Joseph Mayr
Joseph A. Mayr, 90, a native and lifelong resident of Davidsonville, died of natural causes Feb. 27, 2006 at Crofton Convalescent Center.
Born Nov. 1, 1915, Mr. Mayr was a service manager for 40 years at the Chrysler dealership in Annapolis. From 1934 to 1938 he served in the Marine Corps Reserve.
He was a former member of the Elks and Ruritan Club. Hunting, fishing and gardening were among his interests.
His survivors include his wife of 67 years, Dorothy A. Hardesty Mayr, whom he married
Aug. 20, 1938; one son, Thomas W. Mayr of Sherwood Forest; one daughter, Dorothy "Jean" Wilson of Davidsonville; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was the grandfather of the late George B. Wilson Jr.
Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. tomorrow at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Crofton, followed by a Mass of Christian burial. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Beall Funeral Home in Bowie.

Patricia McGhee
Patricia Joan McGhee, 74, a six-year resident of Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville, died of pneumonia and Parkinson's disease at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. McGhee was born March 10, 1931, and reared in Verona, N.J., and had lived in Reisterstown and Severna Park. She received a bachelor's degree from what is now Montclair State University in New Jersey and later a master's degree in education. She retired as a teacher of English for speakers of other languages teacher from Anne Arundel County Public Schools in 1994.
She was a choir member at Charlestown and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Severna Park. She enjoyed travel, musical theater, swimming and reading.
Her marriage to Richard E. Fischer in 1961 ended in divorce in 1971. In 1976 she married
Virgil C. McGhee, who died in 1996.
Surviving are two sons, Richard Fischer of Beltsville and Rodney Fischer of Annapolis; two daughters, Amy Fischer of Gettysburg, Pa., and Tammy Parker of Akron, Ohio; one stepdaughter, Kathleen Hensley of Baltimore; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made to www.barrancofuneralhome.com.

Lucille Moreland
Lucille Rosie Moreland, 75, a 50-year resident of Lothian, died Feb. 24, 2006 at the Washington, D.C., Hospital Center after a six-month illness.
Born April 14, 1930, in the Nottingham area of Prince George's County, Mrs. Moreland attended Prince George's County public schools. She was a domestic worker.
She was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Lothian and enjoyed cooking, playing cards and spending time with family.
Surviving are her husband, Stanley Moreland, whom she married
Dec. 9, 1955; two stepsons, George Moreland of Lothian and Stanley "Leroy" Moreland of Forestville; two brothers, Ernest and Joseph Wills, both of Maryland; one sister, Catherine Sellman of Landover; five step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. tomorrow at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 41 Ark Road, Lothian, followed by a Christian wake at 10 a.m. and funeral at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are by Reese and Sons Mortuary.
Terrance Schubring
Terrance "Terry" Schubring, 65, a 35-year resident of Bowie and previously of Wausau, Wis., died of brain cancer Feb. 27, 2006 at Heritage Harbour Health and Rehabilitation Center after a seven-month illness.
Mr. Schubring was a news editor at the Voice of America for 33 years.
Born in Wausau on Feb. 5, 1941, he attended the University of Maryland and served eight years in the Navy as a journalist. He was a member of the American Legion.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Schubring, whom he married
Sept. 18, 1965; three daughters, Kristen Hines of Millersville, Karey Dennis of Centreville, Va., and Kimberly Bielecki of Plainfield, Ill.; four brothers, Dale Schubring of King, Wis., Gordon Schubring of Merrill, Wis., Lyle Schubring of Schofield, Wis., and Alan Schubring of Crystal Lake, Ill.; two sisters, Ruth Reetz of Mosinee, Wis., and Ione Meyers of Wausau; and nine grandchildren.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Highway, Bowie. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 14720 Annapolis Road, Bowie. Burial will be private.
Brian Becker
Brian Thomas Becker, 60, an eight-year resident of Annapolis and formerly of Billings, Mont., and Greenwich, Conn., died of natural causes Feb. 28, 2006 at the Hilton, Las Vegas.
Born Aug. 31, 1945, in Berkeley, Calif., the son of the late Clarence and Valeria Becker, Mr. Becker graduated from Dartmouth College in 1966 with a bachelor of arts degree and Amos Tuck School of Business in 1968 with a masters of business administration degree.
Mr. Becker served in the Army as a captain at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers of Europe in Belgium. He earned the Joint Services Commendation Medal.
Recently he begin work for the Exmplar company as vice president of sales. Prior to that, he worked for over 30 years as a senior marketing professional at many companies.
He was a champion for civil liberties and environmental concerns, an ordained minister in the Universal Life Church, and in 2002, completed the Harley Owner's Group ABC's of Touring Challenge, where he was a member and road captain. He was also a member of Trout Unlimited, National Rifle Association and the Sierra Club. His interests included motorcycles, fly fishing, coin collecting, crossword puzzles and reading.
Surviving are one son, Scott Becker of Atlanta; one daughter, Lisa Becker of Milwaukee, Wis.; one brother, Eric Becker of Bellevue, Wash.; two grandchildren; and longtime companion, Jo-Ann Howard of Annapolis.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis. Burial is private.

William Higgins
William Thomas "Bill" Higgins, 83, a resident of Annapolis for 15 years and formerly of Crofton, died of chronic pulmonary disease March 3, 2006 at home.
Born June 12, 1922, in Hurlock, Md., the son of the late Olin R. and Katie W. Higgins, Mr. Higgins graduated from the University of Maryland in 1939 with a bachelor of science and in 1950 with a law degree.
Mr. Higgins served in the Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War. During World War II, he served with the third division in Guam in 1944 and at the Iwo Jima landing in 1945 as a naval gunfire forward observer with the 21st Marine Division. He was also with the 1st Division in Tsinsing, China, where he commanded C Battery of the 11th Marines as a first lieutenant. During the Korean War, he was a captain and staff legal officer at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
He was owner and operator of Utility Audit Corporation from 1983 until recently. Prior to that he was owner of U-Save Oil Company in Washington, D.C. from 1967 to 1982.
His interests included jazz music, bridge, Texas Hold'Em and playing the organ and piano.
On Sept. 4, 1948 he married
Anne F. Higgins, who died March 18, 1992. He was the brother of the late Marjorie H. Greason. Surviving are two daughters, Marjorie H. Upchurch of Pittsboro, N.C. and Deborah K. Higgins of Baltimore.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon tomorrow at John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, where funeral services will be held at noon in the chapel. Burial will follow in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, Timonium.

Joseph Holland
Joseph R. Holland, 69, of Severna Park, died March 3, 2006 at home after a nine-month illness.
Born Nov. 26, 1936, in Plainville, Ind., the son of Alvin and Ester Wade Holland, Mr. Holland graduated from St. John's High School in Loogootee, Ind. in 1955 and Indiana University in 1962. Mr. Holland served in the Army Security Agency from 1957 to 1959. He retired from the National Security Agency in Fort Meade, Md., where he worked from 1964 to 1995.
Surviving are two daughters, Ann-Marie Holland of Severna Park and Catherine E. Holland of Columbia, Md.; and two sisters, Mona Siedel of Washington, Ind. and Sharon Hedinger of Hart, Mich. He was the brother of the late Doris Greenwell and John Holland.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 668 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. Burial will follow in Maryland Veteran's cemetery in Crownsville.
