John Johnson
John Franklin "Gourley" Johnson, 78, a three-year resident of Odenton and formerly of Severn, died of cancer Feb. 28, 2006 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center after a two-month illness.
Born Nov. 30, 1927, in Calvert County, Mr. Johnson attended Calvert County public schools and served in the Army.
Mr. Johnson worked for Denton's Oyster House, the Bank of Glen Burnie and the Fort George G. Meade Boiler Plant as a engineer.
He was a member of Brooks United Methodist Church, Landmark Lodge 40, Jerusalem Temple 4 and Scottish Rite Consistory. His interests included shooting pool, hunting, crabbing and boating.
Surviving are his wife, Mazie Johnson, whom he married
Dec. 16, 1950; three sons, John JJ. and Earl Johnson, both of Odenton, and Richard Johnson of Glen Burnie; three daughters, Rev. Jane Mackall of Odenton, Dorothy Hawes of Sandford, N.C. and Dela Adams of Seabrook, Md.; two brothers, James Johnson of Randallstown and Enoch Johnson of Prince Frederick; four sisters, Charlotte Bright, Mabel Garrett, Roberta Andrews and Iris Harris, all of Island Creek, Md.; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Joseph, Edward and Herbert Johnson and Aleise Brooks.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Apostle True Foundation Church of Jesus Christ, 7629 Amos Ave., Severn, where a Christian wake will be held from 10 to 10:30 a.m. and funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Maryland Veterans cemetery in Crownsville. Arrangements are by William Reese and Sons Mortuary, Annapolis.
Donna Lee
Donna Christy Lee, 76, a resident of Parkhurst, a National Historic Place, in Harwood since 1978, died March 3, 2006 at home.
The daughter of the late Clarence and Olive Sterling Christy, Mrs. Lee was born Aug. 5, 1939, in Crisfield, Md., where she graduated from high school.
Music was an important part of her life. She began voice lessons at the age of eight and later studied voice at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. On her 16th birthday, she sang for Mrs. Millard Avalynee Tawes, the future first Lady of Maryland, and the Annapolis Opera Society. During her teens, she sang for Gov. Tawes and the president of the University of Maryland at dinners honoring them. She continued singing, in church choirs and various chorale groups, including the Naval Academy Chorale, where she participated for 20 years.
Her interests also included needlepoint, for which she won many awards at shows in the Washington, D.C. area, home decorating, gardening and helping families in need.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Surviving are her husband, Ret. Navy Capt. Byron A. Lee, whom she married
April 7, 1951; three daughters, Valerie Sprankle of Falls Church, Va., Kathryn Lee of Northampton, Mass. and Margaret Lee of Fairfax, Va.; and four grandchildren. Memorial services and burial are private. Arrangements are by Hardesty Funeral Home in Annapolis.

Beatrice Shankman
Beatrice G. Shankman, 91, a resident of Laurel for 17 years and formerly of Margate, N.J. and Cocoa Beach, Fla., died of natural causes March 3, 2006 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Born Dec. 5, 1914, in Philia, Pa., Mrs. Shankman was the former owner and operator of Contour Salon in Margate, N.J.
She was the widow of Jacob 'Jack' Shankman. Surviving are one son, Steven Jay Londy of Annapolis; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services and burial are private. Arrangements are by Hardesty Funeral Home in Annapolis.
Amelia Wayson
Amelia Irene Wayson, 86, of West River and formerly of Owensville for over 60 years, died March 3, 2006 at home.
The daughter of the late Charles Frederick and Martha Rebecca Witt, Mrs. Wayson was born Feb. 19, 1920, in Cumberstone, Md., and was a lifelong resident of Southern Anne Arundel County.
Mrs. Wayson worked in the insurance business for 30 years in Upper Marlboro and Annapolis. A gardener, she enjoyed nature and the Chesapeake Bay. Her interests included local, state and national politics.
She was the widow of Eugene Watkins Wayson Sr.; and the sister of the late Charles Leo Witt. Surviving are three children, Martha Irene Humm of Dunkirk, and Barbara Jean Hartgo and Eugene Watkins Wayson Jr., both of West River; one sister, Marie Ridgely of Upper Marlboro; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services and burial are private. Arrangements are by Hardesty Funeral Home, Galesville.

William Addison
William B. C. Addison, 80, of Cedar Hill in Bowie, died March 16, 2006 in Upper Marlboro.
Mr. Addison was born in Baltimore and attended Virginia Episcopal School before serving in the Navy during World War II. He was founder of Addison-Herring Real Estate in Upper Marlboro.
