KEVIN VAUGHN
Kevin "Bud" Vaughn, 48, Butler, Pa., died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, after a yearlong battle with lymphoma.
Born Dec. 21, 1956, in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was the beloved grandson of William and Gertrude Bauer of McHenry and the beloved son of the late Paul Vaughn of Orlando, Fla., and Eleanor (Bauer) Vaughn Weaver of Pittsburgh.
Bud spent 10 years traveling for Westinghouse as a generator winder. He then had a second career in sales, most recently with Interstate Batteries, where he excelled as a sales rep. Some of his accounts were in the western Maryland area. He was an avid dirt biker, street rider, and motorcycle mechanic. He was a loving father and enjoyed riding and other activities with his children, including visits to Deep Creek Lake.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ann; son Joel, 12; daughter Stella, 15; and stepfather Rich Weaver, Pittsburgh.
His brother, Bill Vaughn, and wife Marianne of McHenry and his beloved nephew, William Bauer Vaughn, Big Sky, Mont., and Lake Tahoe, Calif., also survive him.
A service was held on March 1 and 2 in Butler.
REXFORD O. BITTINGER
Rexford Owen Bittinger Jr., 69, Hanover, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at his home.
Born May 18, 1935, in Meyersdale, Pa., he was the son of the late Rexford and Mildred (Miller) Bittinger.
He is survived by his wife, Judith E. (Hone) Bittinger; two sons, Timothy O. Bittinger and Michael T. Bittinger, both of Hanover; one daughter, Kimberly M. Wroten, Fallston; two brothers, John Regis Bittinger, Cumberland, and Patrick Bittinger, Lanham; one sister, Mary Mildred Hengelsberg, Allison Park, Pa.; and eight grandchildren.
Friends will be received today, Thursday, March 3, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Grantsville.
Interment will be in Steele Cemetery, Friendsville.
Military graveside rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 71.
ROY J. ZIMMERMAN
Roy J. Zimmerman, 78, Oakland, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born June 25, 1926, in Oakland, he was the son of the late Roy and Elva (Hill) Zimmerman.
He was a member of the Calvary Temple, Accident, and was a retired truck driver and a former manager of Southern Sanitation, Oakland. He owned and operated a school bus for the Garrett County Board of Education from 1961 to 1975.
He is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Kirkpatrick, Baltimore, and Linda Gray, Mt. Clare, W.Va.; one son, Roy Alan Zimmerman, Joppa; five sisters, Lenore Bishop, Albright, W.Va., Lena Painter, Luray, Va., Mildred Kitzmiller, Mtn. Lake Park, Vesta Liller, Oakland, and Lela Paugh, Mtn. Lake Park; one brother, L. Edward Zimmerman, Deer Park; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was held today, Thursday, March 3, with the Rev. Gail Hixon officiating.
Interment was in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.
HULDAH B. DeWITT
Huldah Barbara DeWitt, 80, Accident, went to be with the lord Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Cherry Hill Assisted Living.
Born March 16, 1924, in Cove, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Lydia (Miller) Harman. Mrs. DeWitt was also preceded in death by her husband, Carroll G. DeWitt, Aug. 23, 1997, after 55 years of marriage.
Mrs. DeWitt spent her entire life as a homemaker serving the needs of her family. She acquired skills in quilting, crocheting, sewing, and enjoyed making gifts for her family. After her husband retired, they were able to travel extensively.
Surviving are one son, Chester F. DeWitt and wife Virginia, Purcellville, Va.; one daughter, Pauline L. Bittinger, Barton; two grandsons, Randall Bittinger, Barton, and Wyatt Bittinger and wife Kandyce, Fairmont, W.Va.; two great-grandchildren, Bryce Carroll and Jenna Brielle Bittinger, both of Fairmont; three sisters, Anna Long, Morgantown, Bertha Kahl, Randallstown, and Beulah Thomas, Accident; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Clyde and Mary Annabelle Sanner, Friendsville, and Adrian and Nancy DeWitt, Punta Gorda, Fla.; and one sister-in-law, June DeWitt, Sarasota, Fla.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Friday, March 4, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A service will be conducted on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hoyes United Methodist Church, with the Rev. George Loar officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ed Carr, Robert Calvert, Alva Rexroad, Jim Fratz, Dwayne Fratz, and Daniel Porter.
Wayne Mosser will serve as honorary pallbearer.

