Frank Sarlin Jr.
Frank Sarlin Jr., 90, of Severna Park, died of natural causes Aug. 21, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
He was born in Milwaukee, Wis., and raised in Elkhart, Ind., and Baltimore.
He was married
on Jan. 31, 1941, to the former Minda Linnea Foudila who died in December 2001.
He lived in Silver Spring for 23 years before retiring to Hendersonville, N.C., for 10 years. He returned to Maryland 11 years ago and moved to Heritage Harbour. He had lived at Sunrise Assisted Living in Severna Park for the past two year.
An electrical engineering graduate of Johns Hopkins University, he was employed at Bethlehem Steel Corp. at the Key Highway and Sparrows Point shipyards.
He retired as chief of the electrical branch of the Maritime Administration in Washington, D.C.
He is survived by two sons, Ronald A. Sarlin of Arnold and Robert F. Sarlin of LaJolla, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services are private. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Funeral Home.
Richard Evans
Richard L. Evans, 75, of Heritage Harbour, Annapolis, and previously Springfield, Va., died Aug. 22, 2002 at Manor Care in Chevy Chase of Alzheimer's disease.
Mr. Evans was born July 5, 1927, in Emerson, Neb. He served in the Marine Corps and worked at the Martin Bomber Plant during WWII making B-29s. He fought at the Chossan Reservoir during the Korean War. He worked for the United States Information Agency stationed in Manila, Philippines, and Beirut, Lebanon, and received the "Award of Valor" from the Department of State for outstanding duty and staying behind during the evacuation of Americans from Beirut in 1975. While with the USIA, he did extensive traveling in Africa, South America and the Middle East. He retired in 1988.
A past member and Commander of the American Legion in Arlington, Vt., his hobbies included hunting, fishing and golfing.
He is survived by his wife, Bernadette A. Evans of Annapolis; two sons, Gale R. Evans of Salt Lake City, Utah, and James R. Evans of Gambrills; two daughters, Linda A. Skorheim of Laguna Niguel, Calif., and Carolyn K. Marcian of Harwood; one brother, Russell E. Evans of Honey Creek, Iowa; five grandsons; and one great-grandson.
Visitation will be tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 515 Loch Haven Road, Edgewater. Burial will immediately follow in Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1080 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville.

Peggy Ludwig
Peggy "Pug" C. Ludwig, of Edgewater, and previously Camp Springs, died Aug. 23, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center of Melanoma. She was 42.
Mrs. Ludwig was born Oct. 12, 1959, in Washington, D.C. Formerly, she worked at the Capital Club Restaurant in the MCI Center.
She was a devoted Christian and mother and enjoyed crafts and sports of all kinds.
She is survived by her husband, William "Bill" Ludwig of Edgewater; one son, Billy C. Ludwig of the home; two daughters, Jennifer M. and Jaclyn C. Ludwig, both of the home; her parents, Wallace and Marie Aley of Camp Springs; one grandmother, Elizabeth L. Aley of Monrovia; four brothers, John L. Aley of Waldorf, Wallace R. Aley Jr. of Owings, Richard T. Aley of Mechanicsville and Lawrence J. Aley of Camp Springs; three sisters, Diane T. Kitts of Waldorf, Linda M. Ludwig of Deep Creek and Mary E. Richardson of Hughesville.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. Burial will be private.

Paulina Mallder
Paulina Ward Mallder, a resident of Annapolis for 34 years, and formerly of Newport, R.I., died of lung cancer Aug. 22, 2002 at her home. She was 72.
Mrs. Mallder was born Feb. 27, 1930, in Washington, D.C., where she attended St. Cecilia High School. She worked as a fashion model in New York City, as a real estate agent and appraiser and for the Hecht Co. in Annapolis.
She attended St. Mary's Catholic Church and enjoyed working in her garden and being with friends.
On Oct. 3, 1959, she was married
to Clark R. Mallder.
Also surviving are one son, Clark D. Mallder, serving with the Army at Fort Rucker, Ala.; one daughter, Valerie A. Mallder of Columbia; one brother, David Harmon of Spring Lake Heights, N.J.; and one grandchild.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road. Burial is at 11 a.m. Thursday at Arlington National Cemetery.

Doris Marshall
Doris L. Marshall, 79, a longtime resident of Edgewater and previously Baltimore, died Aug. 23, 2002 at Genesis Eldercare Spa Creek, Annapolis. The cause of death was not available.
Mrs. Marshall was born Jan. 29, 1923, in Baltimore.
She was a member of Parkwood United Methodist Church in Edgewater, where she participated in the United Methodist Women and the worship committee.
Her hobbies included sewing, baking, volunteering in church, line dancing and cooking for friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin R. Marshall, who died July 30, 1996; one son, Thomas E. Killen; one brother, Thomas E. Leverton; and two sisters, Betty Fink and Shirley Schwartz.
Surviving are one sister, Eileen Marr of Baltimore, and three grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1080 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville where burial will follow. Arrangements are by the John M. Taylor Funeral Home, Annapolis.

Robert Miller
Robert Ernest Miller, 86, a longtime resident of Gambrills, died Aug. 24, 2002 at North Arundel Hospital. The cause of death was not available.
Mr. Miller was born Nov. 1, 1915, in Rockbridge Baths, Va., and grew up in Princess Anne.
He served in the Navy Seabees during WWII. From the 1940s to the 1960s, he delivered Baltimore newspapers. He owned and operated Millers Tavern in Herald Harbor and Rudy's Tavern on Generals Highway.
A lifetime member of the Gambrills Athletic Club, he also enjoyed carpentry and gardening.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Florence Eutsler Miller of Gambrills; three sons, Robert Miller Jr. of Millersville, Raymond Miller of Annapolis and Fred Miller of Stafford, Va.; one daughter, Anita Dorr of Gambrills; two sisters, Nell Snyder of Eaton, Ohio, and Virginia Brady of Slidell, La.; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may call tomorrow from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road, Gambrills. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Baldwin United Methodist Church, 921 Generals Highway, Millersville. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Rosella Schottroff
Rosella Marilyn Crist Schottroff, 74, a resident of Crownsville for 42 years, died June 30, 2002 of massive heart failure while traveling the Oregon Trail.
Born in St. Cloud, Minn., Mrs. Schottroff graduated from high school in Minneapolis, Minn., and moved to Washington, D.C., where she met and married
Vernon Schottroff in 1949.
A homemaker and retired secretary from the Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works, she was an active member of the South Shore Baptist Church for 42 years. She held numerous teaching positions and enjoyed her time in the choir.
She spent half of the last 11 years traveling the United States and Canada, covering more than 150, 000 miles.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Schottroff is survived by three sons, Steven Schottroff of Millersville, Stanley Schottroff of Crownsville and Gary Schottroff of Perry Hall; two brothers, Robert Crist of Minneapolis and Roger Crist of Pengilly, Minn.; and two granddaughters.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at South Shore Baptist Church. Burial will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery in Crownsville.