He was a member and past president of the South River Club, the Southern Maryland Society and Vansville Farmers. He also was a member of the Bachelors' Cotillion in Baltimore and the Sailing Club of the Chesapeake.
He served on the vestry of Holy Trinity Church in Upper Marlboro and on the board of Prince George's Federal Savings Bank for more than 30 years.
What he cherished the most were his family, friends and his lifelong passion and appreciation of agriculture, his family said. He also enjoyed sailing, hunting and a good game of cards.
He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Mary Johnson Addison. He was the brother of the late Joseph Addison Jr.
Surviving are his seven children, William B.C. Addison Jr. and Joseph Addison II, both of Upper Marlboro; Deborah W. Addison Holland of Columbia, S.C.; Suzanne D. Addison Sheahan of Queenstown; Walter D. Addison II and Charles H.J. Addison, both of Atlanta, Ga.; and Eleanor Bowie Addison Hickson of Charlestown, S.C.
Also surviving are one sister, Katherine Addison Johnson of Annapolis, and 14 grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at St. Barnabas' Episcopal Church in Upper Marlboro, followed by burial in Trinity Church Cemetery. Arrangements are by Gasch's Funeral Home in Hyattsville. Ida Boswell
Ida Mae Boswell, 68, of Odenton and previously of Gambrills, died of natural causes March 16, 2006 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Boswell was born in Cheverly on Oct. 30, 1937, and was a homemaker. She was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed gardening, raising plants and crafts.
Surviving are four sons, Richard, Ronald and Randolph Boswell, all of Odenton, and Raymond Boswell of Gambrills; her mother, Mae Boswell of Gambrills; three brothers, Roy Boswell Jr., of Odenton, Hilton Boswell of Edgewater and James Boswell of Gambrills; two sisters, Annie Poulin of Gambrills and Ernestine High of Corpus Christi, Texas; and four grandchildren.
She was the daughter of the late Roy Boswell and sister of the late Pat Marie Mayhew.
Visitation is 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road, Gambrills, where services are at 8:30 p.m. Burial will be at noon Tuesday in Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood. Participants can meet at the funeral home at 11 a.m. and progress to the cemetery.
Franklin Burris
Robert Franklin Burris, 79, formerly of Queenstown, died March 18, 2006 at his home in Chestertown.
Mr. Burris was born Nov. 14, 1926, in Chestertown, the son of the late Arthur H. and Helen Shinn Burris, and graduated from Sudlersville High School. During World War II, he farmed and served in the Maryland State Guard, advancing to the rank of sergeant. He later studied at the Graham Breeding School for Livestock and at Chesapeake College.
He managed King Marriott Farm in Kent County before moving to Historic "Cheston-on-Wye, " an 800-acre farm near Queentown, where he was farm manager from 1949 to 1964 when it was sold to Wye Institute. He then was resident superintendent of Wye Institute in charge of buildings and ground use.
Mr. Burris served on the Maryland State Fair Board, was executive secretary for the Maryland Agricultural Commission of the State Department of Agriculture and was administrator of general services for the department. He retired in 1991.
He was a member of Maryland and National Holstein associations and a director of the Maryland Artificial Breeders Co-op. A 4-H member in his youth, he became president of the 4-H Park Board of Queen Anne's County and was first chairman of the Queen Anne's County Fair.
Mr. Burris was an active Farm Bureau member for 25 years. A Lions Club member since 1964, he was president of the Queenstown Club, district governor covering 44 clubs on the Eastern Shore and on the Council of Governors of Multiple District 22. He received numerous awards, including being named Melvin Jones and Arnold Paz Fellows.
A longtime active member of Wye of Carmichael United Methodist Church, he was on many committees, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and was Sunday school superintendent. After moving to Chestertown, he sang in the First United Methodist Church choir. He was a member of the Gideons and Fellowship of Christian Farmers Association and volunteered at Chester River Hospital and the Farm Museum Project.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Edna Coleman Burris; two sons, Robert Franklin Burris Jr. of Columbus, Ohio, and Arthur H. Burris of Catonsville; one daughter, Carol Spath of Carney; one brother, William R. Burris of Elliott City; four sisters, Betty Burris of Chestertown, Mary Lou Jones and Lee Gears of Kings Town in Queen Anne's County and Sara Ostroske of Baltimore; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a niece.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 120 Speer Road, Chestertown. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Chestertown. Entombment will be in Church Hill Cemetery.
