Aubrey Akers
Aubrey Stevenson Akers, 51, of Glen Burnie, died Aug. 7, 2002 of liver disease at the home of a family member in Edgewater, where he had lived for the past four months. He had been ill for two and a half years.
Mr. Akers was born June 19, 1951, in West Virginia and attended Annapolis High School.
He was self-employed in the tree service business.
Mr. Akers attended the Church of God in Gambrills.
He enjoyed playing pool and poker, bowling and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Akers; three sons, Steven Akers, Aubrey Akers Jr. and Michael Akers, all of Annapolis; seven daughters, Laura Akers of Odenton, Dawn Akers, Milissa Akers, Tina Compton, Deanna Akers, Mary Akers and Kristie Akers, all of Annapolis; his brother, Gary Akers of Annapolis; four sisters, Betty Sears of Edgewater, Linda Parlier, Margaret Akers and Mary Russell, all of Annapolis; and 10 grandchildren.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
David Beron
David Marvin Beron, 71, a resident of Severna Park for 22 years, died of Parkinson's disease and cancer Aug. 6, 2002 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Baltimore.
Mr. Beron was born Aug. 13, 1930, in Philadelphia, where he received his bachelor of arts degree from Temple University. He served as a first lieutenant in the Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Beron retired as a senior manufacturing engineer from Westinghouse Electric Corp.'s Oceanic Division in Annapolis after 25 years of service.
He was a member of Severna Park Elks Lodge 2482 and the Severn River Association. His interests included cars and following the Baltimore Orioles baseball team.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Alice Beron; one daughter, Michele Gregory of Arlington, Va.; two sons, Andrew Beron of Severna Park and Michael Beron of Arnold; and one grandson.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery in Crownsville.

Mary Ellen Diamond
Mary Ellen "M.E." Diamond, 74, a 22-year resident of Woods Landing in Annapolis and formerly of Steff-En-Point, died Aug. 7, 2002 of renal failure due to multiple myeloma at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Mrs. Diamond was born July 6, 1928, in Baltimore where she graduated from Girls Latin High School. She attended Colby Junior College in New Hampshire.
She worked in various capacities at the Ginger Cove retirement community.
Mrs. Diamond served as president of the Severn Town Club. She also volunteered with the Anne Arundel Medical Center Auxiliary and the American Red Cross. She belonged to the Power Squadron, the Annapolis Yacht Club and the Bay Hills Golf Club.
Her interests included golf, art, boating, books, bridge and traveling.
She was divorced in 1969 from John W. Steffey Sr. On Jan. 3, 1970, she married
Donald F. Diamond, who died July 12.
Surviving are two sons, John W. Steffey Jr. of Chester and William Steffey of Annapolis; one daughter, Lynda Christie of Annapolis; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial gathering will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the family residence, 538 Fawns Walk, Woods Landing, Annapolis. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home.

Hilda Franklin
Hilda L. Franklin, 78, of Suitland and formerly of Lothian, died Aug. 5, 2002 at Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton after a brief illness.
Ms. Franklin was born Jan. 15, 1924, in Calvert County and was educated in Calvert County public schools. She lived in Lothian until moving to Suitland about 15 years ago.
She was employed by the Wayson family until retiring. Her interests included cooking, singing, listening to gospel music, fishing and crafts.
Surviving are four daughters, Hilda V. Tucker-Johnson of Capitol Heights and Alice E. Tucker-Carroll, Thelma R. Tucker-Douglas and Gloria M. Tucker of Suitland; three sons, Norman C. Tucker of Upper Marlboro, Glen Lee Tucker of Florida and Douglas P. Tucker of Baltimore; three sisters, Ethel Cunningham of Coatesville, Pa., Gertrude Hall of Detroit, Mich., and Clarice Sellman of Lothian; 21 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. tomorrow at Sollers United Methodist Church, 1219 Wrighton Road, Lothian, with services at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Moses cemetery in Lothian. Arrangements are by Sewell Funeral Home in Prince Frederick.
Nancy German
Nancy Susan Moss German, 58, a 30-year resident of Annapolis and previously of the Georgetown area of Washington, D.C., a longtime legislative aide, died of cancer Aug. 8, 2002 at her home in Annapolis.
Mrs. German was born in Richmond, Va. She attended St. Catherine's School and received a bachelors degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va.
From 1998 to the time of her illness, she worked as a legislative liaison in the secretary's office at the state Department of Natural Resources.
Previously, she worked for state senators and on a congressional staff at the U.S. House of Representatives. Among her positions were in the offices of State Senator Thomas V. "Mike" Miller, D-Prince George's, and former State Senator Frank Shore. She also worked in the Secretary of State's office from 1974 to 1978. She worked on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., from 1968 to 1973.
Mrs. German was a member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Annapolis and the Maryland chapter of the Virginia Society of Women.
She was known for her gourmet cooking.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Barry B. German; two daughters, Brienne Butler German and Blair Scott German of Annapolis; her mother, Helen Smith Moss of Richmond, Va.; one brother, Robert Clinton Moss III of Richmond, Va.; and two sisters, Catherine Moss Bayliss of Richmond, Va., and Jane Moss Lambert of Cary, N.C.
A memorial gathering for Mrs. German will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anne's Church.

Booker Gunn
Retired Chief Warrant Officer Booker T. Gunn Sr., 79, of Martinsville, Va., and formerly of Annapolis, died Aug. 7, 2002 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Chief Gunn was born Dec. 2, 1922, in Tuskegee, Ala., the son of the late Johnny and Anna Perry Gunn.
He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, having served in the Army and then the Navy.
He was the former owner of Gunn Buick in Martinsville, which he operated for 12 years. Previously, he worked for Phipps Buick in Annapolis.
Chief Gunn was a member and deacon of Bethel United Way of the Cross Church in Danville, Va. He also belonged to the Men's Roundtable Club, the Disabled American Veterans and the Military Order of the World Wars.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Pinkney Gunn; five sons, Booker T. Gunn Jr. and John R. Gunn of Martinsville, Alexander and Michael Gunn of Baltimore and Robert Gunn of Edison, N.J.; one daughter, Diane Nero of Upper Marlboro; three sisters, Flora Thomas Griggs of Alexandria City, Ala., Johnnie Russell of Oakland, Calif., and Willadean Williams of Tuskegee; and seven grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late Henry Hoover Gunn, Anna Nurse and Annie Mae Johnson.
Services will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Bethel Way of the Cross Church in Danville, where the family will receive friends an hour before the service. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Sept. 3 at Arlington National Cemetery.
