Jeffrey Green
Graveside services for Jeffrey Byron Green, 51, of Sun Valley, Calif., were held Feb. 18, 2006 at Pierce Brothers Valhalla Memorial Park in Sun Valley.
Mr. Green, formerly of Arnold, died Feb. 3 at Pacifica Hospital of the Valley in Sun Valley after suffering a head injury in an accident on March 3, 2003.
Born in Bethesda on Feb. 9, 1954, he attended Severna Park High School. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Severna Park.
He enjoyed travel and was active in the Humane Society and environmental issues. During an El Nino, he was credited with rescuing more than 100 animals.
Surviving are his parents, Mary Ann and Benny Green of Arnold; four sisters, Cheryl Ann Green of Arnold, Kelly Allen of Denton, Claudia Newman of Pasadena and Paula Mollica of Stevensville; two nephews; and four nieces.

Douglas Hantske
Douglas William "Doug" Hantske Sr., 84, an Edgewater resident for more than 50 years, died of natural causes March 13, 2006 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Born Sept. 28, 1921, in Annapolis, Mr. Hantske graduated from Annapolis High School and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
He worked as a salesman with Larry Leonard Sporting Goods and Phipps Buick of Annapolis. He also was a waterways project manager with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources until retiring in the late 1980s.
He was a founding member of the Annapolis Athletic Association and a member of the Annapolis Elks and Annapolis Yacht Club.
Mr. Hantske loved golf, sailing and eating crabs and was an avid University of Maryland sports fan.
In 1951 he married
Barbara Dudrow Hantske of Annapolis from whom he was divorced in 1984.
Surviving are four children, Mark B. Hantske of Galesville, Douglas W. Hantske Jr. and Robin Hantske Ward, both of Edgewater, and Patrick M. Hantske of Shady Side; one sister, Helen Freed of Annapolis; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, where the funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will follow at 1:45 p.m. in Maryland Veterans cemetery in Crownsville.
Sylvia Jenkins
Sylvia Lorraine Jenkins, 65, of Annapolis, died of lung cancer March 12, 2006 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Jenkins was born Sept. 4, 1940, in Annapolis and graduated in 1958 from the former Wiley H. Bates High School. She worked as a maintenance engineer.
Mrs. Jenkins was a member of Mount Olive A.M.E. Church where she sang in the Mass Choir.
She was married
on April 4, 1964, to George Jenkins Jr.
Also surviving are one son, Orlando Makell of Annapolis; two daughters, Yulonda Johnson and Alicia Jenkins, both of Annapolis; two brothers, James and Gerald Turner, of Annapolis; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday with a Christian wake at 10:30 a.m. and funeral at 11 am. at Mount Olive A.M.E. Church, 2 Hicks Ave. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Bestgate Memorial Gardens on Bestgate Road. Arrangements are by Reese and Sons Mortuary.
Altha Johnson
Atha Lavinia Johnson, 68, of Annapolis, died of respiratory failure March 9, 2006 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Ms. Johnson was born Jan. 4, 1938, in Annapolis and graduated from the former Stanton Elementary and Wiley H. Bates High schools as well as Crownsville State Hospital Nursing School.
She was an operating room technician at Anne Arundel General Hospital from 1957 to 1967 and a nurse's aide at Crownsville Hospital Center from 1967 to 1971 when she then worked as a licensed practical nurse until 1984 when she retired.
She enjoyed gospel music, cooking, family gatherings, bingo, playing cards and caring for her great-nieces, great-nephews and neighborhood children.
Surviving are two daughters, Bridgette Evette Johnson of Long Beach, Calif., and Brenda Yvette Johnson of Annapolis; three brothers, Phillip Johnson Jr. of Newark, N.J., and Jack and James Johnson of Annapolis; and three sisters, Betty Pringle of Baltimore and Louise Johnson and Joann Parker of Annapolis.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. tomorrow with a Christian wake at 10:30 a.m. and funeral at 11 a.m. at Second Baptist Church, 1808 Poplar Ave. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Bestgate Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Reese and Sons Mortuary.
Gordon Mayers
Gordon Dietrich Mayers, 86, of Annapolis and previously of Severna Park, died of congestive heart failure March 14, 2006 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Mr. Mayers was born Dec. 20, 1919, in Baltimore, and served in the Navy during World War II on the USS Hornet, working in the ship's communication area.
He worked his way up from running a punch press to become the assistant manager at Gateway Erectors in Baltimore. He later managed the erection of scaffolding at construction sites for the pouring of concrete for Able Equipment Co.
He worked with a group at Severna Park High School that did benefit shows there and also spent many years taking care of his disabled wife.
A golfer, he was a member of the Heritage Harbour Country Club. He also was an avid boater for many years.
His wife, Irma Mayers, died Dec. 30, 2004.
Surviving are one son, Gordon Mayers Jr. of Annapolis; and two grandchildren. He was the son of the late Allen and Cora Mayers and the brother of the late Allen J. Mayers and Lydia Fonshill.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery in Brooklyn.

Anne Mayor
Anne Dean Tucker Mayor, 83, a 26-year resident of Chapel Hill, N.C., and formerly of Annapolis from 1970 to 1980, died of cancer Feb. 1, 2006 at Alamance Hospice Home in Burlington, N.C.
Born Sept. 7, 1922, in Winston-Salem, N.C., Mrs. Mayor graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a teacher. She served in the Navy WAVEs during World War II.
She was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Durham, N.C., and enjoyed cooking, tai chi and travel.
In June 1950 she married
John B. Mayor who died in April 1959.
Surviving are two sons, Randy Mayor of Birmingham, Ala., and Rick Mayor of Austin, Texas; one brother, Santford G. Tucker Jr. of Pensacola, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
She was the mother of the late Jeanne Mayor and sister of the late Jeanne Holland.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. March 24 at Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory in Burlington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
