Witmer, Matthew Lignelli, Nathaniel Witmer, Benjamin Witmer and Brian Hartung Jr., all grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ali Ghan Desert Legion.
