Josephine Grove
Josephine Elizabeth "Josie" Grove of Edgewater, 86, died at Anne Arundel Medical Center on Feb. 22, 2001. She had pneumonia.
Mrs. Grove was born in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 21, 1914. She attended two years of college and was employed as a deputy clerk at the Department of Licenses and Inspections for the District of Columbia.
She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and a former member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Washington.
Mrs. Grove was active in the Holy Rosary Sodality and community social work in Edgewater. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and cooking and collected Hummel figurines.
In 1953 she married
Charles Howard Grove who died in 1998.
She was the last of eight siblings. Surviving are nephews and nieces.
A memorial Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 515 Loch Haven Road, Edgewater. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. in Maryland Veterans cemetery in Crownsville.
Donations, in lieu of flowers may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Fund, in care of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 515 Loch Haven Road, Edgewater, MD 21037. Arrangements are by Hardesty Funeral Home.
Albert Krueger
Albert Kunibert Krueger, 85, one of the original residents of Heritage Harbour, died Feb. 25, 2001 at the Fairfield Nursing Center in Crownsville. He had been ill with Parkinson's disease.
Born in Northfield, N.D., Mr. Krueger grew up in Minot, N.D., attended local schools and graduated from the Bemis Business College in the early 1930s.
He joined the Marine Corps in July 1940, serving in the Quartermaster Corps throughout the Pacific theater of operations. He was released from active duty in July 1946 but returned to the Marines for a tour of duty at the Recruit Depot at Parris Island, S.C., during the Korean War.
In 1955 he joined the U.S. Public Health Service with the former Department of Health, Education and Welfare, retiring after 20 years in June 1975.
He was an active member of the Maryland Federation of Chapters of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He and his wife, Mildred I. "Mickey" Krueger, served frequently as the banquet chairmen for the state NARFE conventions and also handled chapter newsletter distribution for eight years. They received the Maryland Federation's Award for Exemplary Service in 1997.
A member of Alcoholics Anonymous since 1967, Mr. Krueger was a longtime member of the board of directors and for 12 years was treasurer of Alcoholics Recovery Inc., a nonprofit that operates Hope House, a residential recovery facility in Crownsville. He received an executive citation from then-County Executive O. James Lighthizer for his efforts, which included holding AA meetings for county Detention Center inmates.
At Heritage Harbour, Mr. Krueger was a member of the community's first policy advisory committee and the Homeowner's Association and a founding member of the Heritage Harbour Health Group. He served for more than 20 years as president of the Hidden Cove Condominium Association and belonged to the bowling league.
At First Presbyterian Church, he sang in the choir for many years and was an elder. He was an avid Maryland sports fan, an enthusaistic Chesapeake Bay boater and fisherman. He and his wife traveled extensively in this country and abroad, often participating in Elderhostel learning vacations.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by a daughter, Martha K. Hunt of Copake, N.Y.; three grandchildren; one great-grand-daughter; and one sister, Margaret Geving of Minneapolis, Minn. He was the father of the late Marilyn Rich and the grandfather of the late Gregory Rich.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. tomorrow at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., where services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be private.

David LaCovey
David Alan LaCovey, 50, a resident of Annapolis for 27 years and formerly of Silver Spring, died Feb. 25, 2001 at his home. The cause of death is pending.
Born in Prince George's County on Nov. 28, 1950, Mr. LaCovey graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring. He worked in real estate for 15 years, most recently with ReMax.
He had travelled extensively in the islands of the Caribbean and enjoyed hunting, fishing, scuba diving and white water rafting.
In 1972 he was married
to Mona LaCovey Loncrier. The couple was divorced in 1998.
Surviving are one son, David C. LaCovey of Annapolis; two daughters, Wendy M. Esterling of Arnold and Amy K. Tanner of Annapolis; his parents, Robert and Daisy LaCovey of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two brothers, Kenneth LaCovey of Shady Side and Eugene LaCovey of Manassas, Va.; and one grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Ave. Burial will be private.

Winfield Lyons
Winfield Scott "Scottie" Lyons III, 62, of Newark, Ohio, and a resident of Anne Arundel County until 1980, died of heart failure Feb. 23, 2001 at his home.
Mr. Lyons was born May 10, 1938, in Annapolis, and was a 1956 graduate of Annapolis High School. He served in the Navy in the 1960s as a radioman aboard the USS Champlain.
He worked for the R.S. Leitch Fuel Oil Co. in Edgewater and the Southern Maryland Oil Co. in Annapolis. He also farmed.
Mr. Lyons was a former member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Edgewater and the Woodland Beach Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing and boating.
Surviving are one son, W. Scott Lyons IV of Gettysburg, Pa.; two daughters, Catherine Dodson of Gettysburg and Kelly Jones of Lothian; two brothers, Edward C. Lyons of Cordova and Ronald L. Lyons of Annapolis; one sister, Judy Jean Hagner of Owings; and three grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 10:45 a.m. March 8 at the Maryland Veterans cemetery Chapel, Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, with burial to follow., Arrangements are by Hardesty Funeral Home.

Edwin Bain Jr.
Retired Navy Cmdr. Edwin Curry "Ted" Bain Jr., 77, of Heritage Harbour and formerly of St. Margarets, died of cancer April 23, 2001 at his home after a long illness.
Cmdr. Bain was born Sept. 20, 1923, in Boston, Mass., and graduated from the Naval Academy in 1945. Most of his life he was a naval officer, serving at sea on surface ships and ashore at the Pentagon. During World War II he was on the USS Mahan when it was sunk. He also was commanding officer of the USS Belle Grove.
After retiring from the Navy, he was a senior vice president with Potomac Research, which eventually became Electronic Data Services. He retired from E.D.S. in 1982, and became a partner in Wheeler's Hardware in Deale.
Cmdr. Bain was a member of the Naval Academy Athletic Association, the Retired Officers Association and the American Philatelist Society.
An avid reader, he enjoyed collecting stamps and was interested in genealogy, golf and baseball, especially the Boston Red Sox.
On Sept. 7, 1951, he married
Rita M. Bain.
Also surviving are two sons, Edwin C. Bain III of Houston, Texas, and R. Bruce Bain of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one daughter, Beth A. Jones of Richmond, Va.; one brother, George R. Bain of Show Low, Ariz.; one sister, Joan Ann Bain of Coto De Caza, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at St. Andrew's Chapel at the Naval Academy. Inurnment will follow in the Naval Academy Columbarium.
