James Byrd
James Edward "Pop" Byrd, 66, of Davidsonville, died Oct. 24, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mr. Byrd was born May 29, 1936, in Davidsonville. He had recently worked in construction for the Annapolis Concrete Co.
He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, gardening and being outside or on the water.
Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl Byrd of Lothian and Eurika McDowell of Pasadena; two sisters, Elizabeth Parker of Davidsonville and Louise Byrd Thomas of Prince George's County; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. tomorrow at Reese and Sons Mortuary. No formal services are planned, and burial will be private.
Anna Grice
Anna Marie Hall Grice, 70, of Takoma Park and Deale, died Oct. 24, 2002 at the Westport Healthcare Center in Richmond, Va., of complications from Alzheimer's disease.
Mrs. Grice was born May 9, 1932, in Washington, D.C. On June 7, 1952, she married
Frank T. Grice and became a homemaker.
She always made room for friends at her family's table and her home became a haven and sanctuary for all who needed it, her family said.
She was active in Girl Scouts, serving in various leadership roles and working in the local office. She was a longtime member of St. Mark's Chapel, part of St. James' Parish in Tracys Landing.
An accomplished seamstress, she sewed everything from designer gowns and children's clothes to boat curtains and covers. She also enjoyed bowling on a weekly duckpin league.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Betty Helms of Richmond, Va., and one grandson.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until noon tomorrow at the Rausch Funeral Home, 8325 Mount Harmony Lane, Owings, where funeral services will follow at noon. Burial will be at the St. James Parish Cemetery, Lothian.

Dennis Grice
Dennis Allan Grice, 49, of Pasadena, died of complications from diabetes Oct. 27, 2002 at University Hospital in Baltimore.
The son of the late Robert and Cynthia Grice, Mr. Grice was born Dec. 17, 1952, in Detroit, and raised in Madison Heights, Mich. He graduated from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant with a bachelor of arts degree in business and became a certified public accountant.
An executive in the leasing industry, most recently he was senior vice president of international finance with CIT Group Financial.
He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants.
He also had lived in Rochester, Mich., London, England, and Boonton, N.J., and he enjoyed playing golf, scuba diving and travel.
Surviving are his wife, Deanne E. Grice; three children, Nicholas Allan and Robert David Grice of Pasadena and Stacy Marie Grice of Cockeysville; and two brothers, Donn Grice of Royal Oak, Mich., and William "Bula" Grice of Sterling Heights, Mich.
Friends and relatives may call from 3 to 5 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Burial will be private.

Robert Hornyak
Robert Francis Hornyak, 56, of Edgewater, died Oct. 25, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. The cause of death was not available.
Mr. Hornyak was born Sept. 27, 1946, in Pittsburgh, and graduated from the University of Scranton with a degree in business management.
He served in the Army during the Vietnam War.
For the past 14 years he had been self-employed as the owner of Technical Connections Inc. in Annapolis.
He was a member of the Poplar Point Yacht Club and served on the Poplar Point Community Association. He was an amateur radio operator and enjoyed sailing and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Diane M. Hornyak; one daughter, Elizabeth A. Bradley of Churchton; two brothers, Donald Hornyak of Texas and William Hornyak of Pensacola, Fla.; three sisters, Kathleen Trickle of Thomson, Ga., Carol Dunn of Daphne, Ala., and Mary Ann Bryant of Mobile, Ala.; and one granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville. Burial will be in Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville.

Michael Lawrence
Retired Army Sgt. Maj. Michael J. Lawrence, 73, a decorated veteran and dedicated volunteer, died of natural causes Oct. 26, 2002 at his home in Gambrills.
Sgt. Maj. Lawrence was born Nov. 19, 1928, in New York City, the son of the late Michael and Mary Tighe Lawrence. He joined the Army in 1946 and served in the Korean War, retiring in 1968. He received the Silver Star, Purple Heart and Legion of Merit.
Subsequently he worked for the Army Corps of Engineers. He retired in 1989 with 42 years of military and civilian service. He was a volunteer for the Red Cross, St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Odenton, where he was a member, the county police and Baltimore-Washington International Airport. He also was a member of the Sacred Heart Council and Knights of Columbus in Bowie.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Eleanor Marie Lawrence; three daughters, Susan Lawrence of Clarksville, Kathleen Fritz of Odenton and Roberta Lawrence of Elkridge; a son, James Lawrence of Crofton; and six grandchildren.
His son, Michael Lawrence Jr., died in 1974.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road, Gambrills. Services will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1283 Odenton Road, Odenton. Burial will follow in Glen Haven cemetery in Glen Burnie.

Lillian Moxley
Lillian Betty "Peck" Moxley, 80, of Arnold, died of a stroke Oct. 26, 2002 at her home after a three-year illness.
Mrs. Moxley was born Oct. 13, 1922, and raised in Baltimore, where she graduated from Forest Park High School. She was a 60-year member of her high school girls' club.
She worked as an office manager for Dr. Sherman Robinson for 12 years and was a homemaker devoted to her family.
During World War II she served as a yeoman third class in the Navy.
Mrs. Moxley attended New Hope Chapel in Edgewater. She loved sports, especially the Baltimore Orioles, and was an expert Scrabble player and enjoyed word games.
Surviving are her husband, Charles W. Moxley Sr.; one son, Charles W. Moxley Jr. of Arnold; two daughters, Pamela Ann Moxley Mosher of Waldorf and Nancy Jean Moxley Hobbs of Arnold; one sister, Florence Geraldine Hopwood of Reisterstown; one brother, Charles A. Snoops of Phoenix; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Jeanne Roppelt.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where services will be held at noon Wednesday. Burial will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery in Cheltenham.
