Cheryl Lokai
Cheryl V. "Cheri" Alfieri Lokai, 41, of Huntsville, Ohio, died March 12, 2006 of natural causes in Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine, Ohio.
A homemaker, Mrs. Lokai was born June 15, 1963, in Nyack, N.Y., the daughter of Rosemary Sherbert Alfieri of New Port Richey, Fla., and the late Robert Alfieri.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Richard "Rick" Lokai; her grandmother, Edwidg Sherbert of New Port Richey; one brother, Charles Alfieri of Silver Spring; three sisters, Terry Bell of Grasonville and Lynn Morse and Maria Alfieri of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and nieces and nephews.
She was the granddaughter of the late Charles and Lucille Macula Alfieri and Richard Sherbert.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Vernon Funeral Home, 235 Miami St., Urbana, Ohio, where friends may call an hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Oakdale cemetery in Urbana.

Stafford Ward
Stafford L. "Muscles" Ward, 82, a resident of Annapolis for 50 years, died March 9, 2006 at home after a lengthy illness.
Born Dec. 7, 1923, in Hampton, Va., Mr. Ward was educated in the Elizabeth City, Va., public school system. He served in the military during World War II and retired from the Naval Academy, where he worked as a baker.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Annapolis and served as church bus driver for many years. His interests included hunting, fishing, gardening and watching sports on television.
Surviving are his wife, Estella Ward, whom he married
Aug. 20, 1960; two sons, Edward Brown of Washington, D.C., and Jessie Corbin of Philadelphia, Pa.; one daughter, Lucille Dorsey of Annapolis; one brother, William Ward, and one sister, Sylvia Burrell, both of Hampton, Va.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Annapolis, 31 W. Washington St., where a Christian wake will be at 10:30 a.m. and the funeral at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Maryland Veterans cemetery in Crownsville. Arrangements are by Reese and Sons Mortuary.
Richard Baxter
Richard Benjamin "Turkey" Baxter, 87, of Stevensville, died March 7, 2006 at the Corsica Hills Center in Centreville.
Born Dec. 24, 1918, and reared in Stevensville, Mr. Baxter was the son of the late Alice Townsend and Richard Tilden Baxter. He attended school in Stevensville and began his working career at the Matapeake Ferry system. He was drafted into the Army during World War II and was a survivor of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.
After his honorable discharge, he returned to Stevensville where he worked for Alfred Hudson as a well driller. For the majority of his life, Mr. Baxter farmed and resided at Kent Point until his retirement in the early 1980s.
He enjoyed collecting many things.
Surviving are two sons, James Richard Baxter and Richard Zell "Rabbit" Baxter, both of Stevensville; three daughters, Helen Mae Kasper of Oregon, Shirley Baxter Thomas of Chester and Kelly Michele Baxter of Chestertown; a sister, Ann Mae Tolson of Pasadena; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Tilden Baxter, and a daughter, Roberta Ann Baxter, both in 1955; a brother, Charles Tilden Baxter; and a grandchild, J.R. Elliott.
Services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 106 Shamrock Road, Chester, where visitation will be an hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Stevensville Cemetery. Visit www.fhnfuneralhome.com for online condolences.
Ernest Beckner
Ernest Thrasher Beckner, 87, of Deale, died of natural causes March 7, 2006 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Mr. Beckner was a draftsman for the Glenn L. Martin Co. and then for the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab before retiring in 1979.
He was born Jan. 16, 1918, in Roanoke, Va., the son of Carl Augustus Beckner and Mamie Souder Beckner, and left school in the eighth grade to help support his family. They moved to Washington, D.C., where he worked as a car hop at the local Hot Shoppes. He join the service, initially the Marine Corps Reserve from 1935 to 1939. He then joined the Army in the Army Air Forces Training Command, serving from 1944 to 1946.
He earned the American Theatre Ribbon and the Asia-Pacific Theatre Ribbon for playing the trumpet for the troops and the Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
He moved to Deale Beach in 1999 to live with his son. His interests included music, his cats, football and keeping a journal. He was known for his cheery disposition, humming or singing softly.
He was the widower of Martha Miriam Beckner, whom he had married
in 1955.
Surviving are one son, Ernest T. Beckner Jr. of Deale; one brother, John Beckner, and one sister, Lisa Sullivan, both of Florida; and two grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late Carl Beckner and Virginia Redmond.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hardesty Funeral Home, 905 Galesville Road, Galesville, where services will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow. Burial will be in Fort Lincoln cemetery in Brentwood.

Carmen Encina
Carmen Paz Encina, 51, of Gambrills and previously of Annapolis, died of breast cancer March 7, 2006 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a five-year illness.
Born Oct. 13, 1954, and educated in Santiago, Chile, Mrs. Encina held a master's degree in business administration. An entrepeneur and business founder, she was the owner of Rentals to Remember, which was a caterer supplier used by major caterers in Annapolis such as Ken's Creative Kitchen, Main Ingredient and Palate Pleasers. She started the business five years ago, a few months prior to her medical diagnosis.
She was a member of the board of directors of the Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. She enjoyed creating businesses, cooking, spending time with family and friends and sewing. She sewed more than 4, 000 table cloths for her company.
Surviving are three children, Roberto A. Pichard Jr. of Gambrills and Luis E. Pichard and Dr. Carmen P. Pichard-Hayes, both of Baltimore. She was the daughter of the late Eduardo and Carmen Forbes-Lackey Encina.
Visitation is from 7 to 9 tonight at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Highway, Bowie. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. tomorrow at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 14720 Annapolis Road, Bowie. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Leona Gardner
Leona Gardner, 86, a resident of Glen Burnie, died of complications of a stroke March 3, 2006 at the Severna Park Center, Genersis ElderCare.
Born Jan. 15, 1920, in Baltimore, Mrs. Gardner was married
to Myers Gardner, who is now deceased.
She worked for the Society Security Administration before retiring in 1989. She loved travel and her cats.
Surviving are a sister, Shirley Nauman of Glen Burnie; three children, Edward Gardner of Canton Country, Calif., Edna Leasure of Lexington Park and Sherry Gosewisch of Severna Park; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Michael Ingram
Michael Ingram, 46, a longtime resident of Millersville, died unexpectedly March 6, 2006 in Denton.
Born March 3, 1960, in Annapolis, Mr. Ingram graduated from Old Mill High School. He was a diesel mechanic for Campbell Sand and Gravel and for Reliable Contracting.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church, the Wiltondale Gun Club and Indian Landing Boat Club. His interests included hunting, fishing, woodworking and cooking.
Surviving are his wife, Susan Wilson Ingram, whom he married
Aug. 30, 1991; one daughter, Ashley Hodak of Millersville; one brother, Gene Ingram of Denton; and two sisters, Mary Taylor of Denton and Carlene Reich of Catonsville.
He was the son of the late Marvin and Catherine Ingram and the brother of the late Paul Ingram.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road, Gambrills, where services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church cemetery in Millersville. Donations may be made to a favorite charity.
