Charles Brimmer
Charles W. Brimmer, 86, of Rose Haven, who survived 3 years as a prisoner of the Japanese during World War II, died April 19, 2001 at the Parkmount Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fremont, Calif., of complications of a brain tumor.
Mr. Brimmer was born on Aug. 28, 1914, in Wilmington, N.C. He served in the Marine Corps for 20 years, from 1934 to 1954, retiring as a master gunnery sergeant. During World World II, he was captured by the Japanese after the fall of the Philippines and was a prisoner of war for 3 years until the end of the war.
After his retirement from the Marines, he attended Strayer Business College in Washington, D.C., obtaining an accounting degree. While in school, he also worked as an administrator for the Federal Housing Administration from 1954 to 1960. After earning his CPA certificate, he went to work for the Internal Revenue Service until retiring again in the mid-1970s.
He was a member of Grace Brethren Church of Calvert County. His interests were gardening, fishing, crabbing and boating on the Chesapeake Bay and woodworking. He built his cottage in Rose Haven.
He was married
on July 22, 1949, to Marguerite E. Brimmer, who died in 1996.
Surviving are a daughter, Shirley E. Allen of Fremont; one sister, Helen Henderson of Danville, Va.; one brother, Robert Brimmer of Camden, S.C.; and three grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Rausch Funeral Home, 8325 Mount Harmony Lane, Owings, where services will be at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery in Suitland.

Jean Chilcoat
Jean B. Chilcoat, 77, of Tracys Landing, died April 23, 2001 at the Spa Creek Center, Genesis ElderCare Network, where she had resided for several months. The cause of death was not available.
Mrs. Chilcoat was born on July 14, 1923, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Her family moved to Manitowac, Wis., where she was raised and attended school. She moved in 1941 to Washington, D.C., where she met and married
Stanford L. "Stan" Chilcoat in 1943.
They lived in Washington and Prince George's County and moved to southern Anne Arundel County in the early 1980s. Their homes were in Churchton, Rose Haven and most recently Tracys Landing.
Mrs. Chilcoat was a clerk and secretary at an automotive garage in Seabrook for 28 years, retiring in the mid-1990s. She also worked for her son and her husband in their sign and printing businesses, S.R.J. and later Bayside Signs in Deale.
She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, doing crossword puzzles and working with computers.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Debonne L. Reynolds of Chestertown and L. Ann Wilson of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sons, J. Toby Chilcoat of West River and Richard A. "Rick" Chilcoat of Hyattsville; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Howard Place of Gettysburg, Pa., and Roald Place of Irving, Texas. She was the sister of the late Kenny Place.
Friends may call from 7 to 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Rausch Funeral Home, 8325 Mount Harmony Lane, Owings, where a memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be private.
Doris Klemm
Doris Lee Bradyhouse Klemm, 70, a resident of Annapolis for 21 years, died of cancer April 24, 2001 at her home after a long illness.
Born in Baltimore on Jan. 24, 1931, Mrs. Klemm was raised in Annapolis and previously lived in Cape St. Claire. She was married
in 1962 to Charles W. Klemm, who is now deceased, and was a homemaker.
Surviving are one son, Charles W. Klemm Jr. of Brooklyn; two daughters, Linda L. Burrows and Donna L. Klemm of Annapolis; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, where services will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow. Interment will be in Hillcrest Mausoleum.
Velma Koolage
Velma Silver Koolage, 81, of Annapolis, died April 23, 2001 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mrs. Koolage was born on May 20, 1919, in Medina, N.Y., and studied at the Highland Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester, N.Y., in 1937.
In 1940 she married
David Silver, an Army officer. During his career, they traveled extensively in the Far East and Europe. Lt. Col. Silver retired in 1965 and died in 1972.
After she married
George Koolage, a native of Annapolis, the couple lived here. Mr. Koolage died in 1978.
Mrs. Koolage owned and operated the Plant People's Store in Eastport for 15 years. For the last several years, she cared for the elderly and infirm.
Surviving are two sons, Darwin Silver of Annapolis and David Silver of Annandale, Va., and five grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Gary Richard Silver.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Hillcrest Cemetery, 1911 Forest Drive, followed by inurnment. Arrangements are by Hardesty Funeral Home.

Elizabeth Kurtz
A memorial service for Elizabeth R. Bergmann Kurtz, 75, of Severna Park, was held April 21, 2001 at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.
Mrs. Kurtz died of natural causes Jan. 27, 2001 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 2, 1925, and raised in the Ukraine, then a part of the former Soviet Union. She received a degree in fashion design. She retired in the 1970s after working as personnel manager for the Army and Air Force Exchange System at Fort George G. Meade.
Her interests were the ballet, opera and the symphony.
The widow of Sidney I. Kurtz, she is survived by her son, George Kurtz of Annandale, Va., and a granddaughter.
Burial was private.Jeanette O'MearaJeanette O'Meara, 81, a resident of Edgewater for 37 years, died April 24 at her home. The cause of death was not available.
Mrs. O'Meara was born Nov. 28, 1919, in Washington, D.C., and was a homemaker. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Edgewater for many years and of the Loch Haven Garden Club.
Her interests were gardening and her grandchildren.
She was married
in 1947 to James F. O'Meara, who died Aug. 11, 1999.
Surviving are two children, James F. O'Meara Jr. of Chester and Mary Kathleen Hart of Crofton, and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A memorial Mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Burial will be private.

William Benzer
William Clinton "Bill" Benzer, 81, of Crofton, died June 6, 2001 at Spa Creek Center, Genesis ElderCare in Annapolis.
Born in New Kensington, Pa., Mr. Benzer was a 1941 graduate of the former Carnegie Institute of Technology now Carnegie Mellon University, with a degree in metallurgical engineering.
He worked for more than 20 years with the Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation and later with the American Iron and Steel Institute in New York City and then in Washington, D.C.
He served as a captain in the Army during World War II seeing duty in North Africa and Europe.
He sang for 20 years with the Annapolis Chorale and volunteered with Meals on Wheels of Annapolis. He was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church of Annapolis and the Masonic order.
His hobbies were sailing, music, tennis, skiing and playing the piano.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Patricia Benzer; two sons, Karl William Benzer of Edmond, Okla., and Alan Walter Benzer of Prince Frederick; one daughter, Susan Benzer Myers of Boise, Idaho; one sister, Margaret B. Woolrich of Jonesville, Va.; and five grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Martin's Church, 1120 Spa Road. Burial is private. Arrangements are by the Evans Funeral Home in Bowie.
