John Morris Jr.
John W. Morris Jr., 71, of Annapolis, died of cancer July 30, 2002 at his home.
Born in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 30, 1930, Mr. Morris served during the Korean conflict with the Marine Corps, and was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant.
He retired in 1990 as congressional information officer at the Government Printing Office after more than 25 years of service.
He belonged to the Fleet Reserve Club of Annapolis, the Elks, the Knights of Pythias and the American Legion.
His wife, Ruth M. Morris, died in 1997.
Surviving are two sons, John W. Morris III of Annapolis and Daniel T. Hall of Gainesville, Va.; and one grandson.
A memorial gathering will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Fleet Reserve Club, 100 Compromise St. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 8424 Veterans Highway, Millersville, MD 21108.
Rita Nagel
Rita J. Moreland Nagel, 65, of Pinellas Park, Fla., died of natural causes Aug. 2, 2002 at Sun Coast Hospital in Largo, Fla.
Mrs. Nagel was born July 19, 1937, in Baltimore, and was a longtime resident of Severna Park. A homemaker, she moved to Florida in 1993.
Her husband, James Nagel, died in 1983.
Surviving are one son, M. Edward Nagel of Dayton, Ohio; her mother, Velma Robinson of Pinellas Park; and her sister, Santa Cross of Newberry, Fla.
Visitation is from 6 to 9 tonight at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where services will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow. Burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery in Brooklyn.
Nellie Shaw
Nellie Leona Parks "Bootie" Shaw, 90, a longtime resident of Annapolis and a foster mother for more than 400 children over the years, died of natural causes Aug. 5, 2002 at her home after a six-month illness.
Mrs. Shaw was born Jan. 19, 1912, in Lothian. She worked at the Naval Academy Laundry and for Admiral Laundry.
She served as a foster mother for many years. She also was a member of the Socialites and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Eastport Volunteer Fire Department. Her interests included crocheting, yard sales and auctions.
Her husband, Paul Shaw, died in 1968.
Surviving are three sons, Emory B. Swink Sr., Donald E. Swink and Kevin Shaw, all of Annapolis; two daughters, Tanya Shaw of Annapolis and Angie Shaw of the Eastern Shore; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
She was the sister of the late Roy, Brenard, Lawrence and Doris Parks, Gladys Sadler and Mildred Reppenhagen.
Visitation is from 7 to 9 tonight and from 10:30 to 11 a.m. tomorrow at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., where services will follow. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Michael Wiley
Michael Leroy John Wiley, 45, of Crofton and formerly of Annapolis, died Aug. 4, 2002 of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's disease, at his home.
Mr. Wiley was born March 24, 1957, in Ohio where he attended Miami University of Oxford. For the past 12 years he was a member of the Secret Service Uniform Division.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church. In Ohio, he volunteered for the Millville Fire Department. He was a third generation firefighter, with his grandfather, father and brother all serving in the fire department. His interests included running and SCUBA diving.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Wiley; one son, Ian Wiley of the home; his brother, John Wiley of Ohio; and his sister, Carol Wiley of Indiana.
He was the son of the late John L. Wiley Sr. and Eileen Fetzer Wiley.
A memorial Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church, 1070 Cecil Ave., Millersville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are by Hardesty Funeral Home in Gambrills.

Richard Bingham
Richard Colson Bingham, 79, of Severna Park, died of natural causes Aug. 5, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a five-year illness.
Mr. Bingham was born in St. Petersburg, Fla., and lived there and in Parkersburg, W.Va., while growing up. He also resided in Chicago, Ill., Pittsburgh, Pa., and North Palm Beach, Fla.
He attended Marietta College for two years and then enlisted in the Naval Air Corps in 1942. He became a lieutenant junior grade and flew PBY4's, B-24's and Privateers.
After World War II he was a sports broadcaster and baseball play-by-play announcer for WTSP Radio and the St. Pete Saints from 1947 to 1951. Then he broadcast the Mutual Game of the Day from 1951 to 1952 before joining WBBM Radio in Chicago. From 1955 to 1958 he was affiliated with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
From the 1960s to 1972 Mr. Bingham was president of Bingham Realty.
He was a Mason who also enjoyed playing golf.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Elzey Bingham; two daughters, Barbara Strouse of Columbus, Ohio, and Beverly Knepshield of Denver, Colo.; two sons, Richard Bingham of Columbus and Robert Bingham of Severna Park; one sister, Marjorie Nichols of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and 12 grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Charles Bingham.
Visitation is from noon to 1 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where services will be at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery in Parkersburg.

Emma Curtin
Emma Sophie Curtin, 97, a resident of Millersville since 1918, died Aug. 6, 2002 at her son's residence in Crownsville after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Curtin was born March 28, 1905, in Wichita, Kan. She was a homemaker who also had worked in the Anne Arundel County Public School system cafeteria. She also had been an aide on school buses.
She was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed word puzzles, games, reading, sewing and watching "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune" on television.
She was the widow of Robert John Curtin Sr., the mother of the late Robert John Curtin Jr. and Dorothea L. Burke, the daughter of the late John and Louise Weber Demmel and the sister of the late William J. and Henry S. Demmel.
Surviving are three sons, James W. Curtin of Crownsville, George F. Curtin of Lothian and William A. Curtin of Easton; two daughters, Mary E. Faust of Annapolis and Gladys M. Cornell of Laurel; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road, Gambrills, where services will be at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Fort Lincoln cemetery in Brentwood.