SARAH DeWITT
Sarah "Sally" DeWitt, 75, Keyser, W.Va., died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Heartland Nursing Home, Keyser.
Born Aug. 7, 1929, in Brownsville, Pa., she was a daughter of the late James and Lena (Spiker) McAndrews. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence H. DeWitt, in 1993.
She was a licensed practical nurse in the office of Dr. James H. Feaster, Oakland, and received her nursing degree at the Cadillac Hospital in Washington state.
She is survived by a very special friend and caregiver, Ethel Hines, Keyser; two stepdaughters, Marion Hartley, Richmond, Wash., and Jean Morey, Benton City, Wash.; five sisters, Edith Wiltrout and Carole Sabatula, both of Bobtown, Pa., Barbara Lukachinsky, Cleveland, Ohio, Patricia Lukachinsky, Needles, Calif., and Jeanne Zeigler, Lake Suzy, Fla.; four brothers, James McAndrews, Needles, William McAndrews, Sacramento, Calif., Louis McAndrews, Henderson, Nev., and Allen Mc-Andrews, Kittanning, Pa.; several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and a special furry friend, Annie.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Friday, March 4, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

JULIA M. GONDER HOVING
Julia M. Gonder Hoving, 83, Rockville, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005.
She was born July 29, 1921. The last survivor of the four children of Joseph and Lula Gonder, Oakland, she was survived by her son, Christopher H. Hoving, Gaithersburg, and her niece, Beverly Jordan, Washington, Ill.
'Judy' was a highly intelligent, well-read, and creative person with a sharp sense of humor. Trained as a registered nurse, she joined the Army Jan. 15, 1944, and served in England for 16 months during World War II treating injured soldiers, one of whom she later married. Following her divorce in 1957, she reared her young son in Washington, D.C., while working at Georgetown University Hospital.
For a number of years, she made exquisite decorative eggs that she sold to discerning buyers through Little Caledonia in Georgetown. She was an early fan of Peter Sellers, James Garner, Johnny Cash, and Tom Jones, and a lifelong devotee of Snoopy, the cartoon dog.
She was a huge influence on her son, encouraging him to be well read, get gerbils as pets, and to attend St. John’s College in Annapolis, where he thrived. She was also a great influence on her niece, who recently said that she learned how to be an aunt from Judy.
From 1984 to 2003, Judy lived in Minneapolis, Minn. A service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Friday, June 10, at 10 a.m. Attendees should arrive early and go to the Administration Building.
ALLAN R. DeWITT
Allan Reed DeWitt, 58, McHenry, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2005 at his residence.
Born March 17, 1947, in Cumberland, he was a son of the late Alvie H. and Stella (Rodeheaver) DeWitt.
Mr. DeWitt was employed by the Garrett County Roads Department as a purchasing assistant, and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren, Mt. Storm VFW, life member of the Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Company, and the Accident Post 208, American Legion.
Surviving are his wife Sandra Kay (Beckman) DeWitt; two sons, Eric DeWitt and wife Melody, Lisbon, Ohio, and Aaron DeWitt and wife Samantha, Oakland; two daughters Tanya Layton and husband Rick, Oakland, and Tara DeWitt, at home; two brothers, Glenn DeWitt, Friendsville, and Andrew DeWitt, Bunker Hill, W.Va.; two sisters, Freda Austin, Oakland, and Janet Bernard, Swanton; four grandchildren, Joshua, Chris, Angel, and Kaitlyn; and two step-granddaughters, Erin and Kristen.
Friends were received at Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville.
A service was held at the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren on Monday, July 18, with the Rev. Philip Matthews officiating.
Interment was held in the Oak Grove Cemetery, where military graveside honors were accorded. Pallbearers were Larry Lewis, Mark Wells, Jamie Rodeheaver, Phil Carr, Jeff Carr, and Eddie Carr. Richard Sherwood served as honorary pallbearer.

DONALD R. EVANS SR.
Donald Richard Evans Sr., 66, Oakland, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born May 20, 1939, in Newburg, W.Va., he was a son of the late Donald M. Evans and Gladys (Bolyard) Evans.
He was retired from Virginia Power & Electric, where he was employed as a mechanic, and was a United States Navy veteran.
He is survived by his former wife, Marjorie M. DiClementi, Petersburg, Va.; one son, Donald R. Evans Jr., Accident; three daughters, Deborah Ann Smith, Petersburg, Theresa Marie Niner, Langley AFB, Va., and Brenda Lee Butler, Mannington, W.Va.; two brothers, Dale E. Evans, Oakland, and George W. Evans, Swanton; one sister, Connie S. Thomas, Katy, Texas; 11 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was held on Saturday, July 16, with the Rev. Douglas Kabell officiating.
Interment was in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.
CHARLES V. PFAFF
Charles Vernon Pfaff, 83, Oakland, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born July 7, 1922, in Ocean, he was a son of the late Jesse Pfaff and Emma (Caton) Pfaff. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Mary Margaret (Brown) Pfaff, in 1996; three sisters; and two brothers.
He was retired from Trans World Airlines, where he served in various positions. He served in the U.S. Army as an anti-air-craft gunner during World War II.
Surviving are two sons, Bruce Charles Pfaff, Hagerstown, and Robert V. Pfaff, with whom he resided, Oakland; four grandchildren; and one sister, Joyce Fisher, Frostburg.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, where a service was held on Saturday, July 16, with the Rev. Dana P. Cassidy officiating.
Interment was in the Frostburg Memorial Park.
