James Davis
James Burch "Bodie" Davis, 36, of Annapolis, died Oct. 9, 2002 at his home due to complications of AIDS.
Born in Washington, D.C., on April 20, 1965, Mr. Davis lived a good portion of his life in Provincetown, Mass., where he was considered a gifted artist and environmental activist. He resided in Annapolis for the past six months.
He served on the local zoning board in Provincetown, where he attempted to curtail large-scale developments in the Cape Cod National Seashore area. He created, through land donations from residents, a comprehensive organic food program, which still thrives.
Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Dolores and Peter Steenland of Annapolis; his father and stepmother, James Birch Duvall Jr. and Sharon Duvall of Cambridge; his sister, Gina White and his brother, Joseph "Joe" Davis both of Annapolis; and his stepbrother, Peter Steenland III of New York.
No formal services are planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 8424 Veterans Highway, Millersville, MD 21108.
Mary Lou Douthit
Mary Lou Douthit, 86, of West River and formerly of Little Rock, Ark., died of heart failure Oct. 9, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Mrs. Douthit was born Nov. 3, 1915, in Hope, Ark., the daughter of the late Edward Boyette and Ara Minnie Pickard Collier. She graduated in 1933 from Little Rock High School.
She was a beautician in Erwin's Beauty Shop in Little Rock prior to serving as municipal county clerk for 10 years.
She attended Pulaski Heights Methodist Church in Little Rock and First Methodist Church in Searcy, Ark. She was an active member of the Community Bible Study and La Moderne Club.
On Jan. 11, 1947, she married
George C. Douthit, who died in 1985.
Surviving are a daughter, Lana Douthit Bethune of Searcy and West River; one brother, Tom Collier of Memphis, Tenn.; two grandchildren; and seven great-granddaughters.
She was the sister of the late Aubrey, Otis, Ed and Bernice Collier, Bessie Collier Smith and Mason Jane Erwin.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Chapel, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock, Ark., where funeral services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Rest Hills Memorial Park in Little Rock. Local arrangements are by Hardesty Funeral Home in Galesville.

Eleanor Faulhaber
Eleanor Faulhaber, 81, a four-year resident of Arnold, died of respiratory failure Oct. 8, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Mrs. Faulhaber was born Dec. 31, 1920, in Atco, N.J., and raised in Berlin, N.J. The widow of Major Frederick C. Faulhaber, she also lived in Stratford and Barrington, N.J.; Waco, Texas; Tachikawa, Japan; Clark Air Force Base in the Philippine Islands; Dover, Del.; and Istanbul, Turkey, during his military career.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, golf, bridge, mah jong and gardening.
Surviving are three daughters, Judith P. Faulhaber Fowler of Arnold, Deborah A. Faulhaber of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Susan C. Faulhaber Wiley of Hudson, Mass.; one brother, Edward C. Schiffendecker of Berlin, N.J.; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 28 in Berlin Cemetery. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.

Ann Rich
Ann Dunnington Hill Rich, 91, a longtime resident of Annapolis, died Oct. 4, 2002 at her home, Sur la Branche, after a brief illness.
Born Dec. 6, 1910, to Grace Dunnington Clarke and Samuel Hill, Mrs. Rich was the sister of the late Stirling and Carroll Hill. She graduated in 1929 from Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore and made her debut at the Bachelors Cotillion there.
Subsequently, she held various jobs including secretary at Gilman School and Allied Aviation. During World War II, she joined the Red Cross and served in the Philippines, Brazil and Okinawa, Japan. Her task was to see that "the boys" weren't too homesick or lonely, arranging dances, staging variety shows, writing letters and listening with sympathy and understanding.
After the war, she was a sales representative for United Fruit and then moved to Annapolis where she worked for Rigg and Co. Yacht Brokers and as secretary and assistant to Richard Weigle, president of St. John's College from 1948 to 1954.
She married
Woodward Baldwin Rich on Nov. 26, 1954. They designed and built their home on the banks of the Severn River. Active sailors and avid travelers, they especially enjoyed visiting Italy.
After Mr. Rich died in 1985, she continued to travel. She was a lifetime member of the Caritas Society of St. John's College and was a member of the Annapolis Yacht Club and the Bryn Mawr School Alumni Association.
Surviving are two nieces, Harriet Rich O'Donovan Sheehy of Ireland and Louise Rich Cramer of Queenstown; one nephew, Robert L. Rich of Annapolis; and several grand- and great-grandnieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 16 at Baldwin Memorial United Methodist Church, 921 Generals Highway, Millersville. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home.

Patricia Sipes
Patricia D. "Pat" Sipes, 54, of Annapolis, died Oct. 9, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center due to complications from a stroke.
Mrs. Sipes was born June 3, 1948, in Baltimore, and received her associate of arts degree from Anne Arundel Community College. She was employed by the county Board of Education for 23 years, working at Oak Hill Elementary School in Severna Park and at Magothy River Middle School in Arnold, most recently as a secretary.
She enjoyed collecting and trading "Pauline" dolls on eBay, where she developed friendships with people across the country and in Australia.
Surviving are one son, John A. Sipes III of Westminster; one sister, Pamela Caskey of Long Beach, Calif.; one granddaughter; and her companion of 16 years, Donald E. Manz of Annapolis.
She was the daughter of the late Edward O. and Mildred C. Padden.
A Mass of Christian burial will be said at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home.

Andrew Smith
Andrew Velpoc Smith Sr., 94, a 32-year resident of Edgewater and previously of Annapolis, died of natural causes Oct. 8, 2002 at his home.
Mr. Smith was born June 9, 1908, in Birmingham, Ala. He graduated from Auburn University, formerly Alabama Polytechnic Institute, in 1930 with a degree in civil engineering. He was self-employed and built many of the highway overpasses on Route 50 and I-70 as well as emergency air fields during World War II.
He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Tau Beti Pi honors fraternity and Lambda Chi fraternity. He also was a longtime member of the Annapolis Yacht Club. He enjoyed gardening and following Auburn football.
Mr. Smith was an early aviator with the Alabama Air National Guard and later the Army Air Corps.
In 1963, he received an award for saving several children's lives during an escalator accident at Baltimore's Memorial Stadium.
He married
Elizabeth P. Smith, who died July 3, 1998.
He was the father of Bryant T. Smith, who died in 1993, and the brother of the late Sumpter, Hester M. and Victor Smith, Joseph D. Smith Jr., Edward S. Smith Sr., Sarah Rigney, Ellizabeth Burton, Elsie Hill and Mary Jo Patton.
Surviving are two sons, Andrew V. Smith Jr. of Cape St. Claire and John P. Smith of Edgewater; one daughter, Mettie M. Smith of Annapolis; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., and at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 4 Wallace Manor Road in Edgewater, where the funeral will follow at 1:30 p.m.
